Making it better

Summary:

Connor has a bad day

Work Text:

Schedules were something that Connor relied on. If the schedule got messed up, he got messed up. If there were fun special occasions that threw it off, that was more okay. It was nice, surprises were nice when they were good. But bad things made his stress levels go dangerously high; and that wasn't favorable.

Today, was not a nice day. It had started with Connor spilling Hank's coffee. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if it didn't burn him. But it did. It had hurt, and Hank had to help, which made Connor feel bad. He liked making coffee for him and giving it to him while he was relaxed. He liked it when Hank got to be relaxed. But he caused the opposite. And that was just the start.

The next thing that happened was with Reed. The detective had been extra rude that day, going as far to hit him. It had been a simple punch, right across the cheek. But it still hurt. And it had given him a bloody nose. Which was thoroughly irritating. Gavin was irritating. Of course Hank had punched him after, and the detective got reprimanded, it was still bothersome. An added burden was that some of the thirium got on his shirt.

The cherry on top, was that Connor slipped trying to get to the car. A patch of ice was under some snow snuck up on him and he fell to the ground, landing right on his wrist. Again, more pain. I guess it was a day for pain. But it didn't make it any better. Especially since he could see Gavin snickering through the window. And of course Hank had to help him up. It was slightly embarrassing to say the least.

So there he was, in the car. It was almost silent, besides for the noises of the road and the Knights of The Black Death playing over the speakers. Which left Connor to his thoughts. Was Hank annoyed with him? He had made such a fuss. He burned himself, which made Hank help him. Gavin punched him, which made Hank help him. And slipped, which made Hank help him. The Liutenant had to hate him by now. Connor had to be just a pebble in his shoe. An annoyance, a burden on his back.

"Connor?"

"Huh?" Connor snapped out of his thoughts.

"You're cryin', what's wrong?" Crying? He was crying? He wiped his eyes, and sure enough, there was a stream of water.

"Yeah, yeah I-I'm fine." He mumbled, fiddling with the coin he carried in his pocket. It helped, so it was nice having it there.

"Bullshit. Talk to me kid." Connor sighed.

"I-I just, I'm sorry for today."

"Huh? Whattya sorry for?" Hank questioned.

"I proved myself to be, difficult to handle today. I-I apologize for the trouble I caused."

"Kid, you didn't do anything wrong."

"B-But, you had to help me all day."

"Bud, I don't mind helping ya out." Hank sighed. "I'm really not mad, I mean; Reed needed to be punched anyway."

"Y-you're- you're not mad?"

"No, not at all."

"O-Oh."

"Mhm. How about this, we go home, and just relax?" He suggested.

"That, that sounds nice." Connor nodded.

Hank had decided to go all out. Not all bad days have to end bad right? So that was his goal. Cheer Connor up.  So of course, he gathered a plethora of different old Disney movies. Tangled, Mulan, The Lion King. Every Disney classic he could think of. Next, he made hot chocolate. He could tell Connor had a liking towards it. Especially if it had marshmallows. Finally, he set up the couch with blankets and pillows. There had to be at least three of each. And of course Sumo had to be there.

They both sat down on the couch, calling the Saint Bernard over. He sat down over them with a plop, and reached over to pet him.

"Good boy." He cooed.

"Alright, what movie do you wanna watch first?" Hank questioned, taking a sip of the coffee he made himself.

"Hm, Tangled looks interesting." Connor noted, looking through the selection.

"Wanna watch that?"

"Sure, the horse and chameleon look cute. And I like the style."

"Okay, now we start." Hank said, before playing the movie on the TV. It started with the regular opening, which made Connor tilt his head.

"Wouldn't they have more protection for their newborn baby?" He questioned, not taking his eyes off the screen.

"I guess they weren't very smart rulers then." Hank shrugged.

The more the movie went on, the more questions Connor had. Like why Flynn would be dumb enough to talk to the guards.

"Why would he talk to the guard? If he didn't he would've avoided all the other conflict, correct?" Connor had questioned, seeming irritated with the screen.

"Flynn is a smart ass, that's why."

"Oh, so Flynn Rider has something in common with you?"

"Shut the fuck up, Connor."

Or how Rapunzel got Pascel.

"They look like they are in Europe, how did she get a chameleon?"

"Who knows Con."

"I would like to."

Well, the questions stopped near the end of the movie. Flynn had almost died just to make sure Rapunzel was safe. To make sure she was never under Mother Gothel's manipulation again. Then when Flynn came back to life, and helped get Rapunzel to her parents, despite knowing that he could get killed. It was beautiful.

"Are you crying?"

"Be quiet, Liutenant." Connor mumbled, wiping his eyes. Hank laughed and squeezed his shoulder.

After a few more movies, Connor was exhausted. Deviants tended to need rest mode more than actual androids. While regular androids just used rest mode to heal injuries, deviants used it because of tiredness. They were more tired because of emotions. And it had been a day of many many emotions.

"Okay, one last thing before we hit the hay." Hank said, standing up and heading towards the closet.

"Hm? There's more?"

"Yup." He said, popping the p. He took out a small box from the closet, and set it in front of Connor.

"A box?"

"What's inside the box dumbass." Connor poked at the box, before opening it. His eyes immediately lighting up.

"It's a fish!" He smiled, picking up the small stuffed animal. It was a simple plush of a clownfish. But Connor was ecstatic

"Like it?"

"Like it? Liutenant I more then like it! It's adorable, and the pattern is exact! Where did you find this??"

"Online, enjoy it." Hank smiled.

"I will!" Connor exclaimed. Hank ruffled his hair.

"Alright, well you do that, I'm gonna sleep. Night kid."

"Goodnight Liutenant!" He said, before pausing. "Liutenant?"

"Yeah kid?"

"Uh, thank you for this. It, it really helped."

"Of course. You deserved a good day anyway."
