“Do you think Eddie likes me?” Buck asks in lieu of greeting.
Bobby looks up from his paperwork to arch an eyebrow at the man as he paces the office.
“Sure. You and Eddie are best friends. Of course he likes you.” The older man says slowly.
“Yeah I know that. But do you think he likes me likes me?” Buck stresses.
Bobby’s other eyebrow joins the first.
“Are you asking me if Eddie has a crush on you?’ Bobby pinches the bridge of his nose and closes his eyes for a split second with a deep sigh when Buck nods. ‘What are we, first graders? How the hell am I supposed to know? Ask Eddie!”
“What?’ Buck gasps, scandalised. ‘And risk getting rejected face to face? No way!”
Bobby sighs again. He’s going grey because of this kid.
“Look, just talk to him. You might be surprised.” He urges gently.
“Aha! So you do know!” Buck accuses.
“Buck, no.’ Bobby groans. ‘You need to just pluck up the courage and speak to him about your feelings. And soon. Because I’m getting tired of you moping around my firehouse.”
“I am not moping.” Buck protests.
“Yes, you are.” Bobby counters.
“Am not!” Buck pouts.
“Do not make me full name you.” Bobby warns.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Buck gasps.
“Evan-“
“Okay! I’m going! Jeez.” Buck all but runs from the room, slamming into Hen on his way through, sending them both crashing to the ground.
Bobby - like Chimney and Eddie - leaps to his feet and rushes over to the tangle of limbs on the floor. By the looks of things, Buck had managed to twist them and use his own body to cushion Hen’s landing, with her elbows finding purchase in his ribs.
“Damn it Buck! Watch where you’re going.” Hen groans.
“I’m sorry! You startled me!” Buck whines back.
Chimney helps Hen get to her feet and frowns down at him. “You good?”
“No, I don’t think I am, now you mention it. I’m pretty sure I cracked a rib or something.” Buck wheezes.
“Shit Buck. I’m so sorry.” Hen furrows her brow.
“Nah, it’s my fault. Wasn’t looking where I was going.” He gasps as he sits up.
Chimney rushes down the stairs while Eddie darts forward to lend Buck a hand, and Buck grins at him. He helps get Buck sat up against the glass wall of Bobby’s office.
Chimney returns with their kit and performs a standard check on Buck. He pulls back with a sigh.
“No cracked ribs, but they’re probably a little bruised.” He reports.
“You need to sit today out?” Bobby asks, concerned.
“Nah, I’m alright Cap. Was just a little winded but I’m all good now.” Buck grins as he gets himself to his feet without any help.
“If you’re sure...”
“I’m positive. I’ll take it super easy and I’ll tell you if it changes, alright?”
“Alright. And think about what I said.” Bobby wags a finger at his youngest firefighter before heading back to his office.
“What’s he talking about?” Hen asks.
“Taking the leap of faith.” Buck states.
The three medics look at him with curious faces.
“And what leap of faith are we talking about, exactly?” Eddie asks.
“This one.” Buck breathes, before tugging on the mans uniform to slam their lips together in a heated kiss.
Eddie makes a startled noise against his lips, before relaxing and kissing back eagerly.
“Finally.” Hen, Chimney and a distant Bobby sigh.
