Work Text:
There’s movement behind him and the bed dips low, a smile spreading across Sokka’s features as the covers rustle. It’s a cool summer night out, the heat of the fire nation temporarily gone as night falls over the Caldera. It’s comfortable, where the heat doesn’t quite make Sokka sweat as much as he usually does. The fan that Sokka invented is functioning and helps to circulate the air around their large bedchamber.
He twists his body, rolling over to face the beautiful man who has rejoined him once more in their bed. His back cracks and he can’t help but let out a soft groan. Their hands find each other in the dark, Zuko’s free hand comes out as he cups Sokka’s face, the younger man all but melting into the touch as his eyes flutter close. Soft lips against his as he falls back asleep.
He fights to stay awake, to force his eyelids to remain open, only so that he can continue to stare at his beautiful boyfriend. Zuko chuckles, almost as if he knows exactly what’s going through Sokka’s mind. He knows his boyfriend, knows every tell in his face and every scar on his body. He knows the calluses of worn hands and how his hair falls against him when he lets it down after a long day of delegation meetings.
He knows the expanse of his skin and every freckle along his body. Knows the taste of his lips and the way his hands press against him. And Zuko smiles, leaning in once more to kiss Sokka, his body shuffling over more as he encompasses Sokka’s entire being with his own.
Sokka lets out a laugh and Zuko can’t help but fall in love with him all over again. It’s soft and so is Zuko. Their lips parted and Zuko was smiling too, “Go to sleep, Sokka.” He commands, lying down so that his head rests on Sokka’s chest. His hand coming up and playing with the long strands of inky hair.
“Was that an order?” Sokka asked, and Zuko doesn’t need to look up at him to know he’s smirking and has an eyebrow raised in response. He knows his boyfriend.
“No, but I can make it an order if you don’t.” Zuko replies, breathing deeply as warmth radiates from his body.
Sokka is warm and tired. And the extra heat Zuko puts out is enough to lull a polar bear dog into hibernation. “Mmm.” Sokka says, stifling a yawn as he settles more into the plush of the bed below him. “Cheater.” He quips, the last of his strength going to the words as sleep claims him.
“I know.” Zuko replies before falling victim as well.
