Somehow, despite having spent 147 nights together in the same space before they got together (not counting time on the jet, even when the red-eye flight meant departing around midnight and arriving in Virginia as the sun rose), there were still things they hadn't realized about each other's usual sleep routines. Spencer's nightmares were obvious: thrashing and clawing and screaming that he won't choose. Dereks's...it took awhile for Spencer to even realize Derek had them, because the man who gave comfort to everyone else and took none for himself even tried to panic quietly.

In every room Derek Morgan has ever entered, he was instantly the sun. The center of the universe with everything else orbiting around him.
Garcia has seen it more times than she could count. The man enters a bar and every woman's head turns to follow him. She gets it - hers does too, because hello. Watch him move for 0.2 seconds and try to look away. She lost that fight years ago and has stopped trying. He has this gravitational pull that brings people in. It's more than the grin and the abs and the gorgeous skin and the easy confidence, it's just a thing.
The moon without the sun is just a cold rock really far away. But with the sun reflecting off of it, it's a romantic picnic under the night sky. It's the months of the year. It's light in the darkness.

After 3 years together, 5 years as friends before that, and 18 months as coworkers before that, Derek had gotten pretty good at understanding the pattern of Spencer's nervous conversations: Start with a subject that seems to come out of nowhere, then a series of statistics and hypotheticals that slowly spiraled closer to the thing he actually wants to talk about. But when tonight's conversation spiral began with "hyphenated names are a bureaucratic nightmare," Derek wasn't sure he could predict where the hell his boyfriend was going with this.
