Chapter Text
Kara POV
It's coming up to the end of August which means if I was to get a hogwarts letter, I would have gotten one by now. Ever since I came to this planet, I've learned of magic or witchcraft and wizardry as it's more commonly known.
My cousin lived with a muggle family when he got his letter, the headmistress had given it to him by hand and explained how she knew of his powers, she had also told him of the wizarding world and of his potential as a wizard.
He accepted the offer to go to ogwarts because the headmistress had said one of the teachers could not only help him do magic, but also learn how to control his powers.
When he went to Hogwarts he found a home. He found his girlfriend Lois, and also found Eliza Danvers, a professor there, who helped him with his powers.
When Kal left Hogwarts he became a reporter for the Daily Prophet and Superman. As Superman he helps the magic and no-magical people.
When I landed on Earth a year ago he left me with the Danvers to do the same. They had a daughter, Alex, who is now my adopted sister, she is a year older than me and goes to Hogwarts. Eliza is still a teacher at Hogwarts and Jeremiah is an Auror.
During the past year, whilst Eliza and Alex were at Hogwarts and Jeremiah was out working as an Auror, I spent time with Clark and Lois in metropolis, I taught him about krypton and told him about our family, whilst he showed me the fortress and the pod he landed in. I made him a few Kryptonian recipes that I remember from my mother and shared them him and Lois.
But during the holidays, I went back to Midvale with Alex and Eliza and sometimes Jeremiah. It's been one of the best years considering my past. Everyone has been very welcoming.
The only thing I'm worried about is if I don't get selected for Hogwarts. Everyone I know has been. I know I'm adopted but even my alien cousin has been. If I don't go, this will make me even more of an outcast. If I don't get in I'll have to go to highschool and that would not only be a waste of time but also it would be an awful experience overall. I was about to be elected into the science guild on Krypton, one of the youngest members since, well, ever! And they expect me to go to highschool, where I don't even know anyone. But that's only if i dont get my Hogwarts letter, which i haven't yet. Alex confided in me the other day that everybody usually gets theirs by now and Eliza keeps giving me looks of pity and understanding. My thoughts are interrupted by a knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" I shouted to the rest of the house. Eliza was in the kitchen and Alex was upstairs.
I'm hoping to see the postman with a letter but when I open the door I saw a middle aged woman with short blonde hair and what looks like a very expensive blouse with a pencil skirt and high heels.
My smile instantly drops off my face when I realise it's not an owl or postman.
"Don't look too happy to see me dear." This woman said with a knowing smile. She looked at me as if she knew me, but that annoyed me because I don't recogise her. I heard Alex come running down the stairs behind me and and almost stumble on the bottom step when she sees who is at the door, but catches herself at the last second and recomposes hersel
"Professor! What are you doing here?" At the sound of 'Professor', Eliza comes racing to the door.
"Professor! Hello. To what do we owe this pleasure." Eliza said with the same surprised tone as Alex. From what they've just said I'm assuming this woman is a professor at Hogwarts. I'm also wondering what she's doing here.
"I have come to have a chat, that will be done better done inside." With an air of authority that would be enough to make any of the strongest will bend their knee. Eliza welcomed her in, led her to the sofa and went to get drinks.
"I will go upstairs, to get out of your way." I say a bit disappointed. I excused myself because whatever it was, it was definitely to do with Hogwarts and as interested as I am, the visit from this professor must be important if she has come all this way instead of using an owl.
I stepped aside to let Eliza in with everybody's drinks, as she set them on the table and started to make my way to the door.
"Actually miss Zor-El. This chat includes you."
I was half-way to the door when I stopped. She just called me my Kryptonian name. The name that only Alex, Eliza, Kal and Lois know. I whip my head around to face the woman. Suprise was clear on all of our faces, well everyone except for this woman, who was sat there with that same knowing smile. I don't like that smile. it's like she knows something that i don't, which she clearly does, that doesn't make me hate that look any less.
"How do you know that? And also who are you? I'm aware that Eliza and Alex know but I don't." I say now slightly enraged by the lack pf infrmation.
"My name is Cat Grant. I am the Headmistress of witchcraft and wizardry and I'm here to give you this." She pull a letter out of her pocket that has squiggly green writing on it saying 'Kara Danvers' I eagerly opened the letter and by Rao it was my acceptance letter for Hogwarts.
I read it thoroughly to make sure it wasn't a prank a looked up from it to get conformation that this was real and the professor nodded.
I saw the moment o f realization that dawned on Eliza's face as she sat beside the headmistress, realisation of what, I did not know.
"Why did you hand deliver it though and also could you please explain how you know who I am." I asked still confused and hesitant to believe any of this.
"Right well, I was also the one to speak to your cousin about Hogwarts and introduced him to Professor Danvers who helped explain his powers as she has done with you.
I knew about his super abilities because I had been studying the stars for a while when I came across krypton, I watched the meteor shower it caused when it..died. I studied what would happen if anyone from there should appear here and found out that due to the sun it could supercharge your cells. I have a few people like you at our school already, although you wouldn't notice it.
When your cousin landed I made sure to give him a home, that is when I gave him to a very kind muggle friend of mine so that he could live somewhat of a normal life.
I didn't know he would also be able to do magic. So when he was old enough I told him what I had done and told him I could introduce him to a few people that were also different and Eliza who could help him. Which we did and well now he goes flying about in a red cape." Once she was finished explaining, I pulled her into death hug. It's only when I heard I few cracks and pops I pulled away.
"Sorry" I mumbled whilst wiping my cheeks. As I stood from the hug, she took my hand a wiped a tear that was rolling down my cheek with her thumb.
"Don't worry about it dear. What was that hug for anyway?"
I took a deep sigh. "You did what I was meant to in a better way than I would have." I say going to sit back down.
I absentmindedly started playing with my mother's necklace. Professor Grant gives me a confused look so I carry on.
"I'm guessing he hasn't told you about how I got here?"
She shook her head. "He hasn't told me. He said it wasn't his story to tell."
I gave a light hearted chuckle. "He's honourable. He gets that from his father." I smiled as I thought about my family. "Well I guess it's only fair you know considering what you have done for my family." The headmistress smiled for me to continue. I sighed again.
"When I was sent to earth, Clark was still a baby. I was ten. He doesn't remember krypton or his family, but I do.
Our family was one of the most important on the planet. My father was head of the science guild, my mother the head of the high council, my aunt was the head general of the kryptonian army and Clark's parents were also members of the council.
Me and my cousin were the only children in our family, that's why they sent us, to protect the last children of our house. There were only two pods available when krypton's destruction was approaching.
They sent Clark first and then my mother sent me to protect him. To teach him Krypton's ways and teach him about his family. Unfortunately, the planets explosion sent a shock wave at my pod and knocked it of course and into the phantom zone, a place where time stops.
I was stuck there, from what Clark told me for 24 years. When I landed here a year ago he placed me with the Danvers, who have helped me, just like they helped them and for that I also owe them a thank you." I explained, aiming the mat part at Eliza.
"You don't need to thank us for anything Kara. We are more than happy to help you and take you as one of our own." We both smiled at each other.
"So that explains why your so young, physically anyway. And through all of that you still have a smile on your face. That's one of the things I admire about your cousin, no matter what happened or what villain he faced, he always came out with a smile. A trait that you also share. A very admirable one as well." Miss Grant said with tears in her eyes.
"Hope. The only thing you can rely on. It's the only thing that kept me going all those years in that pod. It's what my mother taught me. Don't be prejudiced and hope for the best. There's always a light to turn on in the darkest of times, you've just got to find it." I said with a smile.
"I wish everyone had your morals. The world would be a perfect if it did." Cat said in awe. "Right onto Hogwarts. Obviously Eliza will be there as defense against the dark arts teacher, you will have to call her professor during the day, Alex will also be there as a third year.
You will need to get your stuff at diagonal alley and all of this I'm sure the girls will tell you, but I'm here to tell you, you will have to be a Danvers at Hogwarts.
If one day you chose to be like your cousin then so be it but for now you have to hide your identity. You can speak freely around me. I will always be here if you want to talk, just like I did for your cousin. All the rest these two lovely ladies will explain." Miss grant finished whilst getting up and going to the door. "I have a feeling you will do great in this world Kara Zor-El. Your parents would be proud."
The woman thanked Eliza for welcoming her in and left. I sat on the couch with the letter in my hand and Alex giving me a one armed hug around the shoulders.
"I'm going to Hogwarts." I said barley above a whisper.
"Yes you are." Alex said in a tone that I haven't heard from her before. it felt uplifting and positive. It was the kind of tone my father would use when I figured out a maths problem by myself, or my mother used when I did well at school or the one my aunt used when I told her about a species I had been recently researching. It had been years since anyone had used that tone and I had felt warm on the inside. Alex was proud of me.
