Chapter Text

She was probably going to die. And, apparently, she had already almost died five times that day. She was going to die with a bunch of people she couldn't remember and she didn't even know what her favorite ice cream flavor was. As she sat there waiting for Nick, Bess, and George to return with holy water and water guns, Nancy felt the panic bubbling up inside her.

"Are you okay?" Ace asked her from across the room. "You look kind of green."

Nancy gave him a wane smile. "I've been better. At least I think I've been better."

Ace laughed softly and sidled over to sit down across from her. "I'm sure you have."

Her breath hitched. He was cute. Suddenly Nancy wanted to run her fingers through his long hair.

He gave her a crooked smile. "You're staring."

There was something very freeing about amnesia. She knew nothing about how she and Ace interacted in their daily lives. Maybe she was ogling her best friend. Maybe she should feel embarrassed. But, since she didn't know, she didn't care. "It's because you're cute."

"Yeah?" Ace smiled at this admission. "So are you."

Nancy giggled. "Would you mind if I touched your hair?"

Ace's smile grew into a grin and he leaned forward. "Go ahead."

Nancy reached up and raked both hands through his hair. "It's so soft," she breathed.

"I must condition," he joked.

His face was unbelievably close to hers now. She stared at Ace's mouth. If she leaned forward just two inches, their lips would touch. Nancy felt her face color at this thought. Ace cleared his throat. Nancy looked up from his lips to see that he was blushing too.

"Would you mind if I kissed you?" Ace rasped out.

"Please." Nancy breathed.

And then his lips were on hers. Nancy found herself standing up in the booth to deepen the kiss. Her hands dropped from his hair to the sides of his face. She sighed as Ace's tongue parted her lips. After a few more hungry kisses, Ace came up for air and gasped out. "Hold on a sec."

He slid out of his side of the booth to join Nancy on her side. He cupped her face in his hands and smiled. "Much better."

Right as he was about to kiss her again, it was Nancy's turn to stop him. "I've got an even better idea," she murmured in his ear and hopped into Ace's lap, legs straddling him.

"I'm definitely a fan of this," he laughed.

"I thought you'd be," Nancy said impishly before she kissed him again.

Somehow these kisses were even hungrier. Ace and Nancy seemed to be pouring all of their fear and anxiety and confusion into every kiss, every touch. This was one thing that they both could understand. Soon shirts were discarded and they were exploring each other with their hands.

After a few minutes of breathless caresses, Nancy paused. "Do you want to -- ?" She started to ask.

Ace nodded eagerly, already moving to unbutton his pants.

And so, as they waited for holy water, water guns, and memories, Ace and Nancy lost themselves in each other in a booth at the back of The Claw.

A month later, Nancy sat on that same restaurant's toilet staring at a positive pregnancy test in bemusement. "Well, damn."
