The first thing Amity noticed about the human realm was the sky. Clear, blue, deep sunny sky, with some white puffy clouds crossing it every once in a while, it seemed like something straight out of an illusion spell
“Are you done looking up, Amity Blight?” a voice at her side asked
“No…” the young witch murmured
“Take your time” the human said, frantically moving left and right
So Amity did exactly that, her eyes noticing the multitude of colors surrounding her, her nose invaded by those new, strange fragrances, her ears filled with the chirps of the birds and the cars (Luz explained what those things were but she hadn’t seen one so far) rolling in the distance
Her girlfriend clapped calling her attention and Amity finally looked down, staring at the smiling human sitting on a tablecloth and patting her right
“Come here” she invited, giving her the warmest smile Amity ever saw
“But…” the young witch said, pointing behind her to the abandoned house “Luz, we just got here”
“I know and I’m glad I’m back, but I can’t wait for another second”
“I thought you said you wanted to show me around” Amity whispered, kneeling in front of her girlfriend
Luz squeezed her cheeks and replied
“You’ve been looking around for enough time now, now I want you to look only at me”
Amity went full tomato mode at that, silently cursing the moment when the human became so smooth
“F-f-fine” she stuttered “I’m looking at you, what now?”
“Now this” Luz said, wrapping her arms around her waist and falling back, dragging her all the way down with her “You and me, here, for as long as I want”
“What if I want to return to the demon realm?” Amity asked playfully
“I said for as long as I want” Luz said jokingly, tightening the embrace “You’re stuck here”
“Good…” Amity whispered, putting her head on Luz’s shoulders and tickling her neck with her hair “I love being here”
It was Luz’s turn to blush profusely and Amity praised herself for her small victory, until Luz decided to kiss her forehead for an embarrassingly long time. She couldn’t contain herself and started to laugh, knowing how much Luz enjoyed hearing her being happy
“I’m not letting you go” the human said between kisses
Amity closed her eyes and didn’t said another thing, she just melted into the contact, thanking the Titan for putting this strange, remarkable, loving human on her path
Luz once told her seeing her smiling made her feel like a million fireworks in her heart, when Amity wondered what that was, Luz went on an unnecessary complicated explanation about things that looked like a multitude of light glyphs exploding in the night
That was how she was feeling right now, so she tried to come up with the exact words to express herself, when Luz took just a second to breath between kisses, Amity got up and cupped her cheeks, saying in the softest possible voice
“I love you, Luz Noceda”
A spark appeared in the human’s eyes, a spark that was only for Amity and for no one else, but the spark lasted far too long and a second after, Luz started to cry. The young witch tried to wipe her tears away, wondering what the hell she did wrong, how the human was about to break up with her and how Camila would beat the shit out of her for making her daughter cry
“It’s okay” Luz said, seeing her girlfriend’s panicked expression “These are good tears, Amity, I’m just so incredibly happy that you told me that”
“It’s not the first time I told you that” Amity argued, not really liking the concept of ‘good tears’
Years of crying alone at her loneliness, her frustrations, the unfairness of her parents and her way of living for herself and for nobody else had thought her crying was always a bad thing and no matter how happy Luz said she was, the sight of tears under her eyes was something that the young witch couldn’t bear
“It’s the first time you told me that in my world” Luz insisted, caressing her hands and making her blush again “And no matter how many times you say it, I’ll never get used to hear those words”
“It’s just the truth, Luz”
“That doesn’t make it less amazing, Amity” the human quickly countered “It makes me so happy that you love me like I am; a goofball, a nerd, a human, powerless witch”
“Anything but powerless” the other girl cut her off “You are so powerful that once I fell for you, I could never get back to the way I was, I could never leave you behind”
Luz‘s body shivered at those words and Amity stayed there, looking at her girlfriend intensely until she raised an eyebrow
“Are you waiting for something or…?” she questioned
Amity pushed her away, frowning
“I just opened my heart for you”
“Yes… And?” Luz teased
The lilac haired girl frowned for a second and Luz smiled at the way her nose curved upwards
“Say those words back, you dummy”
“Oh, but you don’t really need that” Luz replied and Amity huffed “After all, I’ve told you those words countless times already”
Almost a year of being Luz Noceda’s girlfriend gave Amity the advantage to know all of her soft points and weaknesses, so she grabbed her girlfriend by the wrists and turned around, sitting on top of her and pointing a finger at her with her most angry face (which only caused Luz to giggle)
“Say it back” she ordered
“Wouldn’t you prefer me to say it in front of Mom and Vee?”
Oh please, don’t mention the basilisk who looks exactly like you Amity thought before booping Luz’s nose with her own and repeating in a menacing whisper
“Say it back, Noceda”
“I’ll need an incentive, Blight”
If Amity was half a dragon, then maybe her huffing would have been enough to scorch Luz’s dumb, immature face. The human told her what she wanted with just one look, but Amity denied with her head
“I’m not going to kiss you until you-“
“I love you so much, Amity” Luz interrupted her suddenly
The witch was having an internal debate between what felt better: The words coming from her girlfriend’s mouth or the way her warm breath reached her ears, but all those thoughts got wiped away as soon as she felt her kissing her so passionately and desperately, like she always did, but like it was the first time…
“I love you, I love you, I love you” the human insisted between breaths, attacking her mouth, her cheeks, her nose
“I get it” Amity said, separating from her a little
“I don’t think you do” Luz replied, kissing her once more
“You know” Luz said a few minutes later, thinking how cute and content Amity looked resting on her arms “I have a picnic basket over there; I prepared a human meal for us”
“Huh?” Amity said, looking at Luz’s side for a moment and noticing that there was, in fact, a wicker basket a few meters away
“Let me just…” Luz said, moving as little
“No” Amity ordered, tightening her hold “Don’t move away”
“It’s just over there Amity; it’ll be just a moment”
“No” the witch repeated
Luz giggled and caressed her girlfriend’s cheeks, whispering
“Don’t be so clingy, Amity Blight”
“I’m a star student and a member of the wealthiest family on the Boiling Isles”
“So?” Luz questioned, not used to hear her girlfriend bragging about those things
“That means I can do what I want” Amity replied, kissing Luz’s cheek quickly “And right now, what I want is for you to stay here”
“I’m gonna starve, sweetie”
Amity kissed her on the lips for the briefest moment for all response and then returned to her position, saying
“There, you won’t starve if I keep feeding you kisses”
Luz snorted and Amity added
“No, don’t move”
“However you wish, Empress Amity”
“And don’t call me that” Amity said, snuggling even closer “At least not until I actually take power”
Luz laughed again
Sun was setting on the horizon when Amity decided it was enough, technically, she would have preferred to stay like this forever, but there were things to do, people to meet, places to go…
Sensing a bit of movement, Luz turned to look at her and softly touched her hair, saying:
“Is there something on your mind?”
“We should probably get going… Camila and Vee are waiting for us…”
“I told you to call them hermanita and suegrita” Luz replied
“I’m not doing that” Amity said, shaking her head “At least not until we are properly introduced and they get… accustomed with my presence, it’s a matter of protocol”
“You sound like your mother” Luz said
“Said that again and I’ll lock you up in a dungeon with her”
“Oh, you would never do that…” Luz replied, ready to begin with another round of kisses
Amity put a finger in front of her lips
“I’m thinking the same thing you are” she commented “But we really need to go”
“Relax, Amity, I send mom a message just before crossing over here”
“What kind of message?”
“I just told her, look mamá, I want to spend half or maybe a full hour with my awesome girlfriend before getting home, so please wait for us”
“It’s been more than an hour, Luz” Amity reminded her, pointing at the sky
“Well, I’ll come up with an explanation; she doesn’t have to know we spend so much time here before going home…” Luz muttered, enveloping her arms around her girlfriend’s frame
“Luz Noceda, would you lie to your own mother?” Amity questioned jokingly
But instead of maintaining the smile, Luz looked down sadly, the words ‘lie to your mother’ made her remember too many sleepless nights hiding her secrets, and too many long days praying to get home soon
Her girlfriend saw the commotion in her eyes and took her head softly, guiding it towards her long lilac hair, the human snuggled against it for a moment before saying
“You always know how to calm me down”
“Of course I do” Amity said, rubbing circles on her back “After all, I’m an awesome girlfriend, aren’t I?”
“The very best” Luz said, kissing her for the umpteenth time that day “Can we eat our picnic now?”
“No way… You have to… stay…” her girlfriend replied, her eyes getting too heavy to being kept open and her mind too fuzzy to understand the meaning behind the word 'picnic'
“Whatever you say, sweetheart…” the human commented, moving some of her hair away and kissing her forehead “I’ll stay”
She wanted to say something else, but sleep was claiming her, and her girlfriend’s arms were a pillow too comfortable
When Amity opened her eyes, the only thing she saw was darkness, the happy warm feelings from before were completely gone and a strange contraption was holding her body down, making any movement impossible, she started to think the whole picnic thing had been nothing but a dream, a figment of her imagination playing with her...
She looked around the place where she was but nothing seemed familiar, everything was dark and weird and the girl realized that even if she felt something soft around her, she couldn’t move
The worst thing was realizing Luz wasn’t hugging her anymore and when she whispered her name and no response could be heard, her heart broke
Something had gone horribly wrong and Amity couldn’t pinpoint what it was, until her mind started to remember
The assault to the castle, the way a controlled Raine lured them into a trap, how Kikimora stabbed Eda on the back only for the witch to kick her against a concrete pillar…
Her whole body shook when she remembered how Hunter and his palisman sacrificed themselves to stop the Emperor and she frantically looked in the dark for Ghost, only to realize her own palisman was gone too
So many things happening at the same time, so many soldiers, so many obstacles in their path to prevent Belos from opening his own portal to the human realm
Belos…
Belos had attacked Luz, not only attacked her, he launched himself at the human with the strength and fury of a thousand demons and the only thing Amity could do was stay there, frozen, hopelessly watching…
Until she felt to the floor and crawled to her side, pleading her the same thing over and over again
“Luz… Stay, please stay, please stay…”
The witch blinked and in the middle of the dark, started to cry, her whole body shook from top to bottom until she did the only logical thing she could do
She screamed.
Just a few seconds later, someone opened a door and a harsh light invaded the dark place Amity was in, she got ready to fight against whoever wanted to attack her
But who entered wasn’t an attacker; the presence simply jumped into her bed and started to caress her face
“Amity… Amity calm down!”
The young Blight gulped and questioned
“Luz?”
“Yes, I’m here sweetie, what happened? You were screaming and…”
Oh Amity thought, remembering the rest
The Emperor was defeated
Luz survived and so did Eda, Raine and Hunter, and the others…
But especially Luz survived, that’s why they managed to build a proper portal using the remains of Belos’ old one
Luz insisted on visiting Earth with her girlfriend first, much to Gus’ disappointment and Ghost jealousy (her palisman was safe back on the Isles!)
But Amity still felt something was wrong
“I… can’t move…” she said, not fully realizing what was going on
“I’m sorry” Luz said, giving her a quick peck on the lips “You fell asleep during our not-picnic and I didn’t want to wake you up, so I carried you all the way here”
“I… can’t move” the witch repeated
“Right” Luz continued “I got you here and Mami say you looked so cute, so then we put you here and Mami turned you into a blanket burrito, but I think she overdid it”
“You mean my first meeting with your mother…?” Amity questioned
“Was her watching you sleeping for about fifteen minutes, yeah” Luz confirmed, laughing and freeing her girlfriend from her cozy prison
“I’m so embarrassed by everything you just said” Amity muttered, facepalming
“Oh don’t worry; you made a very good first impression!”
Amity frowned at that and asked
“And while I was caged in this, blanket burrito, what were you doing?”
“Talking with Mom and Vee” Luz explained “Telling them many tales of the bravery and heroics of my awesome girlfriend”
Knowing that everything was fine, and deciding that she was definitely going to have a talk with Camila and Vee in the morning, Amity prepared herself to sleep again, but right before that, she extended a hand towards Luz
“Amity?” the human asked, intertwining their fingers
“Please stay…” Amity said in a low whisper
Luz didn’t need to hear her twice; she walked all the way to the door, said a few quick words to her mother and closed the door, but gave it a second thought and left it barely opened
Laying besides her sweet witch, she enveloped her in her arms and kissed her lips softly, comforting her as best as she could and running her fingers through her hair over and over again
And even when she noticed Amity’s body relaxing and drifting to sleep, Luz Noceda kept whispering
“I’ll stay…”
