“No food.” Mint looked at Doki’s half empty cup with that same, sad expression. “Just whiskey. Last bottle too.” She added. “Lucky you.”
“Lucky me,” Doki breathed. Her words felt too big for the small space behind the counter that the both of them took up. “Um, thanks.”
“Chivalry isn’t dead, then,” Mint’s small smile wiped away the feeling her eyes held, the heat in Doki’s chest igniting further. “I know that isn’t the word,” she said before Doki could correct her again. “You’re welcome.”
She let Doki walk by her and watched her check all the windows, watched her curl up in the far corner atop a few still intact chairs that had deflated cushions. She watched Doki as Doki watched her, small smile never leaving as Doki’s eyes drooped shut.
When Doki woke up, she was gone.
