Work Text:
Stiles left Beacon Hills, and for him, it was the best decision after the Nogitsune saga.
Stiles couldn’t stay any longer, the nightmare, the waking up in the night was eating him from inside, he couldn’t bear looking at his best friend’s face, or even at Derek, knowing that he hurts them the most, including his dad when the bomb exploded in the station, he felt that he needs space and to be away from Beacon Hills.
“I can come with you.” the sheriff suggested, he couldn’t let his son go, not like this, he looks like a dead teenage walking.
“No, dad, you need to stay, you have your work as a sheriff, I need to go, I will be okay, dad.” Stiles tried to convince his dad.
“Okay, but only if you’ll promise to call me, I don’t want to lose you, you are my son, Stiles.” The sheriff asked as he hugged his son, letting him go.
“I will dad, and I’ll be back when I’m ready, I just can’t deal with it right now.” Stiles told to his dad, hugging him back.
“If you’ll need money let me know, I can send you some.” The sheriff said.
“I’ll let you know, I might try to get an early access to the college if I can, or online courses.”
“Keep me update, kiddo,” John asked.
“I will, dad.”
With that, Stiles left his home, climbing on the blue jeep, giving his dad one last look before he drove away from Beacon Hills.
Five years later…
The McCall pack including Derek and Peter never gave him by searching for Stiles, even though, the sheriff let them know that Stiles left on his accord.
The sheriff came to the pack after the night shift, looks glowing and happy, holding a package in his hands.
“What you have there, Sheriff?” Derek asked as the other gathered around the sheriff, wondered what got him so excited.
“Just books.” The sheriff replied, and got the books spread over the table.
Scott not looked very impressed, he only read book in high school when he was needed for some book review, he wasn’t much a book reader.
Derek on the other hand, was very curious as he noticed the cover of the book was looked like a werewolf, and next to him stood a boy, apparently the books were series, and what he has on his hand was the fifth in the series.
Derek searched for the first book of the series, noticed the cover of the first book was looked like a fire in the house and werewolves running away from it, it certainly got his attention for it now.
The first book was called, “It Begins with Fire.” The author called himself. The Hood, Red.
Apparently, there were seven books in the series.
He opened the book and noticed right away the dedication for it.
“What did you find, Derek? Is it readable?” Scott called, not looked much impressed with the whole books thing.
“Why don’t you find out and read after me?” Derek asked, not even looking toward the true alpha.
Derek read the dedication; he didn’t even notice himself smiling.
“For my cousin Miguel, thank you for the great times that we had, you are the muse for my series, hope you won’t hate me.”
Derek seemed caught by surprise, there was only one person that called him Miguel, and he hoped that’s not the other guy that he had seen before.
“Hey, Sheriff, can I take those to read?” Derek asked the sheriff, honestly, he just couldn’t wait to get away from the pack and read it alone, in the loft.
“Of course, I already have the books, I think that the post office sent it to me by mistake.” John told him.
“Thanks, Sheriff.” Derek said his thanks to him and gone before Scott will suggest another stupid idea to pass the time.
Derek missed Stiles, he figured that the young teen just needed to blow up some steam, considered the whole Nogitsune saga, the guilt thing might eat him alive.
Derek couldn’t wait to get home and start reading the books one by one, found it vert accurate, like the author knew of that fact, and Derek figured that it might be Stiles all along, even the names are almost similar, and wrote it as Gay YA series of books.
Even the series were called, “The Adventure of Derrick the Wolf.”
The name of the teen that accompany Derrick in the books was Mischief, not similar much to Stiles, but it sounds to him very familiar, he guessed because the sheriff kept telling them about Stiles as a child with his late wife.
In the last two books, he couldn’t stop smiling at the moment that Mischief telling Derrick that he loves him but afraid to hurt him, and Derrick in return just kissed Mischief and told him that he loves him too.
In the last book, Derek noticed another dedication in the beginning and Thank You at the end of the book.
The dedication said – “Derek Hale, if you are reading this, I love you, always have, always will, you are my muse for this series.”
In the Thank You was written what the author thanked for, including the agents, the book published for choosing him, the police officers that helped him for the research and the group that helped him when he was a teen.
Derek noticed that there was an email at the end of the page, asking readers to write comments and let the author knows if they love the book/series.
Reading the whole seven books one by one, took him around two days with break for food and refreshment, while keeping mental notes to ask the sheriff if he knows about Stiles, because Derek found himself wants to talk to him about the books so much.
Derek searched for the laptop right away but didn’t find any.
“What are you looking for?” Peter asked, noticed the pile of books on the table, and Derek holding one book in his hand.
“Your laptop, I need to write email, but I have no idea how to use that thing.” Derek replied.
“Okay, let me just open my email, so you could send one.” Peter suggested.
Peter looked at the book that Derek has in his hand.
“It’s a great series, finally read it?” Peter questioned.
“Did you read it? Why do I not know about it?” Derek asked.
“Of course, the sheriff brought it when you were with the pack, playing heroes, and I told you that was stupid plan, but you went anyway and got yourself hurt, so I read it while you played hero.” Peter replied with a smirk.
“I think that’s Stiles, I want to write him a note, and I do hope that he’ll come back.” Derek told to his uncle.
Peter showed Derek what he can do before leaving his nephew alone to deal and write Stiles an email.
If Peter didn’t success bringing their human back to the pack, maybe Derek could be.
Derek typed the email, checking it twice before writing in the subject list – I READ THE BOOKS, PLEASE READ MY WORDS
Derek just let it out as he typed non-stop, and hope that Stiles will read it, the thought of his books, all of them, and on personal notes he wrote of how he missed Stiles and loves him too, and Miguel is also missed him, but not as a cousin, and added a wink emoji, which was hard for him to find as he almost delete the email, but was glad that it was saved in the draft, as he looked it over and then he sent it, hoped that Stiles will write him a reply or something, let him know that he used Peter account for it.
“Thanks Peter.” Derek said and went over his room with the series in his hands.
About two hours later, there was ping in his phone that caught him by surprise.
From Stiles – I’m glad that you love it, Sourwolf.
I’m not planning to come, too many memories, I hurt too many people, but you are welcome to join me.
Derek to Stiles – Everyone already forgave you, they know that it wasn’t your fault, you were possessed and they know that you didn’t ask for it.
Your dad missed you, I miss you.
Are you sure that I can’t convince you?
I have my ways. 😉
I love you, Stiles. 💖
From Stiles – I’ll see when I can come back, busy days, start working on another series.
I miss you too. I love you so damn much, Derek.
Derek to Stiles – Good, I’ll let your dad know that you’ll come.
Mi casa es tu casa.
From Stiles – Okay, I’ll see you.
One week later, Stiles came back to Beacon Hills at night, not looked very thrilled to it, but his dad and Derek were very happy to see him back.
His dad hugged him, and then Derek looked at Stiles, checking him over, noticed how beautiful the man before him looked.
“You are beautiful, I hope that you are not taken,” Derek told him, smiling.
“Looks whose talking,” Stiles told him back.
“Okay, that’s my cue to leave you two alone, just one question.”
Derek and Stiles looked at each other, can’t wait to hug and kiss, but it will wait, Stiles didn’t know what his dad wants.
“For how long you can stay?”
“For one week, I have book signing to do, and I suppose to work on the next series.” Stiles replied.
“I suppose that I see you both tomorrow for breakfast so I can catch up with you, son.” John told him with a smile.
“Tomorrow it is.” Stiles confirmed as his dad left with his cruiser and he joined Derek in the Camaro, putting his bag in the backseat.
“I can’t believe that you actually here,” Derek said exciting, “I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Derek, and you were my muse for the first book series.” Stiles told him, smiling.
“I can’t wait to read your first book for next series.”
“I know, and it’s not Gay YA anymore, Gay romance.” Stiles shared.
End!
