It’s only later the next day that it hits Merlin.
He killed someone.
And not just a drop-a-chandelier-on-them kind of death, a death that was deliberate and messy and he can still hear the sound of Edwin’s skull splitting open. He starts to shake as he remembers it, hand slipping on the dagger he’s sharpening. Blood wells up, sharp and red and sluggish, on his palm, just like the blood that spilled out of Edwin’s head, red just like this, and he drops the dagger and the whetstone, throwing up everywhere.The day after Merlin kills Edwin Muirden, he's not okay.
