"Sorry guys, I can't, maybe next time." It seems like Kyle had been saying that more and more for the past two weeks and whenever someone asked why, Kyle always made up some bullshit excuse saying he had to babysit Ike or study, help his mom out, whatever came to his mind.
Yet here he was, at his boyfriend's house, leaning against him as they watched some weird horror movie about a man who's hands were being controlled by his mother as he went on a killing spree. Kyle barely understood the movie but David assured him that it was a classic. Kyle was barely paying attention to the B-Movie on the screen and instead directed his attention towards David, who's eyes were fixed onto the screen.
He and David had been going steady for since their sophmore year of high school but kept quiet about their relationship all the way to their senior year, not because he was scared of what anyone thought of him or that he was ashamed of their relationship, he just didn't feel like dealing with Cartman's bullshit because he knew he'd make a big deal out of it. He could hear his annoying voice in his head right now, squawking about how the Jew and the Mexican were gay and how it wasn't right or some shit like that and he didn't feel like dealing with it. Even if he explained to Cartman that he was bisexual, not gay, Cartman would say something ignorant like 'you're half gay' or something along the lines of it and he didn't know how Stan would react, since he and Stan have had an on and off romance since freshman year, only for Stan to always say that things weren't working out and go back to Wendy. Of course, Kyle didn't blame Wendy though. They both knew how much of a dumbass Stan could be. David felt the same about keeping their relationship quiet so they were both fine with not telling anyone and sneaking around. He rested his head on David's chest. It was nice.
Until he felt his phone buzz. He started to ignore it until it buzzed again.
"You wanna get that ?" David asked.
"We're trying to watch a movie." Kyle said.
"I don't mind." David said, reaching for the remote and pausing the movie. Kyle sighed as he sat up and picked up his buzzing phone, immediately greeted by Stan's voice.
"Dude you won't believe it-"
"- I'm kinda busy." Kyle said, interrupting Stan, an annoyed tone in his voice.
"But dude-"
"I can't talk right now." Kyle said, cutting him off again.
"Dude-"
- I'll talk to you later Stan, my mom is calling me." Kyle said, hanging up, cuddling back into David as David unpaused the movie.
"You know, you can go hang out with your friends if you want, I don't mind." David said, glancing down at Kyle. "I know how you guys are, with your crazy adventures."
Kyle shook his head.
"Why not ?" David asked, arching an eyebrow.
"I'd prefer to be here with you." Kyle said. "I can't stand Cartman, Stan and I have been drifting and Kenny... well he's just Kenny and I think it's time for us to spend a little time apart, besides you're..." he trailed off a little. "Different."
"Different ?" David asked.
"I don't know how to explain it." Kyle said. "It's like playing a different game when I'm with you, I don't have to worry about whether Cartman's gonna do some insane shit or if I'm gonna stumble across some secret government conspiracy, I can breathe around you." He said. "You're like an Easter candy cane."
"A what ?" David asked with a laugh.
"An Easter candy cane. Candy cane's are usually a winter holiday thing, so it's really uncommon to have them on a holiday like Easter but candy canes taste good, they're sweet and a delight to have, so they're not unwelcome." Kyle said. "But you know, that's what I like about you."
"I'm still not getting what you're saying." David said.
"I'm just-" Kyle sighed. "Glad you're normal and that you don't attract weirdness 24/7 and that I can actually relax and just watch a movie with you because sometimes I just need a break from the constant adventures."
"I'm glad that you can relax around me." David said. "You know, you're different yourself."
"How so ?" Kyle asked.
"It feels like everyone in this town is either stupid, insane or they just don't care about anything happening around them and that they only care about themselves, but not you." David said. "You're one of the smartest people I've ever met and you actually care when things are happening, even when others don't." He started to caress Kyle's face. "I've never met anyone in this town who's as kind or smart or passionate as you and if no one can appreciate that, just know that I do and I always will because I love you."
Kyle felt his cheeks heat up.
"Do you really mean that ?" Kyle asked, leaning closer to David, so that their faces were inches apart.
"Of course I do." David said with a smirk as he leaned in and kissed Kyle, Kyle kissing back with a quiet moan before pulling back, resting his forehead against David's so that he could stare into his beautiful brown eyes.
"You know, we've probably missed most of the movie, right ?" David asked.
"We can always watch it again." Kyle assured. "I've been paying attention to you most of the movie anyways."
"I know." David said. "I feel your eyes burning into me, you need to learn how to be less obvious." He laughed.
"It's not my fault, you're too damn gorgeous." Kyle said with a laugh. "How could I not want to look at you ?"
"You're so sappy." David said, pressing a gentle kiss against Kyle's forehead. "The sweetest boyfriend anyone could ask for."
"Oh, but I'm the sappy one ?" Kyle asked, rolling his eyes, as he pulled away from David and laid his head back on his chest, finally getting comfortable again. Was it wrong to constantly lie and blow off his friends ? Yeah. But was it worth it so that he could spend some quality time with his boyfriend ? You bet your ass it was worth it.
