"Well?" she asked, sitting on the brown tiles in front of her window waiting for the boy beside her to speak his mind.
Which both could agree he had done plenty of that day.
Kevin looked over her, her blood shot eyes, her hair a mess. She had just changed out of her clothes and into her PJs when he had knocked on her window wanting to talk.
The redhead agreed, she'd been thinking over what had happened that day and actually wanted to talk to him too.
Guilty wouldn't even begin to describe what he felt at that moment. He had hurt her, and now hoped it hadn't resulted in any permanent issues between the 2. It was after so long that Kevin finally had someone who cared for him, and he cared back just as much.
He looked looked down at his stone fingers and sighed.
" gwen look I... I just. I didn't know what you were doing for me. I shouldn't have doubted you but, doubting has become something I just do. I cant help it "
Kevin Levin had never apologised before. His go to phrase was punch first, don't ask questions ever, but he knew he couldn't use that method now.
" What I'm trying to say is, I'm.. I..I'm sorry. For everything"
He went quiet and looked to his right again, waiting to see some sort of reaction on her face.
But Gwen continued to sit there with her knees to her chest, staring at her bare feet.
She didn't say anything, and her face was as stoic as it was 10 minutes ago when he had asked if he could have a chance to explain himself.
Kevin was nervous, he didn't know what was going to happen. All he did know was he didn't want to lose her.
" look Kevin," the anodite said softly.
Kevin shifted slightly,. She had finally said something after what had felt like forever and he was relieved.
Atleast she isn't mad enough to keep at the silent treatment for long, he thought.
" every since you mutated I've tried to be there for you. I've let every comment, every time you've snapped at me slide, thinking that you were upset and couldn't help it."
She lifted her head now and stared at the dark asphalt road, still avoiding looking in his direction.
" I really like you and as a friend I dont really care how you treat me, it's not going to stop me from helping you, but as your girlfriend.... "
Something was wrong, he could feel it in his gut.
" I said I was sorry Gwen, what do you want?" he snapped slightly, cutting her off. Oh it was really hard, talking that is.
Wasn't used to it and he didn't have the patience for it.
However, he regretted those words as soon as they left his mouth. He decided to shut up and not interrupt her as he didn't want to make things worse.
His girlfriend on the other hand didn't even flinch.
It was getting colder as the night slowly progressed and she shuddered in the cool breeze before she continued.
" nothing Kevin. I don't want anything from you. I'm sorry for what happened to you but there is a limit to what I can take."
He raised his eyebrow at her, giving her a what do you mean look?
" this time, you.. You cheated on me." her voice broke a bit as she now hugged her knees closer to herself. The redhead seemed so small now, all curled up.
" I'm sorry babe, I really am. I just - "
Now it was Gwen's turn to cut him off.
" just because you are going through something doesn't mean you can treat me however you want Kevin. I've told you like a million times that you could always talk to me about anything, that I'd always be here. I tried giving you space too. I thought I knew what I was doing but it seems like I was wrong. I don't and I'm sorry "
She looked up at the sky, refusing to look at him. It was supposed to be a full moon tonight, what a shame though that the moon had decided to hide behind the clouds.
" I'm tired Kevin, lately it seems like I'm the only one who cares about this relationship"
" I'm trying Gwen, I am and I care a lot"
"really? Doesn't seem like it"
They sat there in silence for a bit, just the 2 of them while the rest of the world was fast asleep.
" look, I promise from here on out I'll try, I'll change. Just give me a chance to do better" he pleaded, his eyes not leaving her form.
He moved slightly closer to her, but not too close, still wanting to give her some space.
" I know and I believe you. But I think right now, we should take a little break."
His heart shattered as his fears had come true, he had lost her. He could feel his eyes stinging now and did his best to hold the emotions in.
" gwen I -"
" it's late Kevin and I have school tomorrow" she said getting up. Bright pink steps appeared in front of him as she turned around to get back in her room.
" use the stairs, it's faster than climbing the tree. And look on the bright side. Now there's nothing stopping you from getting those other girls you want so bad"
With that she slammed her window shut and drew the curtains.
Kevin had miscalculated. She was far more upset than what she led on. The boy couldn't say he was surprised, he figured his actions would be caught up to him sooner or later.
Oh how he wished they hadn't though.
He climbed down the platforms and onto the street, finally letting his tears roll down as walked home alone.
