Summary
“You’re not a monster?” The boy breathes, like if he says it too loudly, Techno might morph into some horrifying, bone-snapping creature that will swallow him whole.
“I’m not.” Techno agrees, furrowing his eyebrows. “What made you think I was?”
The kid narrows his eyes warily, his brown curls flopping down into his face to obscure his expression as he looks down at the dirt. “Dream said the Artic Empire soldiers sell their souls to the devil. That’s why they’re so strong, and why Esempii soldiers are so brave.”
Techno snorts. “Well, that’s a bunch of bullshit.”

Techno, General and Prince of the Artic Empire, gets captured as a prisoner of war. He meets two kids in the Esempii military camp, under not-the-best-conditions, that most definitely should not be there, and promises to them and himself that he's going to get them out of here.
