Work Text:

Germany and Italy found themselves under a bus stop. The rain was pouring down as they looked out over the city. The rain had started suddenly, making both soaked.

“It suddenly started raining.” Germany looked over at Italy who was holding his shirt up. “My shirt is soaked…” Germany couldn’t help himself; his eyes ran down Italy's chest, clearly seeing how the white shirt clung to his skin. As Germany looked back up, their eyes met for only a split second before Italy looked out at the rain. He let out a long, sad 'vee'. “And I really wanted to go to the restaurant I told you about. I really wanted to go with you…”

Germany felt his heart start beating faster and louder. If maybe, he thought to himself. He felt his hand move on its own. Germany's mind was racing, thinking up all the bad reasons for himself to run his finger along Italy's cheek. Would Italy freak out and panic, thinking it would be about something he had on his cheek? Would he think Germany was weird and just look at him disgustedly? Germany had known Italy for years, yet he was terribly at guessing how Italy would react to something he would do. He was so close-

“Ah!” Italy's sudden outburst made Germany snap his hand back before Italy could see it, but when their eyes meet again, he knew Italy had seen it, or at least guessed something was up, since he had been so quiet. "Look, the rain has stopped,” Italy pointed out and laughed a bit.

Germany shook his head a little and looked out over the street again. While the clouds were still dark, it had indeed stopped raining. “I didn’t notice.” Germany took a step out from the bus stop. “It might start again, so we should just head back to the hotel.” Germany started walking, again thinking to himself it would have been nice if the rain could have lasted a bit longer.

What Germany didn’t know was that that was exactly the same thought Italy had as they walked back to the hotel too.
