Work Text:
The morning of his fourth anniversary with Yoongi, Jeongguk woke up to soft touches. Gentle fingers were carding through his dark hair and massaging his scalp. He shifted his body slightly, before opening his eyes and lazily smiling up at Yoongi who was still caressing his head.
"Good morning," Yoongi said quietly and leaned down to press a kiss to Jeongguk's forehead. "Sleep well?"
Jeongguk hummed as he sat up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "Yeah," he mumbled, his voice still a little croaky.
Yoongi pressed another kiss to Jeongguk's forehead. "Happy anniversary. I made you some breakfast to eat in bed."
"Oh." Jeongguk's eyes widened as his boyfriend placed a tray onto his lap. He hadn't even been awake enough to realise it was their anniversary yet, although he had thought about nothing else for the past weeks. "Thank you. Happy anniversary."
Every morning, Yoongi made breakfast for Jeongguk and had been since they first moved in together. It was sort of a tradition by now that was very hard to shake - not that Jeongguk wanted to. It wasn't that Jeongguk couldn't or refused to make breakfast. Yoongi always woke up before him, so he used that time to shower, take Holly out on a walk and make breakfast. He had once offered his boyfriend to wake up earlier as well, so they could cook together, but Yoongi preferred it like this. More often than not their breakfast consisted of leftovers from the night before, but today Yoongi had made French Toast - Jeongguk's favourite food to have in the morning.
Yoongi sat down in bed next to Jeongguk and handed him a pair of chopsticks, though the younger knew not to eat yet. His boyfriend always fed him the first bite of a shared meal. Though he was the hyung and therefore got to start eating first, Yoongi always gave this first bite to him. Jeongguk had long figured out that this was one of his boyfriend's love languages.
So when Yoongi fed him his first piece of French Toast, he couldn't help but smile, feeling a familiar warmth spread through his entire body.
Yoongi loved taking care of Jeongguk and Jeongguk loved being taken care of. His boyfriend made him a homemade meal every evening, he gave him hugs and kisses, he ran him a bath when he was having a stressful day, he made sure they never were out of banana milk. In turn, Jeongguk took care of Yoongi by checking that he wasn't overworking himself and that he was getting enough sleep. But a lot of times his way to take care of Yoongi was by letting himself be taken care of - which at this point in their relationship came natural to him.
Jeongguk had met Yoongi when he was 21 years old. At that time he was still finishing his degree in art history while also interning at one of the biggest art museums in Seoul. He had been so proud of landing an internship at the museum, but also so nervous that he was almost jittery throughout the first week. Of course, he met Yoongi in that jittery first week. He didn't remember in detail everything that happened that day, but he remembered a lot of things going wrong. So when he ran into a stranger in an area that was clearly only for staff members, he freaked out a little - at least internally. Believing that Yoongi was a visitor of the museum who had somehow gotten incredibly lost, he tried to guide the man out of the area - only to be met with an amused laugh and Yoongi explaining to him that while he wasn't working at the museum, he had just wanted to drop something off. That something was a USB stick with music that he had composed and produced since the museum had commissioned him to make music for them to play throughout the day. Jeongguk still remembered how speechless and in awe he had been, though it couldn't be compared with the respect that he now had for his boyfriend's talent. Yoongi was someone who could compose a beautiful masterpiece out of thin air, his brain always buzzing with ideas - which sometimes made him lose sleep.
Back then Yoongi of course had only been a stranger he encountered and thought he'd never see again. They hadn't exchanged numbers or anything, since Jeongguk had been extremely embarrassed by mistaking Yoongi for a lost visitor and had fled the scene almost immediately. That evening he had screamed into a pillow for embarrassing himself like this in front of this incredibly talented and handsome man while his best friend Jimin had just laughed at him for a few good minutes. The next day he had already almost forgotten about the incident but then the week after he had run into Yoongi again - this time the man had been strolling through the museum. His first reaction had been to avoid him, not wanting to embarrass himself again. But Yoongi had seen him nevertheless and waved at him. Since Jeongguk technically had been still on his lunch break, he rushed over trying not to panic over what Yoongi could possibly say to him.
"I know you're working, I just wanted to give you this," Yoongi had said with a charming smile while handing a piece of folded paper to Jeongguk. When the younger unfolded the paper he saw a phone number written on it with an 'I don't know if you're into guys but you're the most beautiful man I've ever seen and I'd love to take you out some time'. When he looked up from the note Yoongi was already leaving but not without sending him another smile. And that's how they got together because Jeongguk had not a single reason not to message him after finishing work.
"What are you thinking about?" Yoongi asked when he noticed that Jeongguk was eating his breakfast particularly slow this morning.
Jeongguk scrunched his nose. "I'm thinking about how we met. It feels like so long ago."
"You were so adorable and shy back then." Yoongi laughed and reached out to run his fingers through Jeongguk's long hair. "You're still the cutest now but you don't get that shy on me anymore."
The younger hummed and pressed a kiss to Yoongi's cheek. "I have no reason to be shy around you."
Quietly, they shared their breakfast side by side. They didn’t need to talk to enjoy each other’s company which was one of Jeongguk’s favourite things about their relationship. Plus, it gave him time to think about his plan for the day. Yoongi had let him sleep in for a while, but unfortunately, he’d have to get ready and leave the house soon. He probably wouldn’t be back home until the early evening.
Jeongguk had planned a very special present for Yoongi because, well, it was a very special day, wasn’t it? They had had anniversaries before and they surely would have a lot of anniversaries in the future, but there was something about this fourth one. So Jeongguk had reached out to his favourite tattoo artist and told him that he wanted to get a tattoo dedicated to his boyfriend, Yoongi. His biggest passion in life was art and he took pride especially in the art inked on his skin. Getting a tattoo inspired by his love for Yoongi meant a lot to him and he knew that Yoongi would understand the importance of it. No one else but Yoongi loved Jeongguk’s tattoos as much as he did.
But this was all a surprise for Yoongi, so Jeongguk had to schedule the appointment for today so that there wasn’t a long time frame in which he had to hide the tattoo from Yoongi. Because there was no way he could’ve done that.
“I have to leave in half an hour,” Jeongguk said as Yoongi carried the dirty plates into the kitchen. He pulled a pair of jeans and a random shirt out of the dresser. He should be back home in time to be able to properly dress up for dinner. Yoongi told him that he made a reservation but not at which restaurant. Jeongguk thought it was probably the place where they had had their first date.
“Why did you have to have a work meeting today of all days?” Yoongi asked. Jeongguk couldn’t see his face but he was sure his boyfriend was pouting. His voice always came out a little whinier whenever he did.
“You know I’m the last person to ask to reschedule.” Jeongguk walked into the kitchen after grabbing a towel for his shower. “And we would’ve just sat around otherwise. This way you get to have a little free time before I get back.”
This time Yoongi actually pouted at him. “You say this as if I don’t enjoy every minute I spend with you.” Jeongguk just smiled and pressed a kiss to Yoongi’s pouty lips, before making his way to the bathroom.
After showering (and almost falling over Holly who had been waiting for him in front of the bathroom door), Jeongguk grabbed his work bag and made sure his wallet and a spare phone charger were still inside. Normally he didn't need to take a bag to his tattoo artist but thankfully he had remembered that Yoongi would probably get confused if he left for "work" but didn't take his work bag.
"I'll text you when I'm on my way home," Jeongguk said and hugged Yoongi, who was already sitting at his desk in his office. He leaned his cheek against Yoongi's head. "Have a good day, okay? We'll have the best anniversary dinner ever tonight."
Yoongi smiled and leaned his head back to look at him. "Alright. I hope your meeting goes well."
With a smile, Jeongguk kissed his boyfriend goodbye and left the apartment - after petting Holly too of course. Once he was outside, he couldn't help but giggle to himself. Getting a new tattoo always got him excited but today's tattoo was extra special. He'd have something to remind him of Yoongi on his skin forever. That was as good as it was going to get.
Once he got to the tattoo studio, his best friend Jimin was already waiting for him with a big smile on his face. "There you are! Excited? Nervous?"
Jeongguk snorted. "Never nervous," he replied. He looked around, trying to catch a glimpse of his tattoo artist, Taehyung. He was probably still in the back since their appointment was only in a couple of minutes. "Okay, maybe, a little nervous? But more about Yoongi's reaction. I mean, I know, he's going to love it but-"
"Ah, if it isn't my best client." Taehyung walked out of his backroom to immediately pull Jeongguk into a hug. "I got the design ready, you wanna take a look?"
"Obviously." Jeongguk had thought long and hard about what his tattoo for Yoongi should look like. He didn't want to get his name tattooed, but he had thought about getting something in Yoongi's handwriting. In the end, he had decided against it though, since it didn't really fit with his other tattoos. So he had sat down with Taehyung, who was one of his friends at this point, and brainstormed. Together they had come up with the best design which Taehyung had then finalised over the last weeks.
Taehyung handed him his tablet. "Here you go. Let me know if you need any changes."
Jeongguk smiled down at the design in front of him. Taehyung had made a rough sketch of Yoongi's hands playing the piano, framed by flowers - most specifically Yoongi's birth flower, the larch. With Yoongi's passion for music being one of the things that had brought them together, this felt like the perfect tattoo. Jeongguk loved to listen to his boyfriend play the piano for hours on end. This was perfect. Jeongguk couldn't wait to have it etched into his skin forever. "I love it."
Taehyung grinned brightly and patted Jeongguk's shoulder. "Great. I'm gonna get the stencil ready, you can sit down already." Feeling almost jittery, Jeongguk sat down on the leather chair. Jimin pulled Taehyung's stool over and sat down next to him. When Taehyung caught him, he nudged him teasingly. "You gonna tattoo him instead?"
Jimin licked his lips and looked up at him. "Sure."
Jeongguk laughed and tried to kick his best friend off the stool. "Ya, not this tattoo. I'll let you try next time but today I really need Taehyung's talent."
With a fake gasp, Jimin put his hand on his chest. "Are you saying I don't have talent?"
"Absolutely," Jeongguk replied.
"So," Taehyung said slowly as he was wiping down Jeongguk's left biceps. "How was your morning? Did Yoongi spoil you already?"
The younger hummed. "He always does. We ate breakfast in bed."
"Damn," mumbled Jimin who had moved over to the sofa in the room a few feet away. "Where the hell am I gonna find a guy that makes me breakfast in bed?"
Jeongguk tried his best not to laugh, since Taehyung was placing the stencil on his arm but even his tattoo artist was hiding his smile. Jimin had a tendency to complain about his dating life but every time he liked someone he kept beating around the bush. Maybe he was scared of commitment, Jeongguk wasn't sure, he didn't pry whenever Jimin stayed quiet about it.
"I'm sure he's out there somewhere," Taehyung said with an amused tone. "Don't give up yet, Jimin-ah."
"Yes, don't give up," Jeongguk singsonged, sending Jimin a teasing smile. His best friend groaned and flipped him off.
"You need to shut up, being friends with you makes me almost depressed." Jimin let out a whine, a pout on his lips. "Being a third wheel with you and Yoongi hyung is the absolute worst."
Jeongguk snorted. "Oh my god, no need to be so dramatic. We're just in love."
His best friend huffed quietly but didn't say anything else. Jimin loved teasing Jungkook about how whipped he was for Yoongi, the same way Jeongguk loved to tease him about never having a boyfriend.
When Taehyung got to work and started on the tattoo, Jeongguk watched him curiously as always. He didn't mind the pain, he didn't even really feel it. It honestly hurt more whenever he had knots in his hair and Yoongi offered to brush them out. To be fair, this was his favourite thing about tattoos — getting them, watching them being inked. He was so happy that he had found Taehyung since he absolutely loved his style and they got along so well. Plus Taehyung was always excited to feed into his tattoo addiction. Jeongguk was just glad he could afford it.
They were about halfway done when Jeongguk looked over to Jimin to find him painting his fingernails with black nail polish on the sofa. "What are you doing? Do you really just carry nail polish around?"
Jimin giggled. "Yeah, I found it in my bag. Do you want me to touch up your nails as well? For dinner tonight?"
Jeongguk glanced down at the chipped off black nail polish on his fingernails. "If you want to? I can't really move but-"
"It's fine, it's fine, let me just-" With a grin, Jimin almost sat down in his lap so that he could start painting on Jeongguk's right hand. Jeongguk watched him for a minute, before looking back at his new tattoo, where Yoongi's hands were really starting to take shape on his skin.
Suddenly, Jeongguk felt a wave of emotions run through his body. For one, he was excited. Excited about a new tattoo in general, excited about a tattoo that not only represented Yoongi but a tattoo of Yoongi - even if it was just a sketch of his hands - and excited about getting to show Yoongi this tattoo. On the other hand, he felt very overwhelmed by the pure love he felt for Yoongi, especially today.
They had come a long way, Yoongi and him. They had fit together perfectly when they met but that didn't mean they had never fought or that they hadn't had some rough patches where they just struggled to communicate properly. They did go through all the ups and downs and they learned from the downs and grew to be the couple they were now. Jeongguk was proud of them, he really was. They had a wonderful apartment and the cutest dog possible and they were in love.
For that very reason, Jeongguk almost cried when Taehyung was done with the tattoo and he looked at it in the mirror for the first time. His tattoo artist smiled and nudged him gently. "You like it?"
"Yeah," he whispered, stepping a little closer to really look at it. "It's perfect."
Jimin stood next to him inspecting the tattoo in the mirror as well. "Hey, do you wanna change into the shirt I borrowed last week? I have it with me. You know, the white one with the flowy sleeves?"
"Huh." Jeongguk pursed his lips. "Well, I was just gonna change at home."
"You wanted to show your tattoo after dinner though, right? If you change here already, there's no way Yoongi hyung will catch a glimpse of the new ink."
"That's true," Jeongguk replied, nodding slowly. Maybe Jimin had a point. The shirt his best friend had borrowed was his favourite shirt anyway, so he would love to wear it to their anniversary dinner.
After changing into the dress shirt that Jimin had thankfully washed and ironed, he paid Taehyung for his lovely service as always. They joked a little about Taehyung charging him extra for making him design a tattoo this significant to Jeongguk, but after they left and Jeongguk was on his way home, he got really excited again. He couldn't wait to spend a long evening with the love of his life and amazing food.
He was already thinking about what he was going to order when he unlocked the door to their apartment, which had him so distracted he almost didn't notice the rose petals on the floor. With a quiet gasp he stared at the flowers as he slipped out of his shoes. "Hyung?"
He looked up to find Yoongi standing in front of their dining table, wearing a suit and with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. "Welcome home."
