Chapter Text
Prologue
The nine year old Sirius Black was laying under his canopy bed.
It was green just like the rest of his room and it made him miss his bedroom in France even more.
Back in France he had had a room with a beautiful view and he had had at least a little creative freedom.
But when they moved into a house in England it was already stacked with furniture and it was hardly his taste.
The only thing that meant anything to him in France that he had brought with him was the dark blue muggle fairytale book he had stolen from an abandoned library. He was clutching said book in his sweaty palms and reading the book over and over again. It was hard for him to decide which story he loved more, but he especially found himself enjoying the stories with the happy endings.
Suddenly he heard steps from the stairs and he knew that it was his mother checking if he had already gone to bed. Hastily he rolled out of the crack, leaving the book behind and jumping on the bed.
He was listening silently to figure out where the footsteps went and he never noticed how he drifted to sleep.
Something was shaking Sirius. He slowly cracked one of his eyes open and saw his little brother with tousled hair and tear stained cheeks. Sirius sat up and asked if he was alright. Seven year old Regulus was shaking his head. Of course not. Sirius rolled to one side of the bed and opened his blanked for Reggie. The boy crawled next to his older brother and Sirius left the bed on the other side.
"Where are you going?" Sounded a cracking voice.
" I want to show you something but you have to PROMISE not to tell mother and father!" answered Sirius.
Regulus nodded his head. The grey eyed boy smiled at his brother, ducked down and reached for his beloved book.
" What is that?" Asked Regulus eager for information.
" This, little brother, is a fairytale book! It has stories in both English and French and the stories are magnificent! Want me to read to you? explained the Black heir.
Regulus nodded.
Sirius sat back down next to Regulus, who sank his head into Sirius' pillow and Sirius opened the book.
