"This is stupid," Jade says, rather loudly. Per usual, Tori doesn't listen to her, and is already dragging her into the middle of her stupid "Prome", her eyes bright, her smile blinding. "Vega, the literal last thing I want to do is dance with you."
Tori grins at her, and it's breathtakingly beautiful.
"You'll dance with me, or I'll announce you Prome Queen," Tori threatens, her voice low enough for only Jade to hear, but not low enough to be lost under the rumble of music. "And I'll announce Robbie as your Prome King. Dance with me, Jade." Admittedly, the threat in itself would be more than enough for Jade to be convinced to dance with Tori, but she really doesn't need any convincing. She decided she was going to be dancing with Tori ever since the woman grabbed her by the hand and started to pull her into the crowd.
Jade sighs, but she lets Tori situate them across from each other, watches as Tori sways a little for a few seconds, and wonders for a second if she managed to sneak in alcohol. Tori moves forward in a second, grabbing Jade's hand and twirling herself around, bouncing up on her heels as she moves. Jade laughs at the sight of her, earning her a sharp glare from Tori, but the look doesn't hold all that much venom in it. Jade grips Tori's hand a little tighter, reaching out to wrap her arm around the other's waist, dipping her immediately. Tori squeals, laughing immediately after, and Jade promptly rolls her eyes, wondering if anyone's ever danced with Tori properly.
"You're a shit dancer!" Jade shouts over the sudden roar of the crowd, her heart slamming in her chest at the way that Tori looks up at her. She's grinning like wild, her eyes sparkling, reflecting in the bright lights that are everywhere, flashing red and blue. Tori pushes herself up, nearly falling into Jade when she does so, which doesn't help the way Jade's heart threatens to go into overdrive at the simple touch. "And your Prome sucks!"
"Okay, Prome Queen!" Tori shoots back, grabbing her by the wrists and shoving her back a second later, throwing her hands up in the air as she sways her hips from side to side, laughing and swaying and moving so fluidly that Jade is helpless but to watch. She's fairly aware of her crush on Tori, though she's been desperately trying to ignore it, and watching her dance and move and be so in element is only making it more apparent. "Dance with me, Jade! Come on! Don't just stand there!"
"You should've brought someone else to dance with!" Jade shouts over the crowd, but she feels herself starting to move, the pulse of music underneath of her feet finally getting to her. "Like Cat or Andre! I don't dance!" Tori laughs, tossing her hair back over her shoulder, and it makes Jade's mouth go dry. She wonders if Tori can tell. She hopes not, she really hopes she can't.
"You do now!" Tori tells her, as if it's that simple.
And it is.
It really is that simple.
Jade sways on her feet and raises her arms up into the air, laughing a little when Tori nearly trips over her own feet. She stops laughing when Tori actually does trip, stumbling forward and into Jade's arms. She looks down at Tori, who stares back up at her, looking embarrassed. "You fell," Jade tells her, doing her absolute best to sound unimpressed, to feign her boredom. Tori, of course, picks up on it with ease, grinning at her with a spark in her eyes. "Get off of me, Vega." Tori at least does that, pushing herself back. Jade's convinced she's going to fall on her ass, but somehow she doesn't, and she immediately starts to move again.
Somewhere in the crowd, she catches Beck's gaze, and promptly decides that she should be dancing, that she should be showing off how much fun she's having, how happy she is to be here. It's not like either of them are going to believe it, but that's not the point. Jade reaches out, grabbing Tori by the shoulder, spinning her around. She grabs Tori's hand, throwing it up into the air as she snakes her other arm around Tori's waist, dipping her again. Tori grins up at her, and Jade feels the familiar weight of Tori's body against her arm suddenly disappear, gasping when she's suddenly a little too close to the ground for comfort.
When Tori releases her, she looks out into the crowd again, and finds that Beck is gone. Part of her aches. The other part of her cheers. A small voice in her head berates her for not paying full attention to Tori, and that's the one that she chooses to listen to. She watches again as Tori sways effortlessly, dancing as if it's in her blood, moving to the beat of the music and laughing when she catches Jade watching her again.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
There are a million answers Jade could pick from. You're a bad dancer, you're cute, I want to kiss you. She opts on moving to dip Tori again, which she succeeds at, and as she stares down into Tori's eyes, she wonders if now would be a good time to kiss her.
She's thought about it for a long time, ever since the first week of them meeting, but she's never really thought about actually doing it. There have been more times than Jade can count where she wanted to push Tori up against a door or against her locker and kiss her until their lips bruised, but the actual thought of going through with it terrified her to the point where she managed to block out those thoughts from her mind with relative success.
Of course, relative means nothing when it comes to Tori Vega, it seems.
Jade decides that if she's going to do something stupid, she should do it now rather than later, just to get it over with.
And so she does.
She leans even closer than they already were to each other, closing her eyes as she presses her lips against Tori's. She fully expects a negative reaction, expects to be shoved back and thrown into the crowd.
What she does not expect, however, is Tori to kiss her back.
Yet that's exactly what happens. Tori kisses her back, and it's perfect. It's some fairytale, magical bullshit, and Jade thinks that she's finally starting to see the appeal of magic. Tori's free hand rests on the back of her neck, and it stays there until Jade pulls back, pulling Tori to her feet while she's at it. They stare at each other for a long time, long enough to make her heart hurt and her mind start to spin, but eventually, Tori smiles at her. It's not her cocky grin that she's been flashing Jade with this entire night. It's her soft, gentle smile that makes Jade's heart melt. It's that stupidly kind smile that Jade fell for.
"Romantic!" Tori calls out over the crowd, and Jade laughs, ducking her head. It's not a rejection, it's not a yes, it's not a tell to anything, and it drives her wild. Suddenly, Tori's hands are on either side of her face, and she's being drawn into another kiss, which she thinks is definitely a tell, hopes that it is. She hears the roar of applause and cheering around them, and very quickly remembers that there are other people around, hundreds of them, all of whom have just seen her and Tori Vega kiss.
Really, it could be a lot worse.
The roaring and cheering only get louder when Tori pulls back, grinning at her, and Jade grabs her again. She doesn't know why she does it, maybe it's the deeply rooted urge to perform, but she does, and that's really all that's important. Tori kisses her back, and they're moving apart from each other within seconds, looking at each other, and Jade has to resist the urge to kiss Tori again, more so than usual.
"We got caught," Jade tells her, ignoring the way that it feels like everyone is staring at them. "Come over to my place after this?"
"How about we go to your place now?"
Jade laughs, raising an eyebrow at Tori, still buzzing from the kiss, from the three kisses. Adrenaline rushes through her body, and she briefly wonders if she should kiss Tori again, if she should dip her, if she should scream at everyone to stop looking at them, if she should scream that she kissed Tori Vega and you didn't.
"People will talk."
Tori grins at her, reaching out to cup the side of Jade's face. "They already do. What's one more rumour?"
That's enough to convince her, and Jade is already pulling Tori throughout the crowd, pushing past people who whoop at the two of them and offer them their congratulations, which only makes Jade realize that they're going to have to talk about what they are and what this means, if it means anything, which she really hopes it does. But that's a problem for twenty minutes from now, that's a problem her future self can deal with when it comes to it.
For now, she just wraps an arm around Tori's back and drags her closer, kissing her one more time before they manage to make their way out into the parking lot and into Jade's car. They're mostly silent on the way to Jade's house, but she doesn't mind all that much - the silence is comfortable, welcoming. When they get to Jade's house and out of the car, Jade finds herself being pinned against her door, Tori's lips on hers once again.
"I've really wanted to do that for a really long time."
"How long?" Jade whispers, breathless as Tori moves back. "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours."
Tori laughs, her face flushed. Jade doubts that she's any less red. "Is it weird to say ever since you poured coffee over my head?"
"I don't think so," Jade grins back at her, heart pounding in her chest. It's loud, loud to the point where she can barely hear herself think, but that's not really important; what's important is Tori, and Tori is standing right in front of her, right there, beautiful and unwavering. "Same for me. I think I like you."
"You think?"
Jade sighs, but she can't fight back the smile that works its way onto her face. "I know."
"Good," Tori breathes out, her eyes suddenly lightly up. "Because I know I like you, too."
"I'm going to fuck this up at some point," Jade warns her. "I always do."
"We'll work on it if it happens," Tori tells her. "I always move too fast. I'm probably going to do something stupid to make you have second thoughts."
Jade smiles. "We're kind of fucking idiots," she decides, managing to fumble her house key out of her jacket pocket. "I don't think I could have second thoughts when it comes to you, Vega. I've been pretty damn sure about this for the better half of a year."
Tori grins back at her, making her way into Jade's house with ease. Jade follows, locking the door behind them. "Good. Everyone is going to be talking about it."
"Unimportant," Jade waves a hand. "What's one more rumour?" She grins, echoing Tori's words from before. "Come on, Vega. Let's decide what we are so we can correct them so they can at least spread some truth."
Jade went into Prome thinking that it was the stupidest thing in the entire world, pissed that she had to cancel her performance for it.
As fate seems to have it, she comes out of Prome with a girlfriend.
And really, what more could she ask for?
