The Pont des Arts bridge in Paris is a ideal place for a dead-drop. Hundreds of love-locks are attached to its railings. The authorities remove them but lovers persist in attaching them. Lovers and tourists walk along the bridge examining the locks. Where else better to hide a usb drive where a spy can pick it up?
Ian Rider sauntered along looking for the right lock. He found the one marked with 'YG'. He took his lock, marked 'IR', and attached it to the first. He moved on. Let the security services make of that what they may.
