day 5 of my Return To School drabble collection!

Notes:

thanks to Alex for beta reading this one!
this one's small but sweet. MiriTama is one of my favorite ships (I'm surprised I haven't written a MiriTama or ShouToko oneshot yet!)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Tamaki glanced nervously at the clock. Only twenty minutes to go before they had to go talk to Class 1-A, and he could feel his anxiety start to creep in.

A piece of paper fell by his foot. Confused, Tamaki picked it up and opened the note.

You look nervous! Are you okay, sunshine?

A note from Mirio, of course. Trying to control the shaking in his hands, Tamaki wrote his reply below Mirio's words,

Just worried about talking to 1-A.

Glancing around for a messenger before seeing Nejire's hand, palm up and held low as to not catch the teacher's attention, Tamaki handed it to her.

A minute later, another note made its way into his hands.

It's going to be alright! You don't have to say much if you don't want to. Just focus on me!

The blue-haired boy sighed, scribbling a response despite his anxiety.

thank you

Seventeen minutes now, and then he'd have to talk. Actually talk, in front of people. In front of people he didn't know. Who were new and were going to judge him and-

Nejire nudged his arm, handing him another note.

Just breathe, okay? No one's going to force you to speak. No one going to judge you. Remember how awesome the Big Three were when we were first years? One of them barely spoke too! It's going to be alright.

Tamaki took a deep breath, the one he had practiced countless times. In for four, hold for three, out for four, rereading the note until his hands stopped shaking so he could write his response.

i think i'll be alright.
