Nico and Will were walking in the cold streets of San Francisco, eating ice cream they bought in a stand. Will had been working a lot more than usual as he was supposed to finish his neurosurgery residency and at the same time his cardio fellowship that his head of surgery offered to him before having his board exams which were a week ago. It was the first time in almost a month that they could spend the night together without pagers going off, or Nico having to write on his dissertation, or either of them having a nervous breakdown from exhaustion.
"Can I ask you something?" Will asked as they sat on a bench.
“Sure, what’s up?”
"I've been thinking lately about all we’ve been through. We fought in a lot of battles together and spent a lot of time together. We are staying together which is amazing. But I was wondering.” He locked eye contact with Nico “If you would like to spend all the future adventures of life with me. I know it is cheesy as hell but I kind of really love you and I really cannot imagine anyone else to spend the rest of my life. I mean…” Nico was Will’s person and the only one who knew him better than he knew himself. But it was hard to tell him all that tacky romantic stuff as the words couldn’t express his feelings. “You are not just my boyfriend. You are my best friend. I just- “
Nico interrupted him. "I’ve been thinking the same thing too."
“You-you have?” Will thanked the Gods that he didn’t react awkwardly or didn’t understand what he was talking about. Nico’s support meant everything to him. And him reacting this way was relieving.
“Yes, of course, I have. We have been dating for like what? Nine-ish years? I thought of how it would go on.” Nico paused and smiled slightly. “I think we should go one step further. Do you want to be each other’s significant annoyances for however long we can stand our faces?” Nico smiled.
“Only if you want, we are in this together.” Will chuckled.
“I want to.”
“Then I want to be your significant annoyance” The two of them kissed. That is how happiness feels. That is how pure happiness warms up your entirety. Happiness is when you are with your special person and the time doesn’t matter. You only want to be with your person for as long as you possibly can.
The next morning Hazel back from UCLA for the weekend. She would stay at Will and Nico’s apartment since Frank was out of the city for a couple weeks. Hazel arrived at 3 am so Nico didn’t get to talk to her about him and Will getting married.
When she woke up around 9 am, Will, Nico and Reyna were in the kitchen. She quickly dressed up and went to the kitchen. “Good morning.”
“Here I made coffee.” Nico handed her a mug of hot caramel latte.
“Thanks.” She took a big sip out of her mug.
“Hazel, Will and I want to tell you something. We’re getting married.” Nico announced to his sister.
“That’s amazing. Congratulations.” She hugged both of them. “Have you thought of any dates?”
“Actually…” Will turned to Nico to make sure it was okay to tell her “We are thinking of getting married today.” Will said.
“Why are you rushing so much?” Everything was coming too fast to Hazel.
“We think that there is no good reason to wait? We love each other and we don’t want to do anything extravagant. And neither of us is working today or might work.” Hazel was more than shocked. Will and Nico were impulsive but not that amount spontaneous. But she gives them the fact that they couldn’t wait any longer. She could see how much they loved each other.
“Great idea. You should do it. And I’ll be right there cheering for you.” Hazel smiled.
“Best man, are you ready to go?” Nico turned to Reyna who just finished her coffee.
“Sure, Let’s go.”
