Triss had never really thought much about her own gender before she met Yennefer. As a child, she had worn dresses because it had been expected, picked flowers simply because she thought they were pretty, played with dolls because those were the toys that she had. At the time, she would have said that she did those things because she was a girl, and that was what girls did. Even more recently, but before meeting Yen, she would have said that she did those things because that was how her mother had raised her, and regardless of that, she was a girl. Now...well. Meeting Yennefer had changed a lot of things.
Triss looked at herself in the mirror, twisting from side to side to admire her outfit from all angles. The jacket was long, ending at her ankles, and it was a shimmering blue colour. It sparkled when it caught the light and Triss smiled giddily. It was exactly what she had asked for- something striking but not too ostentatious. The trousers she wore were the same colour, though without the shimmer, cut to hide rather than accentuate the curves of her body for once. Turning again to look at them, Triss found that she quite liked this new style. Yennefer certainly would, she thought with a smirk.
Finally, she looked up at her shirt- plain, white, unobtrusive- and then at her face. Her chestnut curls had been tied back, leaving only a few free to frame her face. Like this it looked almost as if she had cut it all off. Her face looked more angular somehow without the curls surrounding it to soften the sharp line of her jaw. She tilted her head to the side, pondering. Much as she loved her usual gowns, something about this less feminine style felt… comfortable. Like coming home.
“Yes, that’s certainly different,” came a voice from behind her. Triss giggled, a peal of musical laughter filling the air, and turned to face her. Yennefer was stood behind her, wearing her customary black and white clothing, arms crossed over her chest. She had chosen a black dress with a long slit up the thigh, and Triss couldn’t stop herself from staring at the exposed skin. She swallowed and forced her gaze back upwards to her girlfriend’s face.
“Thank you for picking this out for me, Yen,” Triss said with an almost shy smile. “It… it’s perfect,” she sniffed, suddenly feeling overwhelmed. “I- I don’t know, I know that presentation isn’t the same as how I feel , but this fits better. It’s not entirely feminine, but not entirely not, either. It’s like me,”
Yennefer smiled at her and leant down to press a tender kiss to Triss’ lips. “You look beautiful, darling. I’m glad that you feel it, too.” She took Triss’ hand in hers and rubbed her thumb across the back of Triss’ hand. “Shall we go out then? We wouldn’t want to keep the others waiting,”
Triss nodded. She fiddled with her hair nervously, and gripped Yennefer’s hand as hard as she could.
“And you’re sure they won’t think badly of me for this?”
Yennefer shook her head, her expression fierce. “They wouldn’t, they understand. But if any of them dared, I’d have them out in the blink of an eye,” she pressed a kiss to the top of Triss’ head, “nobody gets to hurt my partner like that without suffering the consequences,”
Triss laughed, delighted. “Well then, partner, let’s go,” she said, and strode towards the door.
