Work Text:
Zack laughed, and you playfully pushed him, shoving your hand against his strong bicep. Noticing the way you lingered on the touch, he returned to his teasing.
“If you like me that much, you should just tell me” He grinned, winking an eye at you to let you know he wasn’t completely serious, even if you kind of wish he were. “You don’t need to do that”
“I was just telling you about my new outfit!” You defended yourself, refusing to admit you were wearing it to impress him, knowing you were meeting. “I only asked if you liked it”
“And I said you look gorgeous” Zack repeated, nudging you a little. “Oh, yeah, that’s when you blushed”
“Shut up” You averted your gaze, hating to feel your cheeks burning again.
Zack pursed his lips together, in what you knew was an attempt to stop himself from laughing again. The fun was interrupted however, when you suddenly gasped.
“What is it?” He snapped, protectively taking your hand and worriedly glancing around. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s him…” You used your free hand to point at the other side of the street, to a young man you had recognized. “He won’t leave me alone”
“Did that guy bother you?”
“He keeps asking me out…” You subtly watched Zack, searching for any signs of jealousy. There was only a slight twitch in his eye. “And I’m not interested”
“Really? So you said no?”
“Yeah, and he keeps… oh, no, he’s coming!”
You hid behind Zack as the other guy approached the spot you were standing in. Dreading to face another tedious and embarrassing of his attempts, you tugged at your friend’s shirt.
“He’s gonna see me!” You urged him. “Please do something, Zack!”
“What do you want me to do?” He looked over his shoulder to you, and you saw a mild panic in his blue eyes, no doubt inspired by your own.
“I don’t know!” Insistent, you pulled at Zack until he was facing you. “Just do something, I don’t want him to see me and ask me-”
Before you knew it, Zack had silenced your nervous rambling. His eyes had trailed the guy as he neared you only for a few seconds before he acted. Being surprisingly gentle and careful for the impulsive and sudden movement, Zack pushed you against a wall and smashed his lips on yours.
Your mind emptied from thoughts for an eternal second. He was kissing you! Why was Zack kissing you?! But then you saw that guy walk past, completely unaware of your presence. Relieved once he was gone, you grew very aware of the situation you were in.
Zack was holding you against him, delicately pressing you against the wall behind you. His arms were around your frame and his lips were still on yours, even if he slowly dragged them away a second after.
It was only when Zack pulled away that you realized you were out of breath. Holding on to his shoulders, you locked eyes with him. You had noticed how beautiful his eyes were before, but upclose they looked breathtaking, seeming to hold galaxies in them.
He was staring at you too, mouth agape as he observed you. His hand tenderly curled up against your cheek. He seemed in a trance.
“Zack…” You uttered in a daze of your own. It seemed to snap him out of it.
“W-Well, mission accomplished” He chuckled, bashfully scratching his nape. “He left”
“You… kissed me…” Was all you could say.
“Yeah” Zack cleared his throat, crossing his arms over his chest as he tried to appear nonchalant. “Did you like it?”
“Zack!”
“Sorry! Sorry…” He said, becoming slightly calmer. “It’s honestly the first thing that came to mind”
“I mean, it worked…” You said, still not leaning away from the wall. Zack grinned at you, but not in that playful smug way from before. Now it was a genuine and sweet smile.
“So you liked it?” He asked, his voice earnest and soft.
“Maybe…”
“If you want, I can do it again”
“Just in case he comes back”
Zack laughed, but didn’t lose one second in wrapping his arms around you again and passionately kissing you.
