Chapter Text
The Golden Guard didn't get much free-time, but when he did, Belos still preferred that he spend it inside the castle. However, lately Hunter had slowly built up the courage to go against his uncle in the form of occasionally sneaking off to libraries to study wild magic and its history.
Dressed in a casual outfit made up of a yellow dress-shirt, and his usual pant and boots, he teleported nearby before carefully hiding his staff and approaching the large building by foot. Of course Hunter felt some anxiety from the chance of something happening while he was without the staff, plus the chance of him being caught sneaking away from the palace on top of that. But he tried to relax while browsing the lovely books on the nicely stocked shelves. He loved the peaceful atmosphere of the library, and the distinct smell of the old and new paper.
He was lost in his shopping for only a bit before his attention was suddenly directed to the sound of someone stifling back laughter.
Looking over his shoulder, peering through the shelfs, he only managed to catch the sight of two Highschoolers passing by the aisles, one shoving and shushing the other.
Feeling a sudden twinge of anxiety, he soon finished picking out two promising novels, and proceeded to the checkout.
"Excuse me," someone approached him, "I don't think I've seen you around before, do you go to Glandus?" Asked a boy with forest green hair. One of the kids he saw earlier.
Hunter hesitated to respond "um, no."
The guy rubbed the back of his neck, "Oh, that's odd" he eyed the books the blonde carried, "Hm, wild magic history huh? I only know like, one other person who's into that kinda stuff" he smiled, obviously trying to start small talk, "my name's Edric by the way, I sorta come here all the time. Are you new in town?"
Slightly nervous, and not really listening, Hunter responded hastily, "No not really.", he glanced around aimlessly. Why was this guy bothering him?
"Nice to meet you, but I really have to get going. I'm uh- Late for dinner, ya know the deal" He began to step away.
The boy stopped him, "Oh!- well, could I maybe get your scroll number then?" He asked nicely, fidgeting with his hands while looking Hunter in the eye.
"Then we could just talk some other time!"
Taken quite aback by the stranger's offer, Hunter took a second to think. Of course he shouldn't give out his number, he wasn't even supposed to be here, and it's not like he could go off making friends right now, that was ridiculous.. 'Hey Emperor Belos, can I, the Golden Guard, go slack off at the movies tonight with some random kid who can't find out who I am'?
Great, now he had to awkwardly reject this guy. Of course it's not like Hunter was interested in the first place- ..but... the better thing to do would be to just give him the number anyway, and then simply never reply. Of course, it was genius, then he'd leave him alone, while also sparing Hunter the drama. It's not like he wanted to do it.
So Edric happily entered Hunter's number into his device.
"Awesome, so I guess I'll talk to ya later," He beamed a toothy smile, "have a nice dinner," he gave Hunter a wink before parting ways. Hunter watched him go meet with what appeared to be a sister, who was waiting and watching from nearby.
-
Later that night, Hunter had finished some of his new book, along with some juice for his 'dinner'. Out of curiosity, he checked his scroll, but found no messages yet. Good, maybe he wouldn't even have to block him.
Damn it, but what if he saw him at the library again? Hunter groaned at the thought of having to disguise himself or something else so bothersome, but didn't get to worry much longer once he was summoned for late-night guard duty.
-
Waking up late in the afternoon after only a two hour nap, Hunter got up and scrubbed his face clean, then while dressing himself, he heard a buzzing from his desk. Sure enough, there was the first text from the library boy.
"What the hell.." He said under his breath.
Just when his pale face couldn't appear any more tired, (but now slightly flushed), here it was, glaring down at the cheesiest poem he had ever seen.
He supposed he couldn't simply block or ignore this Edric guy after all. With a quiet snicker to himself, he wrote a response.
(-Library cutey-) 'This is his mother. I don't know who you think you are, but I will not be allowing him to associate with the likes of you. Do not text this number again'
Welp, that should end this little situation. He wondered why that type of person ever approached him in the first place, a guy whose face looked like a toddler who just fell down a flight of stairs.
-
After a few days passed, Hunter was surprised to have received another message.
(-Unknown-) 'Hey man, do you have your scroll back? So sorry that your mom saw that text haha 💀🏃'
Silently he stared at it, no idea what the hell those images at the end meant, but Hunter wondered why in the hell he was still trying to talk to him.
Giving into a slight curiosity, he decided to finally reply.
(-Library cutey-) 'No worries. Sorry for the trouble'
.
.
(-Library cutey-) 'So when did you want to meet up again?'
