Work Text:
The first thing Okumura Eiji fell in love with were Ash’s eyes.
A sharp, electrifying green, they were the complete opposite of Eiji’s own gaze, dark as night. Ash’s eyes gave away more emotion than any other part of him, and Eiji became attuned to when they lit up in rare, genuine happiness or darkened in strong, hidden emotion.
Eiji hated to see Ash cry. It was rare, but when he did, those eyes, they were a storm. Beautiful and devastating, haunting and heart-wrenching. Eyes were the window to the soul, and Ash’s eyes screamed a thousand emotions when his lips wouldn’t speak a single word. He tried to hide it, but Eiji could read him like a book through those eyes alone.
When they first met, Ash’s eyes were assessing and analytical as they looked Eiji over. When Skip introduced them, Eiji nearly stumbled, for he couldn’t look away from Ash’s eyes, looking at him in a way that made his breath stutter, and with a smirk to match.
Their first kiss was one of technicality. When Ash kissed him, really kissed him, for the first time, gently cupping Eiji’s face and tilting it upwards, Eiji watched those pretty eyes flutter shut as the boy leaned into him with a sigh, pink lips soft against his own. They were alone together in a rare moment of peace, Dino and drugs and gangs forgotten, not a care in the world. After Ash pulls away, their lips gently parting, he looks at Eiji with half-lidded eyes, filled with yearning and smugness and wonder. Eiji could only smile and pull Ash in for another sweet kiss, excited and terrified at what this step in their relationship would mean. And, Ash goes willingly.
When they shared a bed together for the first time, Eiji marveled at how quickly Ash could fall asleep. Those eyes fluttered shut, eyelids pale and eyelashes long and beautiful, and the rest of his body following suit as he succumbed to slumber. Later, when Ash woke, crying out due to nightmare, those eyes were wide and tear-filled and frantic. But, it was all right, because Eiji was there, and he fluttered kissed over Ash’s face like rain, over his cheeks and nose and eyelids and forehead. When Ash would open those eyes again, they were calm. Calm, and perhaps the softest Eiji had ever seen.
Those eyes were beautiful.
Like a storm, like the most luscious evergreens, like the Jade he was named for.
The only time Eiji ever hated those eyes.
Was the day they closed for the last time.
