Ash sat in his usual corner of the dingy old bar that was illuminated by lights that casted a soft yellow glow over the place. He rested his elbows on the table, one hand loosely wrapped around the glass of Scotch he was nursing as he waited for Shorter to realize the girl he was trying to woo into going home with him was utterly and absolutely disinterested in him.
Averting his gaze from his best friend, his eyes now flickered over to the figure that sat at the counter, not for the first time tonight. Strands of black hair swayed rhythmically as the figure moved, giving off a glimpse of snow kissed cherry cheeks and milky smooth skin that disappeared beneath a deep red cashmere sweater.
All soft edges.
There was a new face at the bar.

Of course, Eiji opens the office door out into the living room right at that moment, and Ash has to hold himself back from facepalming. He definitely heard Kong's blood comment, didn't he?
Bones squawks. "Uh, you know—like his blood when you killed him! With your gun. His metaphorical blood. His figurative blood."
Eiji snorts, bringing his hand up to his mouth to hide a laugh. Ah, fuck. They're so screwed. "You're not very good at this whole thing," Eiji says. "Why are you even trying?"
"Listen, Eiji ..." Alex starts, but Ash holds up a hand. If it's over, it's over. Oh well. Maybe Eiji will finally go back to Japan. But then—
"You know, you are not going to convince me that you're a vampire," Eiji deadpans.
... What.
Ash is a vampire. No, like, he actually is. For real. No, Eiji, he's not just goth!
