Chapter Text
OOC- Semi Based on the K-drama Hotel del Luna(which I just finished and enjoyed!) Adjustments made to fit my needs- be kind!
Still in the works(Hope to stayed inspired. Don't be disappointed if I don't.)
Prep for Rin Harem.
Morning sunlight drifted through large stained glass windows casting the office in soft comforting colored hues. The antique furniture adorned the lavish room was worn but well kept, looking as if was from another era. It's pale walls held tasteful art of the old world artisans. Soft classical music played in the background adding a sense of eternalness to the room. If anything, it seemed as though the room was too big and yet somehow too small all at the same time. Old and yet young. In such a room sat two occupants. Similar but yet so very different. One moving and one very much not.
"Well, your paperwork is in order."
A woman with long dark hair cascading over her shoulders and deep blue eyes said as she looked at the paper on the desk in front of her. Tapping a perfectly manicured finger on the paper, Tohsaka Rin looked up at the person who sat in front of her.
Well, person might be a stretch.
A ghost sat in front of her and while correct that didn't quite fit.
No...
Perhaps the best description was this: the soul of a dead woman sat before her(in the shape of a ghost; of course)
Grey, pale and bereft of any other color-barefoot in a plain white dress.
"I was a policewoman."
That probably explained the grey gunshot wound to the head.
"Yes, I see that...an unblemished record though..." Rin nodded as she adjusted her glasses to look at the paper again. "...We can probably arrange transport to the afterlife as early as this afternoon."
The ghost-grey and pale looked at her with flat dead eyes. She bowed her head to look at her hands as the soothing sounds of violins filled the room. Rin fought the urge to sigh. Rin titled her head to admire her manicure as she waited for the ghost to digest her words. Many ghosts needed a moment when faced with the sudden reality of their death and subsequent journey to the afterlife. It wasn't uncommon. Sometimes death was just harder for some than others. Not that Rin would really know. She wasn't like the ghosts or spirits that found their way to her hotel. She wasn't really dead in the same way the ghost in front of her was but then again it wasn't like she wasn't alive either.
"No."
Rin shifted her gaze from her glossy black nails to the ghost.
"No?"
"No..." The ghost looked back up at Rin with eyes suddenly fierce "...Not like this. I can't leave like this."
"Many people feel that way when they come through here.." Rin replied as she clasped her hands on her desk. "Of course, if you need to take a few days to rest before moving on. You are more than welcome too."
The ghost shook her head at Rin's words.
"I don't want to rest. I was a cop..." the ghost explained. "..I always knew dying was a risk. But I was undercover when I died. My cover was blown."
Rin flipped a few papers and confirmed the cause of death on the paperwork was listed as murder.
"Please, tell me how can we help you?" Rin asked before adding. "Note that we cannot take a human life on your behalf."
The ghost whose eyes which had been flat and grey was now tinged with specks of brown shook her head adamantly.
"I don't want to kill him."
Rin raised an eyebrow before speaking.
"....We can torment him a bit if you'd life but bear in mind that is a technically considered a sin. You are currently entitled to a better life." Rin continued."...but to do such things will affect your next life negatively. Please think it over carefully."
"The man that led to my death hasn't been caught. The evidence that I collected hasn't been found yet...what I want is..." the ghost trailed off and bowed her head again.
Rin waited.
.And waited.
..And waited.
Sometimes ghosts needs more than a moment to articulate when they really wanted. Hopefully this ghost wouldn't take too long. She mentally shuddered thinking back to the hours she had spent once waiting for a ghost to speak. He kept opening and closing him mouth that day but not speaking. That had been a very trying day. Rin's thoughts shifted as her gaze went back to her nails.
Hm..maybe red for her next manicure? It would look really nice with the new outfit she had recently brought. Or maybe a nice blue to match her eyes?
"...Justice."
Rin slid her attention back to the ghost- not surprised in the least at her answer. Revenge and justice were some of the top answers ghosts gave when asked. Though if you asked Rin, she'd say there was a razor thin line between the two but then again what did she know? She hadn't been granted either. Nonetheless, wording was also very important here. The Grim Reaper and the various annoying deities that popped in were quite the stickler about that(at least when they wanted to be). Revenge was a stain even in death. Justice on the other hand was honorable.
"..Ah, so dedicated even in death. Very commendable."
The ghost lifted her chin in agreement.
"...We may be able to help of of course.." Rin said through lowered lashes, a smile forming on her lips. "..Unfortunately, for any services performed, in the living world must be paid by the same means."
The ghost eyed Rin sharp look at the implication. After all, she had been a cop when she was alive but just in case- Rin wanted to spell it out; more or less.
".....do you have anything like that..?...Perhaps something hidden? An emergency fund? Gold?" Rin said pleasantly poising her pen ready to take notes. "..Gems?"
The ghost who was once completely a washed out grey was now filled with color. The memory of her death less prominent now. Wasn't the only thing she kept reliving. Now, the ghost remembered. And with that came a sense of clarity. Of what she needed to move on. And because of that clarity - gone was the plain white dress, now the ghost was dressed in the police uniform she had most likely been buried in. Light brown hair and fierce brown eyes washed away the grey. Rin almost sighed at the work she'd probably have to do. But she supposed they were more interesting than the happy souls that came through the hotel. Those were easy. They just needed a few days of rest before crossing over with the Grim Reaper. Minimal fuss. Those types of souls made her work day generally short. And boring. But then again...the sad, angry, hurt, lonely ones had other things to offer. Things that Rin was much more interested in.
The ghost looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding curtly. Smiling shrewdly, Rin flipped her hair over her shoulder, blue eyes shining.
"..Again, please tell me how can we help you?"
oh Rin.
*waves and slinks away*
