Pit Hound

Work Text:

What was that noise Sarah thought, turning off the shower to hear better. It sounds like the tap of claws on a tile. It was almost midnight and she had just gotten back from eating at a restaurant. Sarah was sure she had locked her front door as soon as she came into her apartment. It must have been my imagination she reassured herself but I should check just in case.
Sarah was a cop and had been on edge the past few weeks. People had reported seeing what they could only describe as a hellhound stalking the streets. But hellhounds aren’t real; it must be a pitbull or just people being paranoid. Yet there had been several buried bodies discovered that looked like they had been mauled by some large creature with burn marks on there body.
With a million thoughts racing through her mind Sarah stepped out of the shower, put on her robe, and slowly opened the bathroom door. She walked around her apartment but something felt off despite her not finding anything out of the ordinary. As Sarah walked back to the bathroom the floor suddenly disappeared causing her to fall into a dark abyss of nothingness.
When she reached the bottom after what felt like hours of falling Sarah found she couldn’t move. That’s when she saw red glowing eyes like the dying embers of a campfire staring back at her from the darkness. As the creature came closer the darkness faded and Sarah saw where she was a dog fighting ring that was covered in blood though it smelled like a meadow full of flowers. Sarah tried to move away even more but she couldn’t and then she saw what the creature was. It resembled a grey and white pitbull if it took an explosion to the face, it’s head was mostly skull and it had spikes along it’s back that resembled shattered bone.
“The blood of the innocent is on your hands,” comes a sweet but menacing voice that seems to come from not only the dog but from every corner of the earth.
“What do you mean,” was Sarah’s trembling cry as more blood filled the room.
“The blood of the innocent is on your hands,” the dog answered, putting one of it’s paws on her throat.
The dog then slowly started slitting Sarah’s throat with one of its claws which was longer and sharper than any dog that Sarah had ever met. As this was going on Sarah screamed out which only made the pain worse as the dog set it’s claws on fire. Sarah tried moving again but she found she could only move a few inches as her world faded to black.
Sarah's neighbor ran over as soon as she heard her screams and ran over right away to her apartment where the front door was shattered. Upon opening the door of the bathroom she screamed and called 9-1-1 immediately. It had only been 15 minutes since Sarah had entered her apartment. When the cops arrived they saw their colleague in a flooded bathroom covered in blood with no evidence of her killer, not even a single dog hair.
