Work Text:
Keigo hated cold weather. He didn’t know if it had something to do with his bird-like tenancies but he could not stand the cold. It was miserable to him. It was one of the reasons his hero costume was so warm. Even with the warm clothes, the second the weather dipped below seventy all he wanted to do was stay in bed in a warm place.
Fall was here and with that the cold weather. It had been raining all day and it was freezing. Of course, it was a day that Keigo had to patrol all day. Perched on the edge of a building he shook his wings sending water droplets flying. All he wanted was to be bundled up and under a warm blanket at this point. The cold had seeped into his bones, he doubted that even a hot shower would warm him up at this point.
After what felt like an eternity he was finally off work and couldn’t wait to get home to see you. He knew you would take pity on him and baby him after he walked into your shared house soaked.
The TV was on and you were sat on the couch scrolling aimlessly on your phone. You looked up from your phone to see him standing there soaking wet.
“Oh Kei,” You said standing up. “You’re soaking wet, be careful don’t slip.”
“I’m freezing.” He whined.
“C’mon let’s get you in a warm bath.” You said.
It hadn’t taken you long to realize how much Keigo hated the cold. Granted given all the clues you probably should have put it together sooner. I mean look at his hero costume, who wears a fur coat during summer?
For a while, you just thought he was one of those people who didn’t like cold but when you were walking through the park during winter one day you made the connection. You had been sitting on a park bench with Keigo, he was bundled up in a big coat with a scarf and beanie. His face was barely visible through all of his attempts at keeping warm. A small bird had landed on the bench next to him, it got comfortable fluffing up its feathers in an attempt to stay warm.
You glanced at the bird then back to Keigo. His wings were fluffed up the exact same way the small bird had fluffed up to stay warm. You let out a laugh at the resemblance.
“What?” He asked unsure of where your laughter was coming from.
“You have a friend there.” You pointed out. “It seems you both hate this weather.” He looked over at the bird before looking back.
“He doesn’t have a choice to be out here, I do.” He complained.
“And you were nice enough to indulge me and my want to take a walk through a snowy park.” You said pinching his cheek. “You're a good boyfriend. C’mon, let’s warm you up.” You said standing up and taking his gloved hand in yours before taking him home.
When you saw Keigo walk in looking like a kicked puppy, soaked in rainwater you knew he needed some taking care of.
First, you drew him a bath, making sure to throw in some bath salt and eucalyptus to make it even more soothing. You took his clothes and threw them in the wash before heating up some soup you had made the night before. You always loved to make homemade soup when it was gloomy out. Then you threw some clothes for him in the dryer so they would be warm when he was done in the bath.
Once you had that ready you went back to the bathroom. Keigo sat in the tub completely relaxed. The steam rose from the hot water lifting the scent of the eucalyptus. You sat down next to the large tub, you put your hand in the water warming it up before you took his shoulder in your hand.
Keigo opened his eyes giving you a warm smile at your presence.
“Warming up?” You asked.
“Starting to.” He hummed.
“Turn around, face you back to me.” You said. He followed your words, leaning his back against the edge of the tub facing you. His wings adjusted taking their place on each side of you.
You placed your hands on his shoulders rubbing at his tense muscles.
“How was your day?” You asked.
“Terrible.” He sighed leaning into your touch. “I’ve been outside all day, it’s freezing. My clothes have been soaked since I stepped outside.”
“I’m sorry, pretty bird.” You said moving your massage down to his shoulder blades. When you rubbed at the muscles around his wings he let out a hum of approval. “I have soup warming up, we can get into bed when you’re done in here.”
“That sounds perfect, I’m exhausted.” He sighed. You massaged his back until you felt you got most of the knots out and by the end, he was nearly boneless he was so relaxed.
“Okay, let me grab you some clothes.” You said. You went to the laundry room to grab his clothes out. There was a surprise for him, you had been working on knitting him a sweater. You were hardly a pro at knitting but you knew how cold he got and thought it would be a good hobby and you could make him stuff to keep him warm.
Keigo put on the sweats you gave him before you handed him the sweater.
“What’s this?” He asked realizing he hadn’t seen this sweater before. It was beige with red and navy lines running horizontal across the chest.
“I made it.” You said.
“You made this?” He asked looking at you with big eyes.
“Yeah.” You confirmed.
“Seriously?” He said. “That’s amazing!” Keigo nearly crushed you in a hug, the sweater still in his hand. You hugged him back laughing at his excitement. His bare skin was hot against you from the hot bathwater. “Thank you so much!”
“You’re welcome, I know how cold you get. I put a lining in there to keep you extra warm.”
“Thank you, baby.” He said throwing the sweater on. “This is amazing, it’s so soft. I love it.”
“C’mon, get in bed I’ll bring you dinner.” You said tugging his hand towards your bedroom.
“I love you so much.” He sighed.
“I love you too, birdie.” You smiled.
After Keigo had eaten you cleared your dishes from your room. When you returned you saw Keigo sitting in the middle of your big bed bundled in blankets. You smiled at him, he was so cute. You crawled into bed with him.
“Am I permitted into the blanket kingdom?” You asked him, right now curling up with your boyfriend sounded like perfection. You couldn’t sleep without his arms around you.
“Hmm, I have a better idea.” He said eying the large hoodie you had on. You didn’t realize what he was up to soon enough, you didn’t have enough time to defend yourself.
Keigo nearly tackled you into your mattress grabbing at the edge of your hoodie he shoved himself into your hoodie with you. The garment was so spacious it left enough room for you and Keigo to fit in it. You had nearly passed out from laughing the first time he attempted this. Ever since it was something he would do when he was cold enough or just in the mood to be cheeky.
“Kei-” You whined as his head popped out of the neck hole. His face was inches away from yours.
“You’re being greedy, look at all this space in here.” He said. “I nearly froze to death today, do you have any sympathy?” He teased.
“I think I showed you more than sympathy in babying you tonight.” You countered.
“You do go above and beyond.” He agreed. “But is it really so bad having me this close?”
“I haven’t decided.” You said.
Keigo smirked and pressed a kiss against your nose.
“What about now?” He asked.
“I don’t know.” You said stubbornly. His eyes narrowed and he pressed a kiss to your cheek.
“Now?” He asked. You made an unsure noise. He kissed your forehead and gave an expecting look.
“Not convinced.” You said.
Keigo proceeded to press kisses all over your face.
“How about now?” He asked.
“You could do a better job at this.” You said.
Keigo pressed his lips against yours in a slow but passionate kiss before looking at you with a question in his eyes.
“Alright, I’m convinced.” You said. The two of you laughed.
Keigo wrapped his arms around your waist in the hoodie, the two of you laying on your sides. His wings stuck out awkwardly but he didn’t seem to mind. You talked more about your day and random things that came to mind.
It didn’t take long for the two of you to drift off to sleep curled up in your hoodie together, your face pressed into his neck. It would be worth the soreness in your neck when you woke up tomorrow.
