“Alfred, do you know where Bruce is?” Y/N asked when she entered the kitchen. Alfred was preparing a tray of tea and biscuits, pouring the boiling water into the teapot, his glasses steaming up slightly.
“I believe he’s in the cave, Ms Y/N,” he replied as he removed the teabag from the pot and wrung it out. “He’s planning some mad scheme with Ms Prince.”
Ms Prince. Just hearing her name set Y/N’s teeth on edge. She didn’t want to seem jealous, but Alfred could read anyone whether they were an open book or not.
“You don’t need to worry about them, Ms Y/N,” Alfred said, bringing her out of her thoughts. “Master Bruce wouldn’t even dream of leaving you.”
“I hope not,” Y/N said with a sigh as she followed him into the cave.
It was always cold in the cave, but recently it felt even colder to Y/N. She knew that the league was important, but Bruce was spending almost every waking moment with Diana. She didn’t want to hate Diana, but she couldn’t help but feel inferior next to the Amazonian with her perfect everything. Bruce was perfect to her too, so it seemed as if they were perfect for each other.
Y/N followed Alfred out of the elevator and into the cave, trailing behind him like a baby chick while her stomach churned at the sight of Bruce and Diana sitting at the computer together. Alfred placed the tea tray on a small table just behind the two, the fine china cups clinking together and prompting Diana to turn around while Bruce’s attention stayed on the computer screen.
“Thank you, Alfred,” she said with a smile before turning her attention to Y/N. “Oh, I don’t believe we’ve been introduced, you must be Y/N.”
Y/N tentatively took Diana’s outstretched hand and shook it.
“Nice to meet you,” Y/N said unconvincingly, causing Diana’s smile to falter a little.
“Nice to meet you too,” Diana said as she poured a cup of tea for herself. “Bruce talks about you all the time, how do you know each other?”
“She’s my partner,” Bruce said, finally turning his attention to Y/N and giving her a soft smile.
“Oh, like a business partner?” Diana asked, knowing what he actually meant.
“No, she’s my fiancée,” he responded as he stood up to make his own tea.
Diana’s face lit up and she instantly enveloped Y/N in a bone-crushing hug.<
“Congratulations! He never stops talking about you so I knew you had to be more than friends.”
Y/N felt her face start to heat up. She felt stupid for getting jealous over nothing. Alfred had told her that there was nothing going on between Bruce and Diana and, as usual, he was right. Bruce really did only have eyes for Y/N. Even when she was being bear-hugged by a supermodelesque Amazon, he was looking right at her, his Y/N, as if she’d hung the moon.
She heaved a sigh of relief and awkwardly hugged Diana back before she broke away to go drink her tea in front of the computer
“Hey, can I talk to you upstairs?” Bruce asked Y/N quietly. She nodded and the two of them left Alfred and Diana to chat in the cave.
“You’re jealous of Diana, aren’t you?” he said when they were back in the kitchen and out of earshot.
“How could you tell?” Y/N asked as she hopped up onto the counter, letting her legs swing over the side.
“Whenever you see another woman talking to me at an event, you get this look on your face,” Bruce said amusedly as he came to stand between her legs, wrapping his arms around her gently.
“Yeah but those are usually golddiggers who didn’t get the memo that we’re engaged,” Y/N said as she tucked her head into the crook of his neck, the scent of his expensive cologne filling her nose.
“So what’s different about Diana then?”
“I don’t know, you talk to her like she’s an actual person because she knows the real you. She knows that the vapid playboy thing is just an act.”
Bruce moved his hands from her waist to her face, moving her away from his shoulder so he could look at her properly.
“Y/N, just because Diana’s a good friend of mine doesn’t mean that I’m going to leave you for her. I’m with you because I love you and only you. Nobody else compares to you, okay?”
“You really mean that?” Y/N asked in a quiet voice, her eyes shining with tears that were ready to fall.
Bruce angled her face up slightly and closed the gap between them, kissing her tenderly and making her push her body closer into him.
“Does that answer your question?” he mumbled against her mouth when he pulled away from her.
“It does,” she breathed before diving in for another kiss, one more heated than before.
When they both needed to come back up for air, Y/N rested her head on Bruce’s shoulder again and hummed in pleasure when he traced circles on her back with his fingertips.
“Y’know, there’s another reason why you shouldn’t worry about Diana,” he said.
“What’s that?”
“She’s way too old for me.”
