“No! Absolutely not, Shoyo, no”
“Kags, come on” Hinata whines, clinging to his boyfriend’s arm.
“Hinata, you know how I feel about heights! Why did you even think this was a good idea? Why would you bring me here?” Kageyama exclaims, shaking Hinata off. He finds the nearest large boulder and latches on to it holding for dear life.
“Babe, it’s part of the hiking tour” Hinata explains, “I told you this”. He walks over to where Kageyama is nervously eyeing the wooden bridge that expands to the other side of the mountain, overlooking the river. He crouches down to be at eye level with him and smiles fondly.
“No, no you didn’t, because if you had then I wouldn’t have agreed to this”
“You know, you would think someone as tall as yourself would have no problem with heights,” Hinta muses leaning in to press a kiss to Kageyama’s cheek.
“Why couldn’t we just have a normal vacation, that didn’t involve hiking mountains and crossing dangerous bridges?” Kageyema grumbles, “you hiked a mountain every single day to reach your house for about half of your life”
“I just heard there’s a really beautiful clearing with a wonderful waterfall through here. I thought you would enjoy seeing it” Hinata tells him earnestly, he cradles his boyfriend’s face and rubs soothing circles on his cheeks.
He swallows nervously, feeling the weight of the engagement ring he bought months ago in the side of his pocket.
“I hate you so much,” Kageyama pouts and Hinata smiles thinking to himself, I can’t wait to make this man my husband.
Despite Kageyema’s pouting and reluctance, he still takes Hinata’s hands and rises from his crouched position. Hinata guides him forward, taking a few steps onto the bridge and Kageyama nearly whimpers when he sets foot on the bridge. Following his boyfriend, he takes a few tentative steps. Taking one look down into the river, he nearly makes a run for it once more. “I don’t think I can do this,” he laments.
Kageyama grips the sides of the bridge until his knuckles have turned white and nearly screams in frustration. He shuts his eyes and refuses to open them.
“Just take my hand” Hinata soothes, he manages to tear one of Kageyama’s hands off the rope and takes it in his. “I’ll guide you across, you don’t even have to open your eyes”
They begin taking small steps across the bridge, only slightly tripping over their feet a few times.
“Sorry, fuck —sorry!” Kageyama exclaims, having stepped on Hinata's shoes twice by now. It's taking them quite a while just to get across one measly bridge. By the third time Kageyama steps on Hinata, his shoe actually slips off, and he has to let go of him for a few seconds to slide it back on.
“Kags, quit crouching like that, oh my god” Hinata laughs, turning back to grab his boyfriend’s hand so they can carry on across the bridge.
“It helps me feel grounded,” Kageyama says, eyes still tightly shut as he blindly reaches out for Hinata. In the process, he accidentally grabs his crotch and Hinata yelps in surprise.
“YamaYama, on a bridge? Really?” he teases.
Kageyama groans at Hinata’s antics, opening his eyes to quickly throw a punch at him. That action causes the bridge to jostle a little and Kageyama’s first instinct is to back hug Hinata for protection.
He buries his face on the back of his neck and screams, “why are you making me do this?”
Hinata chuckles and says, “it’ll be worth it, I promise”
“It better be or else you’re not getting laid for the rest of this vacation” Kageyama warns.
“I hope the waterfall is as gorgeous as it is cracked to be then, a lot is hanging on the line here” Hinata grumbles.
Once they finally make it across the bridge, Kageyama buckles over, kneeling on the ground sending out thankful prayers and swearing to never do anything like that ever again.
Turns out, the waterfall was as gorgeous as people had painted it out to be, and in a few minutes it would become a very important part of Kageyama and Hinata's relationship.
