Work Text:

It was midnight, crickets chirped and chilly air went inside the windows of the small cottage of Fundy between the spruce forest and the mountains.

It was midnight again, huh?
he really can't get a good night's sleep, can't he? He hasn't slept for 48 hours.

His forehead was covered in cold sweat. He was shifting and turning in the bed, but Fundy just couldn't get comfortable. It was not really hot in the room and was rather cold. He isn’t even wearing warm clothes but just white t-shirt and berry printed pajama pants.

In that same bed with him is his antarctic fox hybrid son, Yogurt who was soundly and peacefully sleeping in the warm blanket he's tucked into.

Fundy sometimes envies his son for his ability to sleep without worries of getting into weird dreams where you can't tell whether everything is real or not.

His weird dreams could signify something though. Could be warnings, predictions or invitations to something unknown.

It's all very strange.

But his dreams are all so blurry and confusing to even remember them fully in his waking state.

He really can't get his eyes shut without feeling anxious of nightmares coming to him and not being able to wake up if he wants to these days, no matter what he does.

Waking up from his dreams are traumatizing, nothing has been good after he's been getting these nightmares.

He doesn't want to go into his sleeping state and wake up with overwhelming feelings without someone to comfort him.

There is Yogurt though, just by looking at his sweet son brings him comfort.

But he is but a child and he doesn't want his own troubles to get to his still little fox son.

No children should be burdened by their parents' problems. They're still learning about the world themselves.

Fundy stops his thoughts for a moment and looks at his son. He reaches his hand out to him and gently caresses Yogurt snowy white hair.

Yogurt can be a work. Sometimes when he looks away for a second, he'll be gone. Always running off somewhere when he sees a chicken or anything that interests his little fox mind.

Fundy yawns drowsily.

He swears to protect his son. He will protect him from experiencing trauma and he'll make sure he's there for him when Yogurt needs him.

Exhaustion creeps up again to Fundy but he always gets his eyes to open awake again because he's anxious, thoughts kept on pestering his mind and jolting him awake.

He's REALLY tired of this and wants to sleep but at the same time he doesn't want to.

Fundy's eyes are so heavy but they shoot open when he thinks he's going to fall asleep. He gets reminded of the feeling of being trapped in a dream.

The feeling of being trapped in strange yet familiar places, being not able to run away from anything, forced to go to places he doesn't want to, and people giving warnings.

It's all too much for him.

He thought that this was so bad for his health, sleep depriving himself. But he really can't help it.

The ginger's contemplation was cut short by something hitting a wood unexpectedly.

Fundy ignores it. It was probably just a woodpecker chipping through the spruce trees again.

The sound came again but this time Fundy recognized it was not a bird.

There was someone at his front door.

A person at a time like this? It's still midnight? No one knows that he moved here too. Who could ever be that?

Fundy got up carefully from the bed, trying not to wake up Yogurt.

He quietly took his axe from his chest and walked quietly out from the bedroom.

Trying to stay vigilant to his surroundings. Despite it being hard because of his sleep deprivation.

Another yawn came to him while he finally arrived at the said door.

"W-Who's there?" Fundy warily asked, waiting for the person to speak before opening his house to a stranger.

"It's me, Dream." the person answered.

Fundy was shocked at the reveal and swiftly swung the door open wide to look at the said man.

"Dream." Fundy exclaimed.

"Y-you're out of prison?" the ginger was shocked, stuttering.

Fundy stared wide-eyed at the porcelain white mask Dream was wearing then proceeded to examine his appearance.

Dream wears his hood up, mask on, hiding any of his facial features A few silver white strands of hair shown in front of his mask.

He still wears his signature lime green hoodie and his white pants as usual with his cloak on his figure.

Fundy stares at his white boots. It's chilly out here because it's midnight he thinks, maybe that's why he's wearing the cloak.

"–ndy?" The fox hybrid snapped out of his trance when he saw a hand waved on his face, he's so out of it and can't even focus.

It's really hard to keep his attention span because of the lack of sleep. Everything blurs when he stares.

"Fundy? Are you alright?" The masked man asked.

The ginger looked up to Dream and just stared at him.

Dream took the silence as his chance to explain why he's here.

"I came here to apologize." he admitted.

Dream looks back at Fundy to see his reaction. He noticed that his ears perked up, indicating that he's got the fox hybrid's attention.

"I'm sorry that I stood you up in our wedding." the white haired man continues.

Dream paused for a moment to construct his words in his head but was cut off when Fundy spoke.

"Is that all? You just came here to apologize?" Fundy assumed.

"N-no." Dream answered, stuttering.

The air was tense, it's suffocating. Dream words were all scrambled. This is a really nerve wracking situation for him and he should speak now or he'll never earn Fundy's forgiveness.

Fundy sighed, giving a strained look.

"There's one question I want you to answer honestly. And I mean, be true to your heart."

Dream stayed silent, nervously waiting for the bomb to drop.

"Do you still love George?"

"Listen, I want you to be really truthful to yourself and me so I'll know when I don't need to hold onto things that won't stay."

Dream's heart clenched at his words. He gulped and took a breath of air.

"I already gave up on George even before our wedding." the silver haired stated.

"I never felt more loved than anyone with you, Fundy." Dream stresses this sentence.

Dream sounded so genuine, Fundy wants to believe it is.

"You are the only person that I could ever imagine to be with in the future. Let me make it up to you and our son."

The walls finally broke on Fundy's end, tears welled up in his eyes. He tried to blink the tears away and wiped his face with the back of his hand but the waterworks were too strong and fell like a waterfall.

Dream frowned at the sight. He doesn't like this but it was his fault anyway.

Dream took a step forward and brang Fundy into a tight embrace but not suffocating. A hug that was tight to assure that he will promise to protect his husband and son, never ever leaving them again without a word.

"I hope you keep your words,Dream." the ginger's voice cracked at some part of his words, throat drying.

"Don't waste the second chance I gave you." the fox hybrid insists.

"You know, it hurt so much when you just left like that. My chest hurts and it felt like I was suffocating."

"It was supposed to be our happiest day. Not only that, you kissed him before me at our wedding." He really can't help to be jealous, because he too never felt so in love when he's with Dream

Dream whispered apologies into his ears as they slowly sat on the floor.

Fundy sinks into his embrace more. He was trembling as many emotions rushed over him.

The ginger grips harder on the white haired man's hoodie like he's going to lose Dream again.

He is angry at him for leaving him but deep down he still can't get Dream out of his heart.

Fundy thought that he was too forgiving. People that he held close to his heart left but he would do anything just to get them back again, even if they wronged him. It was pathetic.

The fox hybrid hid his face into Dream's chest and cringed at his thoughts.

Fundy felt so warm at the embrace, he finally found the comfort he craves.

Dream started to rub Fundy's back trying to soothe him from his sobbing.

Fundy can strongly smell the man's scent with their closed distance to each other, he smelled like lemons and wet leaves which made him dulcify from all of his crying.

The ginger felt light headed, maybe he could just let himself sleep, right there in Dream's arms.

The worries of having nightmares are nowhere to be felt.

Maybe he's safe and he'll wake up with Dream and Yogurt by his side.

Dream wouldn't leave him again, right?

"Fundy...?" Dream called to the man he's embracing when he felt Fundy's grip loosen into his hoodie.

He pulled away from the hug and saw him out cold. Dream swept the messy hair strands away from the fox hybrid's face to see him more clearly. Dark circles under his eyes are visible.

Fundy was exhausted. He felt sorry for his state.

Dream wonders how he was doing after that disastrous wedding.

The masked man scooped up the fox hybrid bridal style and went inside the cottage.

He gently laid the ginger into the couch and stood up to find blankets.

Dream stood up, leaving Fundy on the couch for a minute to find a blanket.

He wandered around the house to familiarize, the cottage was not really big but not too small either.

The silver white haired man gets a bit distracted by the items lying around the house but he's still on his way to the hallway that leads to two doors, one of them probably is the bedroom.

"Papa?" a voice called out inside one of the rooms. The little antarctic fox hybrid opened one of the doors and closed them as he walked out of the room.

The child was half asleep, trying to rub his eyes awake.

"Yogurt?" Dream calls back.

"Dada? You're back?" Yogurt was surprised to see his dad back.

Dream crouched and invited his son to a warm embrace. Yogurt throws himself to his dad's embrace.

He missed his dad so much, he hasn't seen him for many months after the wedding!

Yogurt was a flower boy along with Tommy and Ranboo at the wedding.

He was taken outside away from the event by Eret who was entrusted to babysit Yogurt for the meantime.

Yogurt cried out for his papa when he saw George hurt his papa, but he was taken outside the church by Eret so he wouldn't get hooked up by the commotion.

Yogurt was very worried and sobbed through Eret's arms crying about his papa being hurt.

Eret was there trying to calm him down and letting him back there till she knew everything had calmed down.

By the time they came back to the church, his dada was gone.

---

"I'm back, Yogurt." Dream tell him

"I promise to stay with you and your papa from now on." He reassured his son.

"Okay, please don't leave again without saying goodbye, alright?" The little fox tells his dad with a quiet voice.

"Papa was not doing well when you were gone." a sad tone can be heard from his voice.

This has raised so many questions Dream wanted to ask Yogurt for the sake of Fundy's well being.

Before even Dream could ask his son questions, The white haired fox hybrid yawned.

Maybe he'll save the questions for tomorrow when his son gets enough energy to think clearly.

They pulled back from the hug and put their foreheads together lovingly.

"I won't anymore, I'll stay with you guys from now on." The silver haired man assured his son.

A small smile formed on the cute face of the white fox hybrid.

"Where's Papa?" Yogurt looked for his other papa

"He's asleep on the couch, I'll get some blankets for him, can you watch him for me for a minute?"

"Okay!" The baby fox said obediently.

Dream nods in approval and turns to go to the bedroom.

"You will come back, right?" his son said, finding assurance.

Dream stopped on his tracks, dumfounded.

Yogurt has always been asking when his Dada is going to come back.Without his other Dad with them, he and his Papa always had felt someone is missing in some cases.

The masked man walked to Yogurt and crouched at his level. He moved his mask to the side so his son could see his face and emerald green eyes to tell him he's genuine.

"I won't leave again without saying anything, Yogurt. I promise you that. I'll take care of you and Fundy from now on." Dream assured him a determined face.

The silver white haired pecked Yogurt's snowy white hair.

Dream notices how Yogurt's hair and his are quite similar, the man smiled, having a little bit of pride in him.

Yogurt is satisfied. He smiled, and went to the living room to look after his other dad.

Dream stayed crouching, looking at his son on his way to the living room. There's a pool of guilt swirling inside him.

The silver haired stood up and went on his way to their bedroom and took the blanket that was on the bed. He went outside the room and made sure to close the door after.

He made his way to the living room and put the blanket on Fundy's figure.

Dream sat next to Yogurt on the floor in front of the couch.

The silver haired gazed at his husband as he gently patted Yogurt's snowy white hair.

It was still the middle of the night. The moonlight seeps into the close curtains of the cottage. It was silent but a comforting type of silence.

"What happened to Papa? Is he okay?" Yogurt asks.

"He's fine, just really tired." Dream answered, sighing.

"Oh…" Yogurt said like he already expected it.

"Papa hasn't slept for a few days, But he told me that he just wasn't sleepy." the little fox hybrid added, admitting.

Dream just hummed, thinking he'll need to ask Fundy about this when he wakes.

Yogurts tiredly yawned, waking up at midnight is too early for the young fox.

Before even Dream could comment, Yogurt stood up and began to nestle into Dream's arms.

"Goodnight, Dada." Yogurt said with content.

"Goodnight, Yogurt ." Dream chuckled lightly, kissing his snow-like hair for a goodnight.

The silver white haired just sat there in silence, not really down for a sleep or nap.

He wants to cherish this precious moment of having his son in his arms and his lover sleeping on the couch soundly and safe with him keeping watch here. He will protect Fundy.

Seeing them sleep vulnerable makes the man just more protective of his family.

---

It was already sunrise before Dream even knew. He was busy looking around and taking necessary things for the day.

Earlier, he got the need to do something than just sit and be a cushion for Yogurt to sleep on.

Dream stood up and got Yogurt to their bedroom.

He tucked in Yogurt and went out of the bedroom to get Fundy from the couch.

The couch is big enough to sleep on but sleeping on a proper bed may just make the ginger's sleep better.

Dream made his way in the living room and quietly murmured an apology to Fundy for disturbing his sleep as he lifted the fox hybrid covered with a blanket from the couch.

Dream supported Fundy weights with his arms on the back of the ginger's leg and the other arm supporting his back while he leaned into the man's chest.

Dream glanced at Fundy and caught him with his half-opened eyes, staring at him absentmindedly.

"Dream..?" The ginger called him, half-asleep.

"Yeah?" the silver haired man answered softly, but the man in his arms fell asleep right after.

Dream had a small smile form on his face. He walked through the living room to the bedroom, tucking Fundy in with their son and kissing his the ginger's forehead.

When he tried to stand up, Fundy's hand was gripping loosely at his hoodie's sleeves. He gently pried the man's hand and rested it gently at bed.

He got out of the room and took another quick glance at his family before closing the door.

It's very early and the sun hasn't risen yet but he wants to look around and do the chores that are needed to be done.

He went through the living room and let his curiosity drag him.

Nothing was really special there other than the chimney which has burnt out wood that needs replacing.

The kitchen was dimly lit by the moonlight. The dishes were all tidied up and the cupboards were filled with spices and a few ingredients.

There were two furnaces there, a sink, and large chests.

He looked through the chests and found great amounts of berries, potatoes, and fish.

He closed the chest immediately and didn't even take a second glance to look at the other items on the chest seeing the potatoes.

Dream's just sure he's not going to eat potatoes for a very long time as much as possible.

He already ate those everyday back at that prison, it was tiring.

He made it out of prison last month thanks to a friend.

He had all the time in the world to reflect on his past when he was kept in that horrid place.

It was traumatizing.

Dream just wants to live peacefully now and back to the family he had left.

He decided to head out to get wood since it's already sunrise, the mobs outside will probably run back to the caves or would have been burned to death by the sun.

He went outside, the chills of the night were still there but he could endure it since the warm sun was already seeping through the horizon.

Before heading to the spruce forest near the cottage, he made sure to close the door of the house.

---

"Dream?" Fundy yawned as he sat up on the bed.

Dream's gone and he's in his bed.

Was that all just a dream? It all felt too realistic but then again his recent dreams are starting to feel real too.

He sighed, a deep frown formed in his face until his sensitive nose smelled something delicious.

Wait a minute.

He quickly got up from the bed and went out of the bedroom, ran, and halted when saw a white haired person wearing lime green clothing with an apron on, humming in the kitchen.

Fundy stared at the man and rubbed his still tired eyes. The dream wasn't a dream at all, it was real!

The ginger felt his chest loosen and shoulders relax when he's sure that Dream was really there.

He walked to the man and hugged him from his back, burying his face on his shoulder.

"Morning." Dream said calmly.

Fundy only hummed.

"I think you should go back to bed, you can eat when you're fully awake."

"Nooope." Fundy insisted.

Dream stopped stirring the soup and put it on the side.

He turned around to look at Fundy.

"You still have those dark bags under your eyes and you're still half-awake right now." Dream scolded the man as he cupped his cheeks.

"You look like shit without sleep." the silver haired teased.

"Shut the fuck up." having a grumpy expression.

"C'mon," Dream snickered as he grabbed "the ginger's hand, leading him to the bedroom.

"It's still too early anyways." he added.

The fox hybrid clumsily followed the man to the bedroom.

Fundy lied on the bed as Dream put the blanket over him.

Dream kissed him on his forehead and stood up.

He tried to go back to the kitchen to look after the chicken soup he was cooking but was stopped by Fundy holding his hand.

"Stay."

Dream sighed and gently smiled. "I can't, Funds. The chicken soup is going to get overcooked."

The ginger had an upset face hearing that. Can't he just stay and cuddle with him? He had missed him so much.

"I'll just be here in the house when you wake up, I promise." Dream assured the fox hybrid as he caressed his knuckles lovingly.

"Ok…" Still upset but he can't do anything really. If he didn't let him go, they would starve because of him being selfish.

A face of worry shows at Dream’s face. “I’m just gonna be here really. I’ll be back in a sec.”

Fundy gave up and nodded in understanding, he let go of his hand. He watched the silver haired man rush out of the room .

Dream went to the kitchen to find the soup to be completely fine. He sighed with relief.

Now that the food is ready for later, he turned off the stove, covered the pot with its lid.
He took off his apron and hung it on the rack on the wall.

The man quickly went on his way to the bedroom, to his lovely foxes.

As Fundy let go of his hand, there’s a feeling of being too upset with him leaving. He knew Dream literally said he'll be back and that he’ll just be here, not going anywhere, but Fundy still felt empty inside with just this small issue.

Fundy’s thoughts came to a halt when Dream came into view. A flutter on his chest bloomed, he stopped feeling that “emptiness”

“Hi.” Dream said with a bright smile. “Told you I’ll be back.” He kept his promise.

Fundy invited the man into an embrace while lying down in the bed, to which Dream complied with a sigh, he sat on the bedside and hugged the ginger.

They didn’t let go and had a comfortable silence for a minute, not until the white haired pulled back and gazed into Fundy’s golden-yellow eyes for a second asking for consent.

Dream leaned into the ginger closer with eyes half closed. Fundy closed his eyes and waited till their lips met. It was a gentle-loving peck.

The silver white haired pulled back and smiled at his lover, no, fiance? Husband? Yes. He smiled at his husband brightly, clearly happy he’s back with them. He has a home now.

The fox-hybrid pulled Dream and went in for another kiss. The white haired was a bit surprised that he could taste the longing and loneliness in his kiss.

Dream pulled back and stared at that man once more who still wants a kiss.

How needy, but he understands why.

He peppered the man with kisses. He kissed his lips, he kissed his forehead, he kissed his hair, he kissed his cheek, and lastly, he kissed his nose.

Fundy laughed as he was attacked with love.

“You’re such an idiot, babe.”, the ginger lightheartedly said.

Dream laughed at his statement.

“I love you, h-hon.” the silver white haired stuttered.

“I love you too, babe.” Fundy snickered.

“You’re really not good with pet names, huh?” the ginger said, containing his laughter.

“S-shut up, I know.” Dream said as his freckled cheeks became painted with a soft pink blush.

Their banter was cut short when they felt a certain child wake up.

They looked to their side and saw their son sitting up.

“Goodmorning.” the arctic fox hybrid said as he rubbed his eyes awake.

“Goodmorning, Yogurt”

“Morning, champion.”

Yogurt went closer to the two and leaned into his papa’s chest to cuddle with them.

Dream can feel his heart explode, he leaned into the two foxes and embraced them while burying his face into Fundy’s shoulder to hide how red his cheeks are from how cute their son is.

Fundy laughed softly and sighed with these two "babies" cuddling him.

They are soft.

He is thankful though that he is surrounded by the people he loves. He has been wanting this for a long time.

He feels protected and loved with them, close to him.

Notes:

Thank you for reading!

Any Dream as housewife believers? Good thing he can cook because Fundy definitely sucks at cooking.
