Work Text:

The pillow behind Xiao cushioned his fall against the head part of the bed and a surprised sound escaped him when he found himself caged between Zhongli’s arms. The gap between them was merely a few millimeters, the tip of their noses brushing against each other. Their breaths mingled and the earthy scent of Zhongli danced around Xiao’s nose.

Though before Xiao found his voice again, Zhongli laid his lips on his, initiating a kiss between them. The touch was gentle, soft and feathery and sent a comfortable shiver down Xiao’s spine. A sigh escaped Xiao and when he felt Zhongli’s smile against his lips, his cheeks flamed up.

Even Xiao opened his mouth to say something, no words were coming out. Instead he found himself raising his hand, shyly cupping Zhongli’s cheek with it and brushing his thumb over his cheekbone. His eyes spoke what he wasn’t able to say with his voice.

Zhongli shifted his position, hovering over Xiao’s body and raised his face a little bit more by holding his chin up. Naturally, his lips found their way and the kiss lasted longer, only interrupted by the dim morning sunrise. Zhongli’s hand rested on Xiao’s cheek, his fingers playing with his hair while the kiss between them broke.

“Ah-” Xiao wasn’t able to hold eye contact anymore, and he felt like his heart would jump out of his rib cage any moment. They have shared kisses before but it never felt so intense as it did right now. Xiao’s breath was going fast and even he wasn’t able to see it, he heard and felt that it was similar for Zhongli. “That-” He didn’t even know what he wanted to say. His mind was clouded and the taste of Zhongli’s still lingering on his own made it hard to concentrate.

Forehead against forehead, they shared personal space. No words were interrupting them while they bathed in each other’s scent.

“Zhongli, I-” Xiao looked up at him, taking in the redness on his cheeks, the slightly darker lips and the loving gaze Zhongli was giving him. The fact this was all because of him took away his breath and words.

Zhongli shifted his position again and brushed his thumb over Xiao’s lips, taking away the saliva. “Your lips are so soft,” he then said, his voice husky and barely louder than a whisper. “I could kiss them all day.”

The confession caused Xiao’s heart to skip a beat before beating ten times faster than before. Holding eye contact was still hard, his cheeks all red and the warmth spreading through him like chocolate melting in the sun. “I-” He swallowed. “I wouldn’t mind that.”

As soon as the words were out, Xiao clung onto the bedding, wishing he could hide somewhere after letting out such embarrassing words. Yet, when Zhongli raised his face again, their eyes interlocking, he felt at ease and never wanting the moment to end.

Xiao was sure Zhongli would keep the promise between them.

I’m not going to leave you. You’re never going to have to suffer by yourself again.
