Work Text:
Friday nights usually mean different things for each person. For some people, it could mean finally having the time to catch up with friends for a drink, or it could mean finally being able to rest after a long week of non stop working. That was how Shoto used to spend his Friday nights back in his early twenties. He would spend his nights alone while watching the busy streets below him from his first ever Tokyo apartment, or he'd be in a bar with his friends as they drank their frustrations away.
Friday nights meant lots of things for him back then; but now, with him in his early thirties, it meant driving home to his wife and their two kids.
He was happy.
Shoto parks his car outside of the huge house Momo had picked out for them to move in after they'd married. He wasn't new to the lifestyle of the upper class, but he would be lying if he said their current home wasn't much bigger than what he was used to. He hesitated at first in agreeing with purchasing the house along with the land surrounding it, but his wife's smile whenever she talked about her ideas for the place and the family she'd been dreaming of made all of Shoto's doubts disappear without second thought.
He was welcomed with the smell of herbs as he stepped inside the house. He didn't even bother to announce his arrival. After taking off his outdoor shoes and putting on his indoor ones, he started looking around for his wife and their kids. The children's rooms were empty, and Shoto suspected that they were either at his parent's, or Momo's.
The dual haired man then started looking for his wife. His eyebrows scrunched up together after not finding her in the places he would usually find her in. She wasn't in the library, their room, the salas, or even in their garden drinking tea.
His lips were now in a frown, realising his idea of surprising her of his early arrival from work would go to vain. He looked at his phone to check their message thread again to see if Momo had told him she'll be going home late from work, but there was nothing.
Shoto was about to call his eldest kid to ask him about their mother's whereabouts when he suddenly heard humming from the kitchen. He walked towards the direction of the tune until he was met with the person he'd been looking for since earlier, except she wasn't looking at him, nor was she aware of his presence as she focused on taking out the noodles from the boiling water.
Momo was about to place the noodles on the bamboo plate when she felt familiar arms wrap around her waist. Her body tensed at first until it relaxed from the shock. Her lips automatically formed a small smile at the feeling of her husband's arms around her.
"You're home," she whispered under her breath, her body leaning against his own as the comfort took over her.
Shoto rested his chin on Momo's shoulder, his thumb rubbing small circles against her stomach as he placed a gentle kiss on her nape.
"I'm home," he smiles back, his hold on her tightening.
They stayed silent for almost a minute as they basked in the familiarity of domestic bliss, until Momo's eyes widened as she remembered what she was doing before her husband arrived.
"Oh, Shoto!" She immediately pulled away, shaking her head as if scolding herself for forgetting. "I was preparing something and I almost forgot because of you." She huffed out before grabbing the two plates and placing them on the table, her small smile from before now growing into a bigger one.
"See, I've been looking for you when I arrived," Shoto smirked at the sight of his favourite food, immediately sitting down on the chair by the end of the table. "I looked everywhere, but I didn't even check the kitchen. I thought the chef you hired was the one cooking with how good it smelled."
Momo's chest swelled from her husband's compliment about the smell of the food. She wanted to make Shoto happy, and she knew cooking cold soba for him would get him smiling for the rest of the night until their sleep.
Tonight was doing well despite the sudden thoughts she'd been having earlier, and she decided that this was a sign that everything was alright between them.
She thought her thoughts had finally been proven wrong, but then Shoto's expression morphed into a look of confusion that then turned to a sour one before he slowly placed the dipping sauce down along with his utensils.
Momo's smile slowly dropped as her heart skipped a beat.
But then Shoto shook his head before starting to eat the food again, although it was already evident there was something wrong.
The woman felt her eyes prickle with the tears that threatened to spill. Shoto was about to talk about something until he realised his wife was crying. He immediately sprung into action, standing up from his seat as he locked his wife in a hug.
"Words," He whispered softly as he let her cry against his now soaked shirt. She then only sobbed louder.
Shoto decided to leave the food on their table despite it being unfinished, carrying the girl to their salas and sitting her down on the couch.
Momo shook her head in refusal to look at him.
"Words, my love." He repeated for the second time. She closed her eyes as she started taking in deep breaths to relax herself, and that was Shoto's cue to sit down beside her.
During their early year of dating, they had realised that they had a tendency to keep their thoughts and troubles to themselves until it all suddenly exploded. It was unhealthy, and so they decided to open up to each other about anything that needed to be talked about.
They had their cues for each other. When Momo was finally ready to talk, Shoto would notice she'd start taking deep breaths to prepare herself to open up, and he would then sit beside her, silently telling the lassie he was ready to listen.
His cues, according to Momo, was that he would knock against something before talking to her. Whether it be a door because he was outside their room, a wall behind them, or anything at all— as if he was asking permission.
Momo grabbed his hand and squeezed on it lightly. Their eyes met briefly before she quickly broke the contact away.
"Earlier… earlier at w-work, some of my sidekicks had been talking about t-their Friday night plans, and it was mostly them wanting to drink out after, or s-spending their time by themselves," Momo started as he kept mum to let her continue.
"They asked me i-if I wanted to go with them, but of course I declined, because my Friday nights are reserved for us… but once they l-left, I started thinking about… about how your life was before me. You… you were a bachelor, and your life back t-then was probably more enjoyable than your life with me now." She breathed out a chuckle, but Shoto's expression stayed the same. She then continued.
"I-I just started having these weird thoughts of d-doubt and… and how unhappy you probably are with me," She started fiddling with his fingers as they were entangled, her anxious state breaking Shoto silently.
"I asked the chef to not come in tonight because I wanted to show you that I could still make you happy by cooking for you. And I wanted… I wanted to make love with you tonight as well, and so I asked my parents if they c-could take care of Satoshi and Isshiki for the weekend. Because now, my body isn't the way it was before… and I was also afraid that I couldn't satisfy you anymore." Her voice cracked at the last sentence as tears started to fall once again.
Shoto didn't utter anything before gently pushing Momo down the couch. He then started placing small kisses on her exposed skin despite it not being too much from her house attire that consisted of pants and his shirt she would steal from him.
It didn't matter to him. What mattered now was proving to her that all of her thoughts were nothing but just as they were— thoughts.
"Momo," He placed a hand on her cheek as he grazed it slowly, his breathing against her skin causing Momo goosebumps. "You don't know how much you make me happy, and it scares me that I don't know as well. I don't know how much I love you, or how happy I am with you, but if there's one thing I know… it's that there's nothing I wouldn't do for this strong and confident woman that changed my life for the better."
Shoto then lifted the hem of her upper body clothing, moving his body down as he started placing feather kisses over her stretch marks from her pregnancy, as well as the scars that come from their battles as pro heroes.
"God, I love you so much, Momo. I don't need anything and anyone else to be happy, because the day you answered my awkward confession of love years ago, I was already named the title of luckiest man to ever live." He chuckled at the memory of his confession to her during their walk home from hero duties. She was flustered, but then she suddenly confessed her mutual feelings ever since high school.
That was the day their forever started. Their marriage and little family was only a bonus, but who doesn't love bonuses?
"Insecurities never go away, but all I can do is to remind you that your insecurities are just that. You've already given me the life I've always wanted, and nothing could ever top that." Shoto moved his body back up to place a kiss on Momo's lips, and they were now again in the smile that she wore earlier.
They decided to cuddle after the whole situation. They stayed silent as they held each other for almost an hour already, until the lassie spoke up to ask something.
"The… the soba was bad, wasn't it?" Momo's voice was shaky as she asked. She expected Shoto to lie about it to comfort her, but his answer only shocked her.
"To be honest, yeah. That's why I didn't expect you to be the one in the kitchen cooking that good smell; we both aren't meant to be in the kitchen."
Momo gave him a blank expression, before letting out a giggle as she playfully hit his arm.
"Ever so honest?"
"What can I say? All my compliments earlier were true, so a little pain from the truth couldn't possibly hurt."
Momo hit his arm again, but harder this time. Shoto only hummed, eyes seeing nothing but the woman in front of him.
This was how he wanted to spend his Friday nights. With her, their kids, and her ramblings.
