Work Text:

Wham!

Vyn stumbled back a few steps on impact, realizing that someone had just run into him.

“Sorry, sorry!” Though the apologies were accompanied by a litany of curses under his breath.

Fixing his glasses, the psychiatrist realized that the crash had caused the other’s glasses to fly to the ground in front of his feet. As the other person picked themselves up, Vyn picked up the glasses, and a book that had flown a bit far. By the time he had done that, the student (his status obvious just from how hectic they seemed) was up and was bowing their head in apology.

“Sorry! I’m running late for class,” He (they, Vyn noted in his head, seeing the pin) took back the book and glasses, “Thanks.”

He watched them fix their hair and reset the glasses on the bridge of his nose and then frown, taking off the glasses again. Vyn reached into his lab coat’s inner pocket, removing a silk cloth, “Here you go, if your glasses are dirty.”

“Oh, thank you!”

Vyn left the student there, knowing he had a guest lecture to get to as well. He had more than enough cloths like that and perhaps a small gift would help the student’s mood.

--

Owain looked back up after cleaning his glasses, realizing that the professor had left already. Another alarm (set thanks to Alice) went off. He cursed as he shot off. Thankfully, the class wasn’t too far from where he was and soon enough, he was sliding into the seat next to Alice, who had stolen one of Kiki’s sweaters,  just as the teacher just started calling role.

“Which alarm?”

“…third. Thanks though.”

Alice giggled softly, shooting a message to point out just where they were going to be starting for this lesson. Pulling out their tablet pen, Owain remembered again that they had the handkerchief but double checking it, they couldn’t find any indication about who owned it. They’d stop by the science department later just in case though.

 -Several Years Later-

Owain brought the espresso cup up to their lips and frowned as the steam fogged up their glasses. They cursed under their breath as they pulled out the handkerchief that they’d kept for all these years.

“That’s…”

Owain looked up as they replaced the glasses onto their face, catching the tail end of surprise on Vyn’s face, “Something wrong?”

“Where did you get that…?”

“Someone on campus years ago. They gave it to me to clean my glasses and I could never find out who they were to give it back.”

They didn’t get why Vyn had to set down his tea and chuckle, “Unbelievable.”

Owain was especially confused until Vyn took out a familiar handkerchief, identical to the one in Owain’s hand, “My dear Owain, please just keep that. Especially if it has been serving you faithfully all these years.”

“Oh. ”
