That was until a deal turned bad and left the company on the cusp of bankruptcy. Enter Ilya Rozanov, his biggest competition and soon to be boss.

Summary
“Well. I came out to the team as gay a few weeks ago. Apparently they decided they’d rather spend their time calling me a ‘geisha whore’ and standing around than doing their fucking jobs,” Shane said, dejectedly. He kept his voice low as they got into position for the game to start so the ref wouldn’t hear. His eyes trained on the ground, ready for the drop. He couldn’t force himself to look at Ilya in that moment.
“What.” Rozanov’s voice was low as he growled the word out.
Shane braved a glance upwards, hoping he wouldn’t see more disgust. While he did find it in Ilya’s eyes, it seemed to also be mixed with a twinge of sadness and pure, unadulterated anger. Ilya let out a harsh puff of breath.
Unsure of how Ilya felt about his confession, Shane went on, “Yeah it’s whatever man. Sorry, I shouldn’t have-“
“No. You don’t apologize. Motherfuckers.”
AU where Shane is slightly older than Ilya. Shane captains the metros while Ilya captains the centaurs. Shane tries to come out to his teammates and much to the horror of the centaurs, they do not take it well.
Aka Ilya decides it’s time for Shane to learn what it means to be loved and supported… romance shall ensueee

“…You want to?” he asks.
Shane blinks. “What?”
“Kiss someone.”
The question makes Shane’s brain short circuit.
Shane swallows. “I mean—yeah.”
“Then why haven’t you?”
“I don’t know.” Shane shrugs again, shoulders tight. “Timing. People. It’s just… not something I think about like that.”
That’s not entirely true.
He does think about it. Just in a different way. Abstractly. Like something other people do, but not he himself.
Ilya watches him for a long moment.
“I could show you.”

Summary
“Sure. You want to talk. Let’s.”
Jane licks between her lips and swallows. Is she swaying towards Rozanova or is Rozanova getting imperceptively closer? Their chests are almost grazing; Jane’s in her loose shirt that barely hides the peaks of her nipples, her body betraying its interest, and Rozanova’s breasts exposed by the seemingly bottomless hemline of her dress.
Jane can’t stop staring. She’s staring still when she asks, “Do you want to… sit? Maybe?”
And then Rozanova is stepping forward, removing any distance they had between their bodies and forcing Jane back against the door. Jane is momentarily surprised by how well they fit together. Rozanova is taller, curvier and yet their bodies slot together perfectly. Softly.
It’s different than a man— Jane has tried and tried over the last year to make that work. But they are all hard, unyielding planes and Rozanova’s body is still strong, but her muscles ripple like a gentle current rather than a rough tide.
“Not really.”

Summary
It is easy to hate Ilya Rozanov; easier than to like him, at least. It would be easier to keep hating him if he wasn't everywhere that Shane also was.
