“Shimei! Could you not have waited until after we had all of our supplies to poison Lin-daren’s son? I just barely managed to cobble together enough of a cure to halt the agonizing pain and impending death.”
“What would you have liked me to do, shixiong? Just let him kill another girl after she said no?”
“Never! But we needed those supplies for the Healer Valley and this town is the closest and cheapest spot to get them. Now anyone affiliated with the valley will be run into the forest before they can blink, let alone come near the marketplace.”
“Ruyu, you knew what I was like when you married me. In fact, it’s even in the marriage contract: Must be okay with curing poisons and fleeing if unsuccessful. How was I supposed to know that the interaction between my poison and your cure would render Lin-daren’s son impotent?”
“Miaomiao, you do remember that I’ve known you since you were a child and Yue Feng’er was the one doing this job. You absolutely knew the most likely cure I would use and its side effects.”
“Perhaps shixiong should stop being so predictable in his cures and we would be having this conversation in Lin-daren’s mansion instead of underneath this tree.”
“That’s enough out of you. Have you recovered from your dizzy spell, because I can hear the townsfolk coming this way and I don’t want to figure out if those are shouts of gratitude or anger.”
“I’m perfectly alright, shixiong. I was just a little dizzy because I’ve missed my last three bloods and I think I’m pregnant. Shixiong? Shixiong? Zhen Ruyu! Why are you now the one that is fainting?”
