Chapter Text

Guardian 9:41 Dragon

Keeper Deshanna Istimaethoriel,

Aneth ara, hahren! How is everyone doing near Wycome? Are the aravel running smoothly? Hopefully sometime soon I’ll be able to visit in person, but ever since the Conclave went awry, I’ve had my hands full here in Haven. Can you believe it? Me, across the Waking Sea, in the middle of the Frostbacks! There are so many shemlen here; I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but many of them are actually quite nice and treat me with respect. That’s probably due to them believing I’m this, ‘Herald of Andraste’; strange of them to call me the Herald of a religion I don’t believe in, right? One of my new companions, for instance, Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast, Right Hand of the Divine; she believes me to be chosen by the Maker. That’s the power of faith for you, I suppose.

However, the Chantry isn’t too happy that a “lowly knife-ear” is claiming to be a Chosen One (even though I make no claims to be holy); combine this with their current dilapidated state after the Conclave, the Chantry would rather see the Inquisition fall than help restore order amidst all this chaos, which I find rather disappointing. I pray that the Chantry will come around and lend us their aid, but I sense that will be rather unlikely, at least for now.

On a lighter note, there’s an elven apostate here who saved me from being consumed by the Mark on my hand. His name is Solas, and he hails from a village far to the North. He has extensive knowledge about the Fade, and says that in his dreams, he can walk the Fade and witness the memories of old, even convene with spirits! Fascinating stuff, really. I like chatting with him about such things, though he says that we Dalish don’t have the right records of our history. I asked him, “Why don’t you teach us the correct records, then?” but he just shook his head and said something about trying to, but we wouldn’t listen. Curious, seeing as I would love to know what new perspective he holds on our culture.

I wish I could write some more, but for now I must end this here, as I need to head to Redcliffe soon to speak to the rebel mages holed up there. Perhaps we can forge a good alliance and seal this Breach for good, and then I can return home to you all. I miss all of you terribly.

Dareth shiral,
Telemnar Lavellan
