Marshmallows

Summary:

A silly thing I wrote at two in the morning and decided to publish.

Work Text:

It was snowing outside and Trucy was sitting next to one of her best friends, Pearly.  The two of them were sitting dangerously close to the fire place. It wasn't too dangerous though, with Trucy not having her cape to catch fire and her hair pulled back. It seemed that Pearly was more concerned on the matter than Trucy was.

Pearly never said anything though and would just pass worried glances over to the magician, which were ignored.

They had two sticks which Trucy had found out by the apartment complex entrance. On the top of the sticks were marshmallows, which the girls were trying to roast over the fire.

Pearly was always able to cook hers to perfection, she was dubbed the marshmallow perfectionist.

Trucy on the other hand, always had hers turn black, or caught them on fire. She would still eat them, even if they weren't the best tasting.

"Do  you think I could try one of your marshmallows?" Pearly asked after a while. Trucy didn't know why Pearly would want one of her incredibly imperfect and practically burnt marshmallows, but she complied and gave her one.

"These are amazing! The outside is a little crunchy, but the inside is still sweet and gooey!" Pearly gasped, a glint shown in her eyes.

Trucy didn't honestly think her marshmallows were all that good, but she was glad to see that Pearly thought otherwise. She put another marshmallow on her stick and asked, "Do you want me to make you some more?"

"Please do! I love your marshmallows! I'll let you taste one of my marshmallows too since you let me taste yours."

So they began making marshmallows for the other. Trucy did her best to get them to the burnt perfection that Pearly thought they were, and Pearly continued to make her marshmallows the way she had been making them since the start; absolutely perfect.

"Here you go." Pearly said and then took off her perfect marshmallow from her not-so-perfect stick and handed it to Trucy.

She put the entire thing in her mouth and could tell that this is what perfection tasted like. The outer part of the marshmallow didn't have that horrible burnt taste to it. It was golden and crispy and gooey and absolutely perfect.

"That was amazing! Your marshmallows are perfect, why do you like the burnt ones so much?" Trucy asked after she had swallowed her perfect marshmallow.

"Because you made them!" Pearly said and smiled. A light shade of  pink rose to Trucy's cheeks. "Also, I think the burnt parts taste nice."

"Well...I guess it can. I still think your marshmallows are better."

"Do you want me to continue making marshmallows for you?" Pearly asked, already preparing another marshmallow for the magician.

"Sure! I'll keep making them for you in return." Trucy grabbed another marshmallow and stuck it on her stick as she replied.

"That sounds like a nice idea."

The two of them continued to make marshmallows for the other until the bag was completely empty. After they had thrown away the bag and gotten a blanket to share, they tossed their sticks into the fire and, upon Pearly's request, sat a little farther away from the fire together as they cuddled under the blanket.
