Skybound (Our Spirits Shall Forever Fly High)

Summary:

"Yuumi, you reckon the people will care if I steal from their King?

Yuumi's bright blue eyes shine under the light of the sun. She meows gently and quietly. "I don't think so, 'Aks! They don't seem to like him that much, anyway!"

Akshan hums in response. "So, you noticed, too. Sorry, but it seems like we'll have to take a small detour and deal with whatever's happening here."

Yuumi gently nudges her nose in the crook of the man's neck. It's comforting, and Akshan smiles. Yuumi was always a very understanding creature.
---
Anyone that has encountered Yuumi or Akshan can tell you with certainty, that, the two are the most mischievous of their ragtag group of colorful figures... But never without reason. (Okay, that's a lie... but they do have their reasons for doing what they do. Sometimes, that is.)

A series of snippets consisting of Akshan and Yuumi stirring the pot wherever they go, being a duo full of mischief, and all-in-all, the ones to bring chaos.

Notes:

*sweats nervously* fuck here we go again im back on my bullshit ya'll,,,,,

anyways enjoy this story of consisting of yuumi and akshan making whack decisions for a bunch of words straight--

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

one.

Akshan laughs and grins at the sight below. It’s amusing to see the soldiers so furious at them — it’s deserved, though. The King and his men should be treating their citizens properly, yet they had the gall to do the opposite. They decided that it was okay to tax their people an insanely high amount and then proceed to give them more money in the name of “ respecting the King.

Akshan found it abhorrent, hence why he’s in the present state of events with Yuumi. The two quickly dealt with the issue, scamming the guards, scolding the King, maybe destroying a few spots of the Royal Palace here-and-there…

“Sorry, Yuumi! Seems like we’ll have to take another small trip to rest for later!” Akshan doesn’t sound apologetic.

But then again, Yuumi doesn’t exactly sound angry with her response of, “That’s alright with me!”

Although… Akshan reckons Yone won’t be the happiest person with him — age be damned. While Jhin and Sylas might be the oldest of them all, Yone is most definitely the scariest when he’s genuinely angry (Probably comes from having to deal with Yasuo as a kid — but you didn’t hear Akshan say that).

two.

Okay, hear Akshan out. He doesn’t mean for this to happen. He’s just trying to talk to some person in the bar one evening, and the next morning he finds himself being chased by a random group of bandits.

How was he supposed to know that the lady he talked to was some insane, unhinged, and bloodthirsty folk?

He pouts and huffs as he dodges the fire arrows being shot from the enchanted bow of the silver-haired lady.

And while Jhin is wearing his mask at the moment, he can envision the disappointed look he is getting from the man without even having to see his face. “Don’t give me that look, baba, ” he grumbles.

Jhin doesn’t say anything; he signs instead. ‘You absolute menace.’

Akshan rolls his eyes dismissively and sticks out his tongue at the man, before using his grappling hook to propel himself away from the psycho lady. Yuumi laughs at him and he glares at the cat, although there is little heat in his gaze.

three.

He came to a restaurant to get food, obviously. But Akshan swears he and Yuumi didn’t mean to start some sort of food fight. They were just…trying to help a lady from being harassed by some shady customer. It was not supposed to turn into a free-for-all.

But, alas. Here are the two, awkwardly getting questioning stares from the others. Yone looks incredibly tired, Yasuo is facepalming, Kayn looks at him with an ‘are you crazy?’ type of gaze, while Sylas rubs his forehead, seemingly rethinking his decision to join the group on their trip. Jhin uses the handle of his gun to lightly bonk Akshan’s shoulder.

Akshan lets out a hiss at the stinging sensation and stares at him in betrayal; the others laugh heartily at the interaction.

four.

“While destroying a whole building was uncalled for, that’s not important. Your safety and the fact you helped all those children, is what matters, you two,” Sylas states, pulling them into a hug.

Sylas stares at the children regretfully, and suddenly Yuumi and Akshan are hit with the realization that Sylas must somehow see himself in those children.

Oppressed. Hated. Biased.

Hated due to their magical roots.

Suddenly, Akshan is glad that he decided to eradicate the men in the higher position of the hierarchy of the trafficking ring.

‘They deserved it,’ a voice rings at the back of his head.

(This time, he agrees with his inner voice).

five.

Cats hate water.

Cats hate water.

Cats hate water.

This thought constantly plagues Akshan’s mind. The group is making camp near a lake, and he stares at the pool of water and then Yuumi. Yuumi catches his gaze and her eyes widen in panic. She howls in alarm and immediately dashes away from the man. He grins wolfishly and chases her in response.

Then, she’s picked up by a pair of calloused hands. She frantically flounders her paws and Kayn sighs in fake sadness. “Sorry, Yuumi. But it has to be done.”

She is slowly getting closer to the water, her screeching and howling becoming that much louder, and eventually, she is dumped into the water, and with flailing limbs, she resurfaces and swims back to the grass and shakes herself off. She shoots a burst of magic at Akshan and he winces at the minor attack.

Yuumi glares at Akshan and proceeds to ignore Akshan for the rest of the day, much to his dismay. (Jhin and Yone exchange whispers, laughing at the sight.)

six.

Yuumi is staring at Akshan who looks vaguely uncomfortable by the crowd surrounding him. He is being bombarded by all sorts of females and males who are getting way too close to his personal space, asking him questions about his background and history, and just too personal things.

His model extravaganza was supposed to be...well, a one-time occurrence.

Yet, him showing off his body just once caused him to gain a following.

For as much as he’s flamboyant, even he has his limits, and these people do not seem to be able to understand that.

Yuumi’s eye twitches and she yowls loudly in fake pain. Suddenly the eyes turn to her and she makes a discreet motion with her head for him to leave the area immediately. He nods at her appreciatively, and with a swift motion, he disappears. By the time the crowd realizes that she’s faking an injury, Akshan is already merely a shadow, and the people groan, clicking their tongues, and complaining about ‘missed opportunities.’

She decides that that’s also her cue to leave, and as she casually struts away with a meow, whispers occur within the crowd.

“Isn’t that the cat that’s friends with like some really shady people?”

“You mean Kayn and those brothers and some others?”

“Yeah…”

“Did you know that she apparently got Sylas away from Demacian soldiers?”

“Wait… that cat is the reason that prisoner managed to escape despite being supposedly severely injured?”

“Yeah!”

“Isn’t her name like... Yuumi or something?”

“I’m not sure. That sounds right, though.”

Akshan grins from the rooftop of a building and swings away, back to home base, where his misfit family is waiting for him and Yuumi.

So, onto their ages... It's confirmed that Jhin's 37 - 39, Sylas is in his early 30s, Yone's also in his 30s, Yasuo is in his later 20s/early 30s, and Kayn's around 20 while Akshan's age isn't really ever mentioned/confirmed at all. And, because it's so vague, I'm going to make them these ages:
Jhin is 37 | Sylas is 33 | Yone is 31 | Yasuo is 28 | Akshan is 23 | Kayn is 20.
