A Surprise Meeting

Summary:

Raven meets a cat

Work Text:

Raven rested her eyes for a brief moment, turning her gaze away from the book she had been reading. Novels were a curious way to pass the time, with her only enjoying them since her travel to planet Earth, having been forbidden from them on Azarath. They could be used to reflect life in a way that the modern methods of technology never could, make the mind become one with the essence that was the core of pages bound into one, a story onto which the shadow of society matters to understand in truth.

A cat, small and dashed with spots, jumped onto the bench Raven sat upon, a curious thing staring at her with its slit eyes. Such a movement startled Raven, visibly taken aback as she looked to the cat. A cat was such a fragile creature compared to even humans, a wrong touch, and it could be no more, especially from her. To bear it harm would be to revoke all her qualms of being against violence, especially against a harmless creature.

But was it truly harmless? Perhaps this was a creature sent by Trigon to spy and corrupt all those around. But she had not bear witness to such a future, and yet it still worried her deeply. However, before Raven could make a decision, the cat had decided to jump onto her lap, freezing her in place. The cat pawed at Raven softly before rubbing itself over her; it did not seem to have evil intent in mind.

Hesitantly, she put her hand onto the cat’s head, rubbing it. It was unlike anything she had felt before, soft and felt almost akin to a pillowcase that bore fur; it was a nice feeling and relaxed her nerves. Raven looked at the cat, the hint of a smile appearing face with emotions both of good and evil running through her mind. Then, with a sardonic yet sad tone, she said, ‘You should not have gotten so close to me, little one.’

The cat only meowed back.
