Work Text:

No one but Blue knew about Red’s most hidden talent, not even his own mother. Blue was the only one he could ever trust enough to show, there was no one else in the world that he could share his secrets with and know that they would never tell a single soul. That’s why Blue was the only person he had ever played a song for. Blue was the only one who had ever watched Red’s hands - calloused from years on Mount Silver and training - flit gently across the monochrome piano keys. Not even his own mother knew, but he could never hide anything from Blue. He would never want to anyway. Blue had always known everything about him, it would have been stupid to hide something that he would have found eventually. If it had been anyone else, he would have been scared, scared that they would make fun of him, but Blue never would, at least not with any harmful intent. He had always been by Red’s side, without falter or ever seeming to stray from him. Even now, as he sat next to Red on the piano bench, his head leaned against Red’s shoulder, Red could tell that he would never leave no matter what happened. Every song that he had ever played had been for Blue, even when he hadn’t known it yet, even when they had been separated by the thousands of miles between Kanto and Kalos. Every single note was for him, every melody was filled with the memories of the sound of his voice, and every time Red played, he would always think of Blue’s face. Of course, that was one thing he would never tell Blue, rather just let him listen and know that it was for him. Red slowly stopped as one of Blue’s hands brushed against his, trying to get his attention.

“Don’t you ever get tired of playing for me?”

“Never.” He would never tire of the way Blue sat quietly by his side when he asked if he could play him a song, of the way that their feet gently touched under the piano, of the way Blue’s slim body fit so well next to his own, and as long as no one else found out, they could keep this feeling between the two of them, their own little secret.

“Don’t ever stop then, play for me and me alone.” That had been the plan all along. Red paused in his playing to kiss Blue’s forehead gently and play with his hair, mostly to watch his face erupt in a bright red. Blue was his everything, both the notes and the song, and he always would be, “you’re such an idiot Red…” Somehow he had always known things would turn out this way with Blue because he had always loved him, and he always would.

“I promise, it’s always been you.” Blue giggled, snuggling closer to Red.

“I’ve always known that you battle-brained idiot.” If things would stay this way forever, Red could be happy. He could only be happy with Blue by his side, Blue was the one who motivated him to do things, to be the person that he was today, and he would always be thankful to him for that.
