Keith doesn’t know how Lance would react to his new hair, if he would even react at all, or start making fun of his new hair even more than the previous “mullet”, he doesn’t know, and honestly? Who cares what Lance thinks of his haircut? It’s not like it matters anyway, he just wanted to get rid of the mullet comments.
So here he is, halfway down the hallway when he sees Lance, sprawled out on the couch of the living room area. He takes one look at Keith, then smirks,
“finally got rid of the ugly mullet huh? Well, honestly this one is even worse..”
“fuck off Lance! No one asked you!!” Keith huffs.
Lance just laughs obnoxiously, his smirk still in place.
Keith stands there awkwardly, doesn’t even remember what he was planning to do when he reached the main lobby. Then Lance speaks up again, his voice harsh, full of malice,
“Hey Mr.Lone wolf, what do you think of yourself huh? You’re some main character that dramatically cuts off their hair? You know that look is even uglier right?”
Keith’s face twists into a hurt expression, he expected some taunts from Lance, knew that his reaction would be bad, but he didn’t expect him to call him /ugly/.
He knew Lance hated him, but he never knew he hated him this much. He stares at Lance’s face, he looks like he’s disgusted at the mere fact that Keith /exists/.
Keith doesn’t know what to say, the whole scene in front of him becomes blurry all of a sudden.
Tears, he realizes.
No no no no no, he’s not gonna cry in front of Lance!
“awww, the guy with abandonment issues is gonna cryyy?? you gonna cryy?”
Keith can’t believe this, Lance has been mean to him, but never this much, something is wrong…
He starts panicking, his breaths coming quicker, his skin breaking out a sweat, tears flowing down his cheeks freely now.

.
He wakes up with heavy panting, just a dream, just a dream, you’re ok, you’re ok. He reminds himself again and again. Taking deep breaths, he calms himself down. He wipes his face, noticing the sweat on his forehead and tears on his cheeks.
He sighs, looks around for his datapad, and notices that breakfast will be ready in about half an hour.
He peels himself from the bed, washes his face, trying to wake himself up. Bits and pieces of the nightmare still playing on a loop in his head. Sighing again, he takes a look at himself in the mirror.
So the hair cutting wasn’t a dream huh? He really cut his hair…Just Lance’s reaction was part of the dream.
He briefly touches his shorter hair, they look really bad, well it’s the first time Keith has cut his hair, moreover, it was done with a knife, not scissors. So obviously there’s no neatness, the strands varying in lengths. It’s pretty clear that they were done by someone with zero experience in hair cuts.
He kinda regrets his decision now, but nothing can be done to fix it now. He’ll just have to live with it.
He brushes his teeth, tries to make his hair look a little presentable, but fails miserably.
Just when he’s about to open his door and head out to have breakfast, he stops.
What would the team say? How would they react? How would Lance react? What if it happens exactly like his dream? What if they all think he’s ugly as fuck now? Or immature? For cutting his hair on impulse like that?
He shakes his head, no use thinking about it when he knows he can’t get away from this situation, he’ll have to face the team eventually. Better deal with it as soon as possible and get it over with.
