Distractable

Summary:

Espresso is a coffee based cookie, he is a source of chaos every once in a while and Madeleine adores that about him.

Notes:

I also feel like Espresso wouldn't really be the petname type but he would call Madeleine slight nicknames and ever so often use petnames. Madeleine seems more like the petname type, taking it as a personal challenge to see what kinda names he could give the other to fluster or annoy him.
I am very passionate about these two if you couldn't tell-

Work Text:

Madeleine walked through the kingdom, signature smirk on his face. He waved to the cookies passing by, occasionally giving his friends high fives and fist bumps. He kept his head up, enjoying the way the blend blew through his cape and hair.

It was his day off, which meant he could finally have his date with Espresso. Madeleine hadn't told him yet, wanting to surprise his boyfriend with the idea. They hadn't had the chance to talk for a while, not with it being exam season. Espresso was always either supervising exams or grading them, while Madeleine had been getting called in for some kind of mission or task every day.

He didn't mind helping people, not one bit! He was just beginning to miss his boyfriend. As much as Espresso might grumble about their relationship publicly, Madeleine knew they were both a major source of comfort for each other.

He smiled at the thought of seeing his boyfriend, already feeling slightly giddy. He bounced with each step, excited to reach Espresso's house. He stopped in front of the door, briefly making sure his hair looked alright- of course, it did -before knocking on the door.

Madeleine put his hands behind his back, slightly bouncing as he waited. He knew he had keys to the mage's house, but didn't want to risk startling the other. There was quite a bit of rustling before the door swung open.

"What now? Oh-"

He watches as Espresso's glare instantly softens once he realizes who's standing in his doorway, a smile creeping onto his face. Madeleine laughs at his lover's expression and opens his arms- a silent invitation for a hug. Espresso nearly tackles him, making them both stumble with the sudden contact's momentum.

"Hey. bittersweet heart! It's nice to see you!" He giggled, holding his boyfriend close.

Espresso buries his face in Madeleine's shoulder, his voice slightly muffled by the fabric of his clothes.

"What on earthbread are you doing here?"

Madeleine chuckles and runs a hand through his hair.

"Well, it's my day off, so I decided to come and surprise you! I missed seeing your brew-ti-ful face." He smirked, way too proud of his own pun.

The mage let go of the hug, turning back into his apartment.

"Nope, you ruined it. Goodbye, Sir Madeleine! I shall never see you again." He said, walking away from the other.

Madeleine followed behind him, hastily shutting the door on his way in.

"Noo! Come on, love! Let me espresso my feelings for you! It's been a while- let's talk?" he teased, smile never leaving his face.

Espresso glared at him, the edges of his mouth shaking with the effort to hold back a smile. He lightly smacked the knight on the arm, to which Madeleine lightly smacked him back.

Espresso scrunches up his nose, smacking the other on his arm harder this time. It was a competition now. Madeleine hit back harder in return. The mage stopped and stared at his boyfriend, face blank for a second. Madeleine held his breath, waiting for the next move to happen. It was pretty normal for them- their weird version of tag mixed with roughhousing. The knight absolutely adored it.

Espresso slapped his arm lightning-fast and jumped back, glaring when he felt Madeleine smack him back. He jumped on the other, only to be snatched up like a sack of potatoes and slammed down on the couch, landing with a loud huff.

Madeleine stood over him, giggling with anticipation. Espresso jumped back up, smacking the other in the shoulder and making a run for the kitchen.

"Hey!" Madeleine called out, running after his boyfriend. "Cheater!"

"Everything is fair in love and war, dearest!"

Espresso laughs, using the kitchen table to put some distance between himself and the knight. Madeleine stops in front of the table, pushing off the edge for a small speed boost when he finally takes off in a direction, only to duck back the other way when Espresso did the same.

The mage smirks, mirroring his movements- moving from left to right without ever actually running from his place. Madeleine glares at him, then jumps on the table. Espresso lets out a scream of mixed fear and shock, running back to the living room.

He turns back just in time to see Madeleine enter the room after him. Espresso ducks backwards a bit too quickly, managing to avoid being tagged again- while also managing to trip over his coffee table and send himself falling to the floor.

Madeleine gasps, quickly reaching after him, grabbing his hand and pulling him back. He puts a hand under his back, effectively dipping him.

Espresso's breath catches in his throat. He stares into Madeleine's eyes, feeling his face heat up at their position. He grabs the other by the shoulder, holding on for dear life. Up close like this, Espresso could see exactly why so many cookies had crushes on his boyfriend. He averts his gaze, feeling his blush deepen more for every moment they spent like this.

Madeleine was staring back at his lover, mesmerized by his coffee shaped irises. Espresso gently reached up and tucked some of the knight's hair behind his ear from where it had been hanging in front of his face.

He pulled him up to a standing position and scratched the back of his neck, feeling embarrassed. Espresso turned his head away, coughing into his fist in a poor attempt to hide his flustered face.

"Thanks..." he mumbled.

"Don't mention it," he replied under his breath.

The fact that Madeleine wasn't taking this chance to show off and be overdramatic made him feel even more embarrassed. He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to get his heart to settle down.

He closed his eyes, sighing quietly. As he focused on the burning feeling in his face, he felt a light tap on his arm. He looked over at Madeleine, taking a moment to take in the stupid, proud smile on his face.

"Really, Madelle?" Espresso deadpanned.

Madeleine laughed and stepped from side to side, light on his feet. The mage smiled, reaching over to slap his lover back- only for him to step away. Espresso gasped dramatically, smile growing wider at the giggle it earnt him. Madeleine stepped back again to create more distance between them, his face flushed with excitement. He waited for Espresso's next step, and quite a step it was he took!

The mage jumped onto and over the coffee table, surprising the both of them with the fact that it didn't break. He reached for Madeleine, who dodged quickly and jumped on the couch to avoid his lover.

Espresso grabbed the edge of the comforters and quickly pulled them towards himself, making the other fall on his back. He took the chance and jumped up, pinning the knight down, making his face go a deep shade of red. Espresso laughed and laid down next to him, resting his chin on the other's chest. He took a few strands of Madeleine's loose blond hair and started braiding them messily.

"Do we both agree that I win this round?" the mage asked, still focused on styling his lover's hair. Madeleine laughed out loud.

"Absolutely not!"

He grinned, moving his hand to Espresso's back to pull him closer. He left a small peck on the other's face, earning a glare in response.

"I do agree about taking a break tho." He laid his head back, turning to hug his boyfriend fully. "It's pretty nice like this."

"I'm glad you find my couch comfortable," Espresso replied with a slight hint of sarcasm in his tone. Madeleine only hummed back in response, closing his eyes to enjoy the bitter coffee smell of his lover.

Espresso smiled to himself, still playing with Madeleine's hair. This wasn't exactly how he planned on spending the afternoon, but he wasn't complaining. As cheesy as he felt just thinking about it, he would trade any activity for spending time with the knight instead, any day of the week.

Madeleine thought back to the original idea of their date, contemplating for a second if he should bring it up before deciding against it. They could go out for dinner and go stargazing any day, after all. He was just happy they could be alone for a bit, even if it meant they had to parkour over a few tables.
