It's Thursday and Wei Wuxian is excited. Thursdays are usually exciting just for the mere fact that it signifies the beginning of the weekend. But for Wei Wuxian it holds a much deeper meaning. It's the one day a week his boyfriend is allowed to come over to his house for dinner. This of course was only allowed because Uncle Jiang had had to make an arrangement that would make old man Lan agreeable to his precious nephew dating Wei Wuxian.
Sometimes Wei Wuxian misses the days where he and his Lan Zhan would sneak around to see each other but after the big blow up of their families (mainly Lan Zhans uncle Qiren absolutely hating the idea of his perfect nephew being in a relationship with Wei Wuxian) this arrangement isn't too bad. They each go over to each other's homes for dinner once a week (Wei Wuxian goes over on Tuesdays) and they can spend every other weekend together. This all in hopes that both of them would still take school seriously and not fall behind. Wei Wuxian thinks it's silly but if it makes his boyfriend's life easier then he has no problem with it. Plus...what Uncle Qiren doesn’t know won’t hurt him (or Lan Zhan).
So with skip in his step Wei Wuxian sets off to find Lan Zhan so they can make their way over to his house. Lan Zhan is in a student council meeting that hopefully won’t take too long. Not that he really has a problem waiting for his boyfriend. It's just if they’re fast enough maybe they can have the house to themselves for a few minutes. The thought brings a warm feeling in Wei Wuxians chest. God he’s so in love.
Just as he turns the corner to the library, Wei Wuxian is abruptly stopped by Nie Huaisang.
“Wuxian!!” his friend calls out.
“Hey” he greets, a bit confused since he knows Huaisang and Lan Zhan were both at the student council meeting and Huaisanfg is the president. . Maybe it had ended earlier?
“Where’s Lan Zhan?” he asks as they come to stand in front of each other.
Nie Huaisang rolls his eyes at him in faux exasperation or ,maybe it's genuine, but Wei Wuxian can’t help but find it amusing either way. “Seriously? No, how are you? No, you look great today? No, have you done anything new to your hair?”
Wuxian laughs “Huaisang we saw each other at lunch.”
Huaisang sniffs “So?”
“So why would I continue to discuss how fabulous you look?” Wuxian teases.
Huaisang smiles at that “Because it's the truth, obviously.”
They both laugh at that before Huaisang clears his throat “Well anyway I stopped you because I forgot to mention earlier that I’m going to need your assistance for the school dance.”
“Isn’t that like three months away?” Wei Wuxian asks. He’s sort of become the go to DJ for school events ever since he managed to override the PA system at a school rally. The teachers had been upset but seeing the way the students responded to the music and Wei Wuxians enthusiasm made them all come to the agreement to make Wei Wuxian their go to person for school events including the dances. He still had to serve a week's worth of detention but at least he didn't get suspended.
“Yes, but the earlier we get started the better.” Huaisang replies sounding a bit annoyed.
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes but nods “Alright I’ll get started on some playlists then.”
“Perfect” Huaisang says before adding “Your boyfriend should be out soon he stayed back to speak to the Principal.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, apparently there's going to be a new student and they want Lan Wangji to show them around tomorrow.” Huaisang informs him.
“Ohhh, well that's exciting.” Wei Wuxian replies thoughtfully
“Is it?” Huaisang asks with a tilt of his head and a mischievous sparkle in his eyes.
“A little...it's the middle of the school year” Wei Wuxian says with a shrug. “It's a bit curious”
“True.” Huisang replies thoughtfully but still lacks any enthusiasm. Which is weird because Wei Wuxian knows his friend. Knows that Nie Huaisang loves to know everything about everyone. So that must only mean that ….
“You already know everything about them don't you?” Wuxian asks with narrowed eyes
Huaisang decides it is the perfect time to inspect his nails. “Maybe”
Wei Wuxian lets out a disbelieving breath “You’re incredible”
“I know” Nie Huaisang replies with a smile.
“So?” Wei Wuxian prompts.
“I really don’t know much, Wuxian,” Huaisang says, holding his hands up.
“I call bs.” Wuxian replies, narrowing his eyes at his friend and crossing his arms in front of his chest.
“Weeeell ...I might know somethings” Huaisang concedes, mischievous smirk forming on his lips
“Go on…” Wuxian prompts
“Her name is Lou Qinyang, she's transferring from Lanling High. She is coming in as a junior and will probably be in most of your accelerated classes since she is an honor roll student. She chose to transfer out after an argument with some of her peers thinking she's gotten so far because of her family. Speaking of, she's like second cousins to your almost brother in law.” Huaisang informs nonchalantly and Wuxian can’t help but be awed at his friends nosy abilities.
“Eww really?” Wei Wuxian exclaims scrunching up his nose in distaste “She's related to that awful peacock?”
“It appears so but my sources say she’s nothing like the main family.”
“Huh.” Wei Wuxian replies hoping Nie Huaisang was right. He couldn’t bear the thought of his poor Lan Zhan having to be around someone as pretentious and annoying as his awful almost brother in law.
“What else?”
“There really wasn’t much else except for her grades and the clubs she plans on joining.”
“That's not very thorough of you”
“Well I wanted to meet her in person” Huaisang says with a shrug “You know get a real feel for her”
Wuxian laughs “That sounds so weird ...and just a tad wrong”
“Oh shut up. You're the one asking me to dish out information” Huaisang replies, rolling his eyes.
“Yes, but only because Lan Zhan has to spend time with them. I have to make sure my boyfriend isn’t being assigned to some lunatic.” Wuxian replies like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
Nie Huaisang has to hold himself from replying that the only lunatic Wangji should have looked out for was Wuxian himself. Instead he replied “How thoughtful of you”
Wei Wuxian gives him a bright smile before saying “Well of course. I'm always ready to protect my man.”
Nie Huaisang returns his friend's smile “I didn’t take you for the jealous type Wuxian.. Between you and Lan Wangji, I always thought it was Wangji. Perhaps I was wrong.”
Wuxian scoff “Jealous? Who do I have to be jealous of?” he shakes his head incredulously before adding “I know my Lan Zhan is perfect and ridiculously hot, if anything people are jealous of me which is fine because they should be”
“So modest” Nie Huaisang teases.
“Always” Wuxian says with a wink.
“Well I should get going. Da-ge is going to take me out for dinner and he hates when I’m late.”
Wuxian nods in understanding. Nie Huaisangs older brother, Nie Mingjue, is a scary man. Especially if he's hungry. “Alright. See you tomorrow!” Wuxian replies and then he's alone.
He watches his friend leave and tries not to think too much of what the other meant when he said Wangji was the jealous type. And luckily for him he doesn’t have to because the next thing he knows Lan Wangji is making his way towards him.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian says enthusiastically, already feeling a smile on his lips.
His boyfriends eyes are filled with fondness as he gets closer and greets him “Wei Ying”
Lan Zhan gives him his special smile before leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to Wei Wuxians lips. Instantly Wei Wuxian feels whole again.
“Hey” he says shyly looking up into his boyfriends golden eyes
“Did you wait long?” his boyfriend asks, looking worried.
“Nah” he replies with a wave of his hand “I got here a few minutes ago and caught up with Huaisang. Apparently I’m needed for DJ once more”
“Mn” Lan Wangji says taking Wuxians hand and leading them out of the school “It had been mentioned during the meeting. I am sorry I was unable to have them consider someone else”
“Pffft, it's fine. I actually kind of like the power” Wuxian says, giving his boyfriend a smirk. Wangji just shakes his head fondly.
“What else you guys go over at the meeting?” Wuxian asks.
“Bake sales, funding for field trips, and a new student”
“So not a very fun meeting then?” Wuxian asks, looking over at his boyfriend who is holding the door open for him.
“Business as usual” Wangji says dryly, making Wuxian giggle. He loves that he's the only one that gets to hear Lan Wangjis dry humor.
“Yeah, Huaisang said you're gonna be showing the new student around.”
“Mn.”
“What kind of person do you think they are?” Wuxian asks, even though he already has a pretty good idea of what they may be like. He just wants to hear what Lan Wangji thinks.
Lan Wangji shrugs “I have not thought much on it”
“Really?” Wuxian asks incredulously “Lan Zhan you’re gonna have to be with them all day and you’re probably gonna be there go to person for any questions they may have”
Wangji just stares at him blankly.
“Lan Zhan, what if they’re mean?”
“Wei Ying will defend me” his boyfriend teases and Wei Wuxian can do nothing but completely stop and stare at his boyfriend shocked.
“Lan Zhan!!”
“You would not?”
“Of course I would but...
Lan Wangji just pulls him along and gives him a fond smile “It will be fine.”
Dinner with the Jiangs is loud. Or at least it always feels loud to Lan Wangji who is used to eating all his meals in comfortable silence with his brother and his uncle. But it isn’t bad. It's not overwhelming. He doesn't participate in the conversations going on around him unless he is directly addressed which suits him just fine. He enjoys getting to sit in on watching his boyfriend excitedly tell his siblings and his adoptive parents about his day. He likes watching the fond smile on Mr. Jiangs face and the way Mrs. Jiang tries to act indifferent but can’t quite keep her fondness out of her eyes for his boyfriend. He just can't help the happiness he feels seeing his boyfriend being appreciated. Being loved.
Because his boyfriend absolutely deserves it. Deserves being spoiled by his older sister. He may not understand the relationship Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian have but he knows it's what works for them and it makes them happy. They’re brothers just as he is with Lan Xichen and he knows just how important brothers are.
Wei Wuxians life has never been easy and getting to see him this happy makes Lan Wangji happy. After their meals Lan Wangji is always grateful he gets to be part of these moments. Because to him it feels like he's also part of the group of people Wuxian holds dear. His family.
Which someday he will be. Officially part of the family. Part of Wuxians life forever if he’s lucky. They’ve talked about it. Being each other's family when they’re done with school. They both know they are too young right now but eventually...they agree there can’t be anyone else.
“Right Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying asks, pulling Lan Wangji out of his thoughts.
“Mn” Lan Wangji easily agrees. He isn't too sure what he's agreeing to but he trusts Wei Ying not to set him up to anything embarrassing in front of his family.
Apparently he agreed to helping Wei Ying wash the dishes. Which isn’t bad. He enjoys the domesticity in the act. Wei Ying chatters at him about this and that and Lan Zhan will add in his two cents whenever appropriate. But then of course his boyfriend can’t help being a gremlin. Maybe if he had been paying more attention he could have avoided Wei Ying turning the faucet sprayer on him and getting him all wet.
Wei Yings laughter rings loud in the kitchen and Lan Wangji can do nothing but roll his eyes fondly at his boyfriend.
The night ends all too soon but Lan Wangji leaves happily knowing tomorrow is only a few hours away.
Morning arrives and with it comes the usual routine of waking up after the third time of snoozing his alarm and then scrambling to get ready as fast as Wei Wuxian possibly can. He knows he should get rid of his third alarm but he really needs those extra 5 minutes (more like fifteen but really why does school even have to start so early?). He rushes to get dressed and then brushes his teeth. He hears his brother yell from the kitchen that if he wants a ride to school he better be down in one minute.
It's a challenge Wei Wuxian easily accepts. Having this be part of daily routine he's become quite good at having everything he needs already packed. And because his beautiful sister knows him and how much he likes to sleep in, all Wei Wuxian has to do is run through the kitchen where an already packaged breakfast is waiting for him that he will of course eat in the car as his brother yells at him again for sleeping in.
Everything seems to be the same as every day. That is until Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng step into the school. There is a charge in the air and both brothers look at each other confused. They’re quickly pulled out of their silent conversation when Nie Huaisang skips his way over to them calling their names.
“Jiang Cheng! Wuxian!”
Both brothers smile at their friend. “Whats up?” Jiang Cheng asks
“Didn't Wuxian tell you?” Nie Huaisang asks
Wuxian eyes widen in surprise when both his brother and Huaisang turn to look at him. “What?”
Huaisang let's out a tired sigh while Jian Cheng rolls his eyes
“Telling him anything is useless when he’s got fucking gold fish memory” Jiang Cheng says and Huaisang laughs.
“Hey!” Wei Wuxian replies offended. He knows he has shit memory but is definitely not as bad as a goldfish....only sometimes. Or most of the time but really Jiang Cheng didn't have to be so mean.
“Am I wrong?” Jiang Cheng asks smirking at his brother
Asshole Wuxian thinks before replying “You are. I remember a lot of things. All the time.” he says with a huff before smirking evilly at his dear brother “Like, I remember the time you needed me to-”
Wei Wuxian takes great joy in watching his brother slowly realize what Wei Wuxian is remembering. A truly tragic event that in all honesty Wei Wuxian would never share. But his dear little brother doesn’t have to know that.
“SHUT UP” Jiang Cheng yells glaring at him. Wei Wuxian smirks at his brother. That will teach Jiang Cheng to make fun of him.
Huaisang looks between both of them intrigued “Oh?”
“I didn't tell you Huaisang?” Wei Wuxian says playing up the dramatics and then having to step away when Jiang Cheng launches himself at him.
Huaisang just stands to the side smiling amused at the brothers antics.
“Shut up Wei Wuxian!” Jiang Cheng yells chasing after his annoying brother.
“But I thought you said I had shit memory. I’m just trying to prove a point” he says as he runs behind Huaisang to use him as a shield.
Huaisang let's out an undignified squeal at being used. He loves to watch drama, not be a part of it.
“You’re a fucking menace” Jiang Cheng says as he tries to find an opening to Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian just cackles and swings Huaisang around to keep Jiang Cheng away.
“Alright alright I have had enough” Huaisang yells trying to get away from Wei Wuxians grip. “ I think we have strayed away from our original conversation”
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng blink at each other and then blink at Huaisang. Huaisang takes their moment of confusion to get away from Wei Wuxian.
Huaisang straightens his shirt then huffs at the two idiot brothers “We have a new student today” Huaisang says before turning on his heel and leaving the two brothers gaping behind him.
“Ohhh that's right.” Wei Wuxian says remembering his conversation with Huaisang and Lan Zhan just the day before. He doesn’t get to dwell on it much because he soon feels a slap to the back of his head.
“OW!” he yells out and glares at Jiang Cheng.
“Idiot” his brother says before turning to leave “Come on we’re gonna be late.”
“Asshole” Wuxian mutters before following his brother.
It isn’t until Wei Wuxian is settled in class that he realizes he doesn't have his phone. He hardly had time to think of his phone when he was rushing out of the door and then devouring his breakfast in the car on the way to school. Not to mention his little squabble with his brother as soon as they made it to school. He's not super attached to his phone regularly but now that he's settled he wanted to text his boyfriend. He was dying to know how it was going with the new student.
He knew it was probably going well but still he was curious. Now he would have to wait until fourth period. One of the few classes he shared with Lan Zhan. Great.
Without his phone Wei Wuxian is forced to actually pay attention in class. But that doesnt last very long so he does his next favorite thing... annoy his teachers. Most of them are used to his antics anyway so no one throws him out of class (anymore) and it makes class more interesting. At least in Wei Wuxians opinion it does.
Once his third class of the day ends Wei Wuxian practically bounces out of the room in excitement to see his beloved boyfriend and meet the new student. He hopes shes nice and nothing like her stupid cousin. The world definitely did not need more people like that.
He's humming to himself as he turns a corner and spots his boyfriend. A smile slowly starts forming on his lips at the sight. As he comes closer he notices a girl speaking to Lan Zhan. Ah the new student Wei Ying reminds himself. He sees she's smiling up at Lan Zhan and Wei Ying can’t help but feel proud. His boyfriend is very handsome and smart after all. He’s not so far away any more when he notices Lan Zhans ears have gone red. And...and he's smiling…?
An uncomfortable weight settles in Wei Wuxians stomach. What could they be talking about? What could have been said to make Lan Zhan blush? Who was this girl to make his boyfriend smile?! Does she even know how rare those are?!?
Wei Wuxian has no idea what comes over him but he quickens his pace and calls out Lan Zhans name. His boyfriend barely has time to greet him when Wei Wuxian has pulled him to him and crushed their lips together. Lan Zhan is stiff at first but easily returns the kiss making the weight in Wei Wuxians belly all but disappear. It's Lan Zhan who breaks the kiss and coughs uncomfortably before greeting him simply by “Wei Ying”
He feels his face go warm as he accidentally makes eye contact with the new girl. She has an amused look in her eyes and he can tell she's holding back a smile. And he knows...he knows why he’s feeling so embarrassed. He’s never ever pulled Lan Zhan and kissed him like that in front of people. Ever.
In private it's fine. And it's not like they’ve never kissed in public. There's no shame in love. It's just that this was different. It was different and the worst part of it all is it's obvious to this new girl who he only knows through Nie Huiasang. Because that awful feeling Wei Wuxian had gotten could only be that nasty green eyed monster. Jealousy.
Ugh thinking the word makes Wei Wuxian want to run and pretend this never happened. It had just taken him by surprise. The sudden urge to show this girl who he was to Lan Zhan. Show her he's the only one that gets to see his rare smiles and make him blush. It's so possessive and so not who he is. But he couldn't help it. So he does what he does best. Talk.
“Hi”he says to Lan Zhan as he squares his shoulders and looks at the new girl and gives her his brightest smile. “You must be the new student. I’m Wei Wuxian. Nice to meet you”
The new girl returns his smile and introduces herself as Lou Qingyang. There's a bit of an awkward pause but Lan Zhan is quick to pull them into the classroom. Wei Wuxian easily follows after his boyfriend and let's out a relieved sigh. That is until he makes eye contact with his boyfriend who's looking at him weird. Fuck.
He gets a few moments of peace while class starts when suddenly a note appears in front of him.
Surprised he looks over at Lan Zhan who is already looking at him expectantly. If this was any other day Wei Wuxian would be ecstatic to be receiving a note from his boyfriend in the middle of class. Passing notes is a big no no and his boyfriend is a stickler for the rules. But he knows now is not the time to tease so he looks back at the note and reads it.
Are you alright? It asks in Lan Zhans perfect script. Wei Wuxian sags in his seat. This has got to be the most embarrassing thing to happen to him in his life. Lan Zhan thinks he's gone crazy!!
He looks over at his boyfriend and gives a subtle nod but Lan Zhan does not look appeased. Which means they’re gonna talk. Wei Wuxian is going to have to explain his random ass behavior. Great. He tries to focus on class when he briefly catches the eye of Lou Qingyang. She gives him a polite smile before shifting her attention to whatever the teacher was saying.
Ah...WeI Wuxian will also have to make a better impression on the new girl. He definitely doesn't want her thinking he's some possessive psycho
How did this even happen to him?! He never gets jealous. Lan Zhan has never ever given him reason to feel like he has to stake claim or whatever bullshit people do. He knows of people that have crushes on his Lan Zhan but thats fine! He knows he's dating the most beautiful, smart, funny, nice guy in the whole school (possibly the world). He knows all this and yet…. The image of his Lan Zhan smiling and blushing pops into his head and that weird weight settles in his stomach. Ugh. He hates this.
He forces himself to pay attention for the rest of the period and when class is over he bolts to his next class with a quick goodbye to both Lan Zhan and Lou Qingyang. The rest of his day he spends trying to focus on his classes and figuring out how he's gonna explain himself to Lan Zhan. Lan Zhans probably gonna be annoyed. Or maybe he could get mad. What if he thinks Wuxian doesn't trust him? Or what if he also feels embarrassed?
The last question makes Wei Wuxian feel sick. If Lan Zhans was embarrassed, would it be because Wei Wuxian was embarrassing? Jiang Cheng certainly thought he was. So then maybe that could mean Lan Zhan was ashamed of him? No no that couldn’t be right. Lan Zhan loved him.
And yet another thought more terrible than the last creeped it's way into his mind. What if Lan Zhan liked Lou Quingyang? He had been blushing after all. And he had been smiling. Lan Zhan didn’t do that for just anyone. For fuck sake it took Wei Wuxian a whole year to see a hint of a smile!! What could she have possibly said to him!! Or was it that she was really pretty?
His thoughts are interrupted when his teacher calls on him to answer a question he definitely didn’t hear. So much for trying to focus he thinks to himself looking around for clues to answer his teachers question.
“Umm Chloride?” he says and everyone stares at him wide eyed.
“Correct.” His teacher says flustered before going back to writing notes on the board. Wei Wuxian sags in his seat immediately. He got lucky but he really should be paying attention. The last thing he needs is to get detention. That would really round out his day as the worst day ever.
The final bell for his last class rings and Wei Wuxian decides to take his time before meeting up with Lan Zhan. He wants to get his thoughts and hopefully words together before seeing him. Not that an extra two minutes will really give him all the right words but at least maybe his nerves will settle. Plus it's not like he doesn’t know Lan Zhans is going to be wrapping up with his tour guide duties.
But then should he rush over? Just to check everythings good? What if Lou Qingyang puts the moves on his Lan Zhan? Lan Zhan is too nice he might not even notice!?!? And well she is pretty...what if Lan Zhan likes her?
Wei Wuxian mentally shakes himself. Where the fuck were these thoughts even coming from? He’s never had these thoughts before. Why was this happening to him?
The answer to his question comes in the form of Lou Quinyang walking away from his Lan Zhan and his Lan Zhan watching her leave with his ears a faint shade of red.
Oh yeah...that's why Wei Wuxian is a mess today. He briefly thinks of running away and telling Lan Zhan he just isn't feeling well (which technically isn’t lying because Wei Wuxian definitely feels like he’s losing it). He doesn’t though because Lan Zhan turns and instantly spots him. Wei Wuxian takes a steadying breath before making his way to his boyfriend.
He is not a coward. He can do this. Everything is fine.
“Wei Ying” Lan Zhan greets and Wei Wuxian tries to give his boyfriend his best smile. He knows he's not fooling the other when he notices the concern in Lan Zhans eyes. Curse Lan Zhan for knowing him so damn well.
“Hey Lan Zhan” he says and takes the others hand in his. He doesn't feel comfortable going for a kiss after he practically mauled his boyfriend earlier. He feels Lan Zhan squeeze his hand and feels a small bit of relief. At least there's still this form of contact.
“Are you ready to head home?” Lan Zhan asks, searching Wei Wuxians face.
Wei Wuxian nods “Yeah I’m ready” he replies. Lan Zhan stares at him for a second longer before they make their way out of the school. Wei Wuxian thinks he should say something. Maybe he could start off with a joke? Or should he just jump right into it? But what should he say?! Does he apologize? What if he just pretends nothing is wrong?
“Wei Ying are you sure you are alright?” Lan Zhan asks and Wei Wuxian wishes his boyfriend wasn’t so observant.
“Yeah...why wouldn’t I be?”
“Wei Ying is quiet.” Lan Zhan says simply.
Wei Wuxian scoffs “I can be quiet sometimes”
“When you are sleeping” Lan Zhan says a hint of a smirk on his lips. The fucking jerk.
“Lan Zhaaaan” Wei Ying whines
“Or when Wei Ying is upset.” Lan Zhan adds and the concern in his eyes is there again. Damn it. Wei Wuxian knew he wouldn't be able to avoid this and yet he still hoped.
“I’m not upset.” he starts looking at Lan Zhan and hoping he can read that he is telling the truth. Lan Zhan continues walking, giving Wei Wuxian to continue. “I guess I’m a little embarrassed”
Lan Zhan raises an eyebrow at that.
“Earlier...when I kissed you. I...I went a little overboard.”
“Mn” Lan Zhan hums and Wei Wuxian sighs “I just...I don't know what came over me…”
Lan Zhan stays silent next to him and Wei Wuxian doesn’t want to say out loud the real reason because then it would be true and god why was this so hard?
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable” he says instead and is surprised when Lan Zhan stops abruptly to look at him. He almost trips but of course Lan Zhan steadies him.
“There is no need for apologies between us” he says before giving him a small smile “Plus I enjoyed it”
Wei Wuxian jaw drops. Did his boyfriend really just say that?? Did Lan Wangji the boy who never broke the rules and is a model student really say that out loud?!
“Lan...Zhan” Wei Wuxian breathes feeling his cheeks heat up at the way Lan Zhan is looking so fondly at him.
“I enjoy all your kisses” Lan Zhan adds
“Lan Zhan!!” Wei Wuxians exclaims scandalized. What has gotten into his boyfriend today?! Are they both losing it?
Lan Zhan just shrugs at him like it's nothing. This boy is surely going to be the death of him Wei Wuxian thinks to himself.
“Does Wei Ying not feel the same?” Lan Zhan asks, leaning closer to Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian can do nothing but stare slack jaw at his boyfriend. It takes him a moment to get his brain to stop short circuiting.
“Of course!” he says, feeling his face burn. Lan Zhan huffs (his version of a laugh) before he leans in and kisses Wei Wuxian. And Wei Wuxian feels absolutely silly for being jealous earlier and for making his day so much harder than it needed to be. To think he had ruined his day with all his ridiculous thoughts.
When they pull apart Wei Wuxian knows he has to tell the truth. So he looks up at his boyfriend and gives him a shy smile.
“So maybe...I do know why I kissed you the way I did.”
“Because I am irresistible?” Lan Zhan jokes and Wei Wuxian is shocked for the millionth time today. He chuckles at his ridiculous boyfriend because he can’t help himself. How people thought Lan Zhan was boring he’d never understand. Well maybe only certain people could tell he wasn’t...like Lou Qingyang.
“You are” Wei Wuxian agrees before adding “but that's not the only reason.”
Lan Zhan tilts his head to the side and waits for Wei Wuxian to continue. “I...I noticed you and Lou Qingyang talking and ...maybe I ...I just felt a little bit jealous”
This makes Lan Wangjis eyes widen. “Wei Ying was jealous?”
“Mn.” Wei Wuxian replies feeling his face get hot as Lan Zhan looks at him bewildered.
“I...really?” Lan Zhan asks sounding so hopelessly confused that Wei Wuxian feels like an even bigger idiot for feeling jealous earlier.
. “Yeah… I mean I know you love me and we’ve been together for so long...and I just” Wei Wuxian tries to explain but he really doesn’t know how to say the right words to explain himself. So he just blurts it out.
“You were smiling earlier” Wei Wuxian says and watches as Lan Zhan looks more confused so he carries on hoping Lan Zhan will catch on “And and you were blushing...a little… you know with your ears”
Lan Zhan blinks at him before he let's out a chuckle. An actual chuckle that completely takes Wei Wuxans breath away. If Lan Zhans smiles were rare his actual laughter was almost non-existent. Wei Wuxian wishes he could enjoy this moment but he feels even more like a fool than he had all day.
“Lan Zhaaaan” he whines but it's hard to be mad when the sound of his boyfriends laughter is so infectious “Don’t laugh at me” he tries to pout but ends up smiling as Lan Zhan tries to take a deep breath to settle himself.
“Wei Ying should not be funny then” Lan Zhans says, pulling Wei Wuxian close to him.
“Lan Zhaaan” Wei Wuxian complains “Thats impossible”
“Mn”
“Look I know it sounds crazy but...you don’t really smile..” Wei Wuxian says in an attempt to get back on the topic at hand.
“I smile.” Lan Zhan says with a shrug
“Rarely.” Wei Wuxian replies before poking Lan Zhan in the chest “Usually it's only with me.” he whispers.
“Wei Ying always knows how to make me smile” Lan Zhan confirms.
“Look I’m not saying you can’t smile at others or anything it's just….it took me so long to see you smile and she did it in a day…”Wei Wuxian explains feeling so vulnerable saying it out loud.
“Wei Ying should not worry.” Lan Zhan says before kissing the side of Wei Wuxians face “All my smiles are yours.”
“So you aren’t even a little attracted to Lou Qingyang?” Wei Wuxian can’t help but ask.
“No.” Lan Zhan replies seriously.
“So then why were you blushing and smiling?” Wei Wuxian asks, trying not to feel embarrassed about the smug little smile Lan Zhan has on his lips.
“We were talking about relationships '' Lan Zhan explains simply.
Wei Wuxian blinks at Lan Zhans response. Relationships. They were talking about relationships? And what? “She asked you if you were in a relationship?” Wei Wuxian asks. So she was trying to put the moves on her man!
“No.” Lan Zhan replies and the little smirk won’t leave his lips. Wei Wuxian wishes he could smack him but he needs answers.
“Then?” Wei Wuxian prompts.
“She had to call her girlfriend because the other kept texting her to make sure she was settled in” Lan Zhan explains.
“Oh…” Wei Wuxian says dumbly. Because even if his boyfriend is being annoyingly vague, that all kind of makes sense.
“Mn.”
“So you guys started talking….and you smiled because of me?” Wei Wuxian asks. If the situation was reversed, Wei Wuxian is sure that anyone who even mentions Lan Zhan would put a smile on his face.
“Wei Ying is very smart” Lan Zhan replies, smiling fondly at him.
“No, I'm an idiot” Wei Wuxian says feeling defeated. God he really had blown the whole situation up hadn’t he?
“My idiot.” Lan Zhan is quick to say.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian exclaims because his stupid boyfriend is too cute and far too sweet.
“No, I got it wrong.” Lan Zhan says giving Wei Ying another quick kiss on the cheek. “Wei Ying is my very handsome smart boyfriend”
Wei Wuxian scoffs “Oh shut up.” he says shaking his head “Why do you get the feeling you like this?”
“Like what?” Lan Zhan asks but there is a bit of playfulness in his eyes that only help to confirm what Wei Wuxian has started to suspect.
“That I felt a little jealous.” Wei Wuxian replies.
“Its nice” Lan Zhan says nonchalantly. Like it's nothing. Wei Wuxian adores him.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying gasps. “So shameless”
“Mn” Lan Zhan says before kissing Wei Ying on the lips this time.
With all that mess cleared up, Wei Ying is back to being himself. He knows he’s gonna have to probably apologize to Lou Quingyang for his behavior but maybe she’ll understand. He still feels silly for working himself up earlier. How could he ever feel jealous when Lan Zhan clearly only has eyes for him?
