You fill up my senses, like a night in the forest.

Summary:

Keeley comes home to a few surprises from Roy

Notes:

Firstly, thankyou so much for all the love on my previous work, you guys are the best! It really meant a lot to me, especially after I haven't written for so long. So much love for all of you!
Secondly, I was squealing with excitement writing this. It was originally supposed to be a one shot, but I kept getting inspiration and kept adding bits so now it's a multi-chapter story.
Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain

Chapter Text

Roy’s car isn’t here. Which she knows means Roy isn’t here. He left before her, didn’t he? She knows this because she got stuck with a very excited Isaac McAdoo who had just been given a year’s supply of free Rolos and was telling her in great detail what he could do with them. Not unlike the shrimp scene in Forrest Gump, she thinks, if the guy in it was as excited as Ted Lasso on Christmas morning after three coffees and an entire box of candy canes.
While lamenting the absence of Roy’s car in the driveway, she didn’t even realise her hand was resting on her still flat belly. It had become subconscious habit over the last few weeks, and not one she cared to break, she thought with a smile. They had decided not to tell anyone just yet, preferring instead to keep this delightful little secret to themselves for the time being. It was worth it too, just to feel Roy’s hand on her belly when they thought no one was looking. She’d put hers on top, and damn her if her whole body didn’t vibrate with love for this adorable man.
Keeley keeps smiling as she makes her way to the front door, noticing a post it stuck to the middle. She recognises Roy’s handwriting (he leaves her notes often. In her handbag. In her planner. Stuck to the life size cut out of him in her office that he will never tell anyone makes him a little bit proud. Another little secret they had, she thinks, which makes her smile even brighter), and a single word.

Upstairs.

She takes the post it and opens the door, slightly surprised to see no sign of Roy anywhere. She thinks he might possibly be in the bathroom, perhaps waiting in the bath (he still hasn’t given Phoebe’s light back, and they have made sure it gets used to its full potential), so she can’t help but feel deflated when she opens the bedroom door to nothing. Her bedside light is on, but that’s all to suggest anyone was here. As Keeley gets closer to the bed, she notices an outfit laid out on it. A navy-blue velvet skirt, all flowy and dotted with silver so it looks like diamonds are dancing on it in the light. Above it is a white top, silky and loose and divine (this pregnancy has made her boobs bigger, something she nor Roy are complaining about, but until they tell people she’s trying to draw less attention to her larger assets lest they give the game away. They also mean tight tops make her feel uncomfortable and a bit sore, so Roy’s choice of top could not be more perfect and the thought is not lost on her). A pair of gold wedges complete the outfit, and Keeley notices another Post-it stuck on the bed next to the shoes.

Put this on.
PS hair out please.

Keeley can feel excitement bubbling in her chest, fizzing in her brain, making her see more stars than are on her skirt. She dresses quicker than she ever has (unless you count that time that Phoebe almost caught them having sex in the kitchen and she had to pretend to look for peanut butter with her pyjamas on inside out), shakes her hair loose of its ponytail (she knows Roy loves when her hair is out) and twirls around to look in the mirror. Keeley almost can’t believe what she sees in her reflection- her normal bubble-gum pink and bright colourful clothing choice is nothing like what she is wearing, but oh wow she suddenly feels beautiful. The velvet skirt pools around her hips and legs like a galaxy, soft and gorgeous and full of stars. Her hair cascades in sunny curls down her back, and the silky top flaunts her chest while at the same time makes her feel like she’s wearing a cloud. As Keeley looks at this softer, sparkly version of herself she feels overwhelmed by the thought Roy put into her outfit, how she didn’t think she could look beautiful without all her vibrant colours and jewellery but here she is looking oh so pretty and she wishes Roy was here so she could tell him just how amazing he is. She decides to text him to find out where he is, until she sees something stuck to the corner of her mirror. And butterflies start a dance in her head when she realises it’s another note from Roy.

And this one has an address.
