    Buck had always known he was broken. Deficient, wrong, always just something off with him. He was literally born with defective parts. From day 1 he’d failed to do the things expected of him.

    So, honestly, not presenting as anything wasn’t that much of a shock as it should have been. The shock didn’t come on till much later when he spiralled into a research binge and realised how rare it actually was for someone not to present as anything.

    But it was fine, the majority of articles said that it wasn’t always triggered with puberty and that some people didn’t present at all until near the end of their teens. They all seemed to agree that once you hit 21, you were well past the threshold of late and were sitting firmly in against the odds.
