Work Text:
Being the last true Jedi was incredibly difficult. You had been trained by Luke and you were trying to train Rey, but you were starting to feel completely drained. The jungle moon of Ajan Kloss had been a good place for Rey to learn, but you felt so much pressure for her to do it quickly. It almost felt like you were being swallowed whole.
You were a few years older than Kylo and were the only other person to survive the burning down of the last Jedi temple. You acted as a spy for the resistance for a while, studying the dark side under Kylo, but your cover was eventually blown by Hux and you had to flee back to the resistance. When you did so, Poe and Leia were thrilled to have you home. You had to fight Kylo in your escape, but you made it out with all of your limbs (You were all thankful for that). Poe ran up and hugged you when your rescue ship landed. You held him too, hugging him around his middle so tightly that you were almost hurting him. He had his head buried in your neck. He told you that he had never been more afraid of losing someone. Leia could tell that you were worn out and wanted you to take a rest, but then Poe was captured and Rey appeared, so your rest was cut very short.
The death of your mentor was also not an easy thing to process. Your training with Rey was going well, but Leia could sense your failing body. She told you to leave Rey to meditate for a few days, but you didn’t listen.
You were out in the jungle with Rey, lightsabers in hand. You were dueling, nothing was out of the ordinary. Your connection to the force was weaker than usual, but other than that you thought you were doing okay. Until you felt your legs give out under you. “Master y/l/n? Master y/l/n!” You could hear Rey’s voice calling out to you, but it was incredibly distorted. The distorted version of her voice was the last thing you heard before your body gave out completely.

You awoke in your home. The resistance had set up a few cottages on the moon of Ajan Kloss as the beginnings of a new base. You, Poe, Finn, and Rey had been sharing one of the larger ones since it had been built. Finn and Rey were getting tired of you and Poe dancing around each other’s feelings, but that didn’t change anything. Poe was sitting on the edge of his bed, his head was in his hands. Finn was sitting on the edge of Poe’s nightstand and Rey was leaning against the bedroom door frame. Leia was looking over your bookshelf at the far end of the room. None of them realized you were awake yet (or so you thought). “General Organa has been telling her to rest for weeks. Why hasn’t she taken a rest?” Poe questioned. He ran his hands up and down his cheeks.
“It is hard to rest when you know that there is much to be done,” Leia started, “I thought she would listen to me, but she did not. “It is to the point that I think we need to force her to rest.”
“How do we do that?” Rey asked.
“Dameron,” Leia called.
“Yeah?”
“You stay with her. Just for a few days, both of you rest here. This cottage is a fairly peaceful place and should be a good enough place for her to recharge her energy. You keep her company and make sure she doesn’t do too much.” Leia made her way toward the door and motioned for Rey and Finn to follow her. “And maybe tell her how you feel, Poe.”
Poe rolled his eyes as the trio left. You slowly sat up. “Did you hear all of that?” Poe asked, still sitting on his bed.
“Yeah…”
“I love you, you know. I wish you would take better care of yourself. I am so afraid of losing you.”
“I’m sorry, Poe. I love you too.”
