I'm Hearing Wedding Bells!

Summary:

Glimmer and Bow's Wedding!

Work Text:

It was a normal day at Brightmoon’s precinct, Catra was doing just fine with her usual morning coffee. She arrived at the precinct and sat down on her chair… But where is everybody?

Then, something on the rooftop caught her attention. A lot of people were standing quietly, like they were expecting something. She got up and walked to the door that led her to the roof and…

“Glimmer Takahashi, will you marry me?” Bow was down on one knee and tearing up while Glimmer had both hands covering her mouth in shock. It looked like everyone was about to cry, except for Netossa, of course.

“Yes! I’ll marry you!” Bow put the ring on Glimmer’s finger and they kissed passionately, everyone cheered.

Everyone congratulated the couple and left the rooftop to get back to work. Glimmer and Bow came to her and the man hugged Catra and his fianceé hugged Adora, who had given up from trying not to cry, red faced and smiling.

Catra did not cry… Just a little bit.

“Finally had the guts, huh, Bow?” The man pulled from the hug and smiled at his best friend.

“Yeah, thanks to you.” Adora and Glimmer turned to them, confused.

“What did you do?” Adora asked, drying the tears away from her grayish eyes with her hand and a soft smirk on her face. Catra felt like drowning in those gray pools for a second, but immediately recovered.

“You know how inspirational I can be.” She smirked back.

After some moments of talking and crying a bit more, they remembered they had work to do and entered the precinct’s office.

“I’m so happy for them,” Adora said from her desk, in front of Catra. “That was so adorable, Bow was so nervous before Glim showed up.” She smiled at the recent memory.

“Yeah, I just wish I got there sooner, stupid Brightmoon traffic…” Catra grumbled and furrowed her eyebrows, Adora smiled at the girl’s grumpiness, it was kinda cute.

“I wonder when someone will do something like that for me…” Woah, it went from ’awe moment’ from ‘self deprecating life thoughts’. Too fast for Catra’s taste.

“Hey, I’m sure someone will, don’t worry about that.” Catra gave her a disbelieving look. Why was Adora so insecure, anyway?

Catra’s words didn’t penetrate into Adora’s head like the way she wanted. The blonde still seemed sad. “It’s just…” She hesitated, “Nevermind… What matters is that Glimmer and Bow are happy.” She gave Catra a forced smile and went to do something.

Catra couldn’t understand.. Now that she thinks of it, who wouldn’t want Adora? She’s smart, funny, and absolutely beautiful. Oh no…

About a month later, Glimmer and Bow already had the wedding date and were thrilled. Bow texted Catra to go to the men’s bathroom out of nowhere, he said he had something to ask.

“If you are asking me to wipe your ass….” She trailed off because whaaat?

There was a sign hanging from one stall to another saying ‘Will you be my best man?’ and a beaming Bow looking at Catra expectantly.

“So… Will you?” He seemed hesitant. That was stupid, Catra was honored to be her best friend’s best man.

“What are you talking about? Of course!” Then she was crushed by a stupidly hard hug. She wasn’t a big fan of physical contact but she let this time pass.

They got out of the bathroom and Catra saw Adora hugging Glimmer and “yes yes yes yes!” Glimmer probably asked Adora to be her maid of honor.

Some time later, Catra encountered Adora in the kitchen, making coffee for herself. The girl was smiling, full of glee. Catra opened the fridge to get an apple.

“So, looks like we’re more important than the other guests” Catra bit on the apple, smirking. Adora rolled her eyes, still smiling.

“Shut up.” Adora’s coffee was done and she blew on it to cool it a little. She took a sip and her whole face scrunched up. “Too bitter.” She put some sugar on it.

Catra laughed and Adora glared at her. “You’re such a pussy, Can’t take a bitter coffee. I bet you don’t do shots either.” Adora looked offended and scoffed.

“Just because I don’t like my coffee without sugar, doesn’t mean I don’t do shots.” The look on her face was hilarious.

“Alright alright. So… How does this best man / maid of honor thing work?” Catra was genuinely confused, she didn’t have time to google it.

“So, basically the best men and maids of honor are in charge of helping the groom and the bride get dressed, picking the suit or dress and taking care of the transportation, and of course, planning the bachelor party.” Adora said it like it was the simplest thing in the world.

“How do you know all of this?” Adora blushed at that and gave Catra a sheepish grin.

“Oh, you know me… I have binders for everything.” Adora finished her coffee, gave Catra a smile and walked up to her desk. That smile didn’t look so genuine

Catra followed her, “Are you sure you’re okay?” She sat down in her chair.

“What are you talking about? I’m fine.” Adora furrowed her brows and quirked her mouth to the side. Catra did not buy it.

“Come on, tell me.” Adora sighed.

“My stupid brother is going to the wedding” She whined and rested her head on the table, hitting it a little too hard, making Catra cringe.

“So I’m finally going to meet Adora Pritchett’s twin brother? Wow, lucky me.” She teased the girl. Adora lifted her head a little.

“I wish I didn’t have a brotherrr” Catra rolled her eyes playfully and ruffled Adora’s hair, messing up her ponytail.

“Catra” Adora lifted her head, pissed that the girl ruined her perfect ponytail with a perfect little poof on top. She took her hair out completely and combed it with her fingers while looking up. Catra was glad the girl didn’t see her staring at Adora with her golden hair down, but soon it was up again.

“Come on, it’s not that bad! I don’t even have siblings!” Catra always wanted a sibling. She was so alone all the time. Just her and her dad. Adora noticed the sudden sadness in Catra’s words and took her hand.

“Hey, I don’t get that because I have Adam, but I’m sure you have fun with your dad. Besides, siblings can be a pain in the ass.”

Catra smiled, it was uncommon to hear Adora say words like that, only on some occasions when she really meant it. “Thanks ‘Dor,” She smiled softly at the blonde who squeezed her hand before letting go.

“No problem, Cat.” Catra raised an eyebrow at that.

“Really? Cat? Catra is already my nickname.” Adora just chuckled.

“Wedding day y’all!” Catra shouted in the precinct. It was a Sunday, so there were fewer people working. She entered the meeting room to see a bunch of people standing near Glimmer, who was in a silk robe; Makeup, hair and nails. They even put a full body mirror there!

Catra went to look for Bow when she encountered Adora, who had makeup on, in a silk robe as well, drinking some water. “Oh, hi Catra!” She waved.

“Hey Adora.” She smirked, looking up and down at the girl, who was now aware of what she was wearing because she blushed furiously.

“This,” Adora pinched the silk material that rested on her shoulders, “Is only until I put on my dress.” Catra did not blush at the sight of Adora’s perfectly long neck.

She decided to change the subject “Hey, have you seen Bow?” Adora pointed to the briefing room. She ran there and busted the door open expecting to see a very excited and beaming Bow, But, instead, she saw Bow really anxious, like he was about to cry.

“Hey, hey, you ok, buddy?” She bent down over to where the groom was sitting, he looked at her with tears in his eyes.

“I’m so nervous, I’m gonna barf. What if I ruin everything? What if Glimmer calls off the wedding?” Catra cringed at that.

“Please don’t barf at me.” She chuckled, hoping it would bring a smile to his face. Unfortunately, it didn’t.  “Look, I’m not the best person to talk about feelings, but I can guarantee Glimmer loves you and this is going to be an amazing wedding. You’re this precinct’s power couple, if not the whole world! You are perfect for each other.” She gave him a reassuring smile that he thankfully responded.

“Now come on, you look stupid crying on the floor.” She stood up and offered her hand to Bow.

She helped him put on the suit’s jacket (she was a little uneasy when Adora said that best men help grooms get dressed) and he did his own bow-tie. Catra was glad her suit didn’t have a tie.

Catra pushed her sleeve up and glanced at the clock, it was time to drive to the wedding avenue. “Hey, man.” Bow looked at her and she gave a kind grin “It’s time.”

Catra insisted on driving Bow’s car and Glimmer went with Adora in another car.

The venue was amazing, Angella contracted a gigantic house that was specifically for parties and stuff. A couple of guests were already there.

Catra encountered Scorpia and her wife, Perfuma, who were dressed in a off-the-shoulder red formal dress which hugged her waist perfectly and a floral rosé dress that almost reached the floor, respectively

They complimented Catra’s suit and just kept waiting alongside the brunette to enter the altar.

Catra went to check on Bow but the staff told her to stay there, as they were about to start the ceremony.

She was in a little room with the other people that were supposed to enter - Groomsmen, Bridesmaids, the Flower Girl, the Ring Bearer - ...But where’s the Maid of Honor?

“Oh hey, Catra! It didn’t start, did it?” There she was. Catra’s eyes went wide and her face heat up. She was wearing her hair down, wavy at the bottom and light makeup; her dress was simple, but it made her look amazing, like some delicate spark of bliss; the color of the dress was a grey-lilac and matched Adora’s whole being perfectly. She was also wearing a hydrangea with dahlias corsage on her left wrist. Catra couldn’t help but stare at the gorgeous woman in front of her. I'm so gay.

“No, it didn’t. You look great.” Adora blushed at that and smiled.

“Thank you. You don’t look so bad yourself.” Then, some soft music played in the background and Catra saw Bow’s dads walking down the altar. Both sharp in white tuxedos.

After, Angella walked in with a blue-ish purple dress that had kind of a cape veil behind her.

Then, it was the groom’s time to shine. Glanced at Catra, searching for some comfort and approval. She smiled and gave him thumbs up.

Scorpia, Perfuma and Mermista walked as Glimmer’s bridesmaids alongside two of Bow’s brothers and SeaHawk.

The staff told Catra to walk with Adora now.

Catra offered the blonde girl her arm, which she took immediately, “Ready, Ms. Fairy?” She looked at Adora.

Adora nodded and they entered, “Seriously? Ms. Fairy?” Catra could sense her rolling her eyes but still grinning. “Is it because of the dress?” No, if it was for the dress, Catra would’ve called her an angel. “Glimmer let everyone pick their clothing.” Adora looked at Catra.

“That’s our cue.”, and with that they parted ways. Catra went to stand next to Bow, she rubbed his arm with a little pat to make sure he was okay. Bow smiled at Catra.

When she looked at the big corridor, there was Bow’s nephew as the Ring bearer, carrying the rings on a fluffy pillow or something. It was kinda cute, she’ll admit.

Entered Frosta, Glimmer’s adoptive sister as the Flower girl, clearly not wanting to be there, since she was almost twelve and thought this was kid’s stuff. Just throwing a mix of purple, yellow and white flower petals around the carpet. She looked at Adora, who was looking at Frosta with awe, as the girl stopped in front of her and whispered ‘Shut up’ to Adora.

Then, the  started to play ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Kina Grannis as everyone stood up and looked at the door expectantly.

Glimmer entered, looking like an angel, holding a bouquet of pink and white roses, pink and purple hair put up in a fancy bun with her bang swept to the side and some hair clip with crystals on it. Accompanied by Micah, who was already crying. Catra looked at Bow, in the middle of his first sight at the woman he loves as a bride. Catra couldn’t imagine the rush of getting married.

The bride and groom met and left everyone, including themselves in tears. There wasn’t a single dry eye to be seen. Catra teared up a little too.

Everyone sat down and the officiant started talking.

"We are gathered here on this beautiful day to witness the union of Glimmer Takahashi and Bow Petersen in holy matrimony. This is a day of great celebration, for a married life - a shared life - is a great blessing.”  Glimmer sighed, smiling so hard, Catra thought her cheeks were going to explode.

“As Glimmer and Bow embark on this journey together they will be able to nurture a love that makes them better versions of themselves. Marriage is a garden we sow with love, and harvest in personal growth.

Glimmer and Bow, on your journey together, keep your spouse in the space of highest priority in your heart. The love that you share must be guarded and cherished forever, for it is your most valuable treasure.” The couple squeezed each other’s hands.

“Always remember these words; Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."

The officiant made a pause.

"You have chosen to write your vows, and it is with these words you express your binding promises to love, honor, and cherish one another. If you are ready to make these promises to each other I invite you now to face each other and declare your intentions. When you're ready you may begin.”

Bow turned to Catra to get his vow, Glimmer did the same with Adora and the girls kissed each other's cheeks while Catra gave Bow an one-armed hug. Glimmer was the first one to talk.

“Bow, I love you. You’re my best friend, my soulmate and my whole world. I will always love you. I hope the future brings us many and many blessings. But everyday is one when I’m with you.” She wiped a tear from her face. “I hope you will trust me, care for me and stay by my side, because I trust you, I care for you and I’ll always be by your side. I love you and I’m yours forever.” She sniffed and Catra saw Adora wiping a tear that had fallen from her eyes with her hand. It was useless, more tears were about to fall anyway.

“Glimmer, you’re the love of my life, I hope you know that. I can’t believe I’m so lucky to have met you, have you and now, being able to marry you. I love you, I could spend all day saying that to you. When I’m with you, I’m not scared of anything. You’re the most beautiful, kind and amazing person I've ever met in my life. I love you so much.” Bow’s eyes were a waterfall as were Glimmer’s and their parents. And Scorpia.

The officiant started talking again.

"Thank you for sharing your vows with all of us. The rings you are about to place on each other's fingers are symbols of the love you expressed. They will remind you of the vows you have just spoken, and of the eternal love that you have for one another."

Bow’s nephew - Lucas, Catra remembered - gave them both the rings and then went to stand by Catra’s side again. Alright, the kid was really cute.

"Glimmer, place the ring on Bow's finger and repeat after me: As this ring encircles your finger…From this moment forward...So will my love forever encircle you...You will never walk alone...My heart will be your shelter...My arms will be your home...We will walk thru life as partners & best friends...I promise to do my best to love, cherish and accept you...Just the way you are...I give you my heart until the end of time...I have no greater gift to give."

Glimmer put the ring on Bow’s finger and repeated the words, looking in his eyes and smiling. The officiant turned to Bow and asked for the same thing. The Groom did as asked without hesitation, placing the ring on Glimmer’s finger and caressing it. Glimmer let out a laugh/sob.

"By the power given to me by the Etherian Marriage Ministries and by the State of Brightmoon, I now pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may kiss each other." By the time the officiant said those words they were already kissing passionately. The kids who were there cringed.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my honor to present for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Petersen!" The newly wed couple were washed in cheers and flower petals as they exited the altar. Catra and Adora following behind as well as the groomsmen and bridesmaids.

The ceremony was followed by a wedding reception, in which people were eating and sitting at the tables they were destined.

Catra was getting food for herself, she got Caprese with mozzarella and some baked potatoes when Adora showed up by her side, looking at Catra’s plate, then at Catra’s face.

“What?” Adora raised an eyebrow at her.

“Are you seriously not going to eat any salad?” Not bothering to hear Catra’s response, she put some lettuce leaves and tomatoes on her plate.

“Geez, go easy on her, ‘Dora.” An unfamiliar voice came from behind Adora and the blonde closed her eyes and sighed. The person stepped to Adora’s side and… It was Adora’s male version.

“Hey, I’m Adam. Adora is my clone.” He offered Catra a handshake which she took and smirked at Adora.

“Oh, so this is Adam Pritchett. I’m Catra, Adora’s work friend.” Adora rolled her eyes.

“You are insufferable, Adam.” Adora huffed, got herself some food and walked away to the table. Adam and Catra snickered at the reaction.

Catra sat down beside Adora, whose hair was now in a bun, showing those wonderful collarbones and sharp jaw. Good job, Marlena and Randor. Catra devoured her food and a little bit of the salad, which made Adora look at her disapprovingly but she just raised a single brow at the blonde. Suddenly, Catra heard a series of clinks and looked at the direction of the sound. Scorpia was raising her glass.

“I just wanted to say, congratulations to you, Glim and Bow. You make a beautiful couple, It’s an honor to work with you. I’m not good with toasts but I wish you the same thing that your mom wished me and Fuma: May the joys you share today be the beginning of a lifetime of great happiness and fulfillment. To the happy couple.” Everyone cheered and drank from their glass.

Adam came to their table and whispered something into Adora’s ears, which caused the woman to stand abruptly and fast-walk to another place.

“What was that?” Adam sat in Adora’s chair and looked at Catra with a smug grin.

“I just told her that Theadora Wells is here.” Catra had a gigantic question mark in her forehead. “She’s Adora’s first girlfriend ever, her and Glimmer are old schoolmates.” Oh. Catra didn’t have time to think when the DJ announced the couple’s first dance as husband and wife.

Everyone moved to the edges of the dancefloor as Glimmer and Bow stepped inside. They danced to ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ - REO Speedwagon.

After a while, the music was over and the DJ invited the guests to join them. Catra just stood back and watched as Scorpia with Perfuma, SeaHawk with a groaning Mermista, Angella with Micah and all of the couples slow danced to ‘The Ghost of You’ by MCR. Catra’s sure that was Glimmer’s choice. Once emo, always emo.

Catra decided to look for Adora, but she was already laughing with Teddy, standing by her side… Ugh. Catra wouldn’t admit that out loud but she was a little jealous. And who wouldn’t?

“Jelly much?” Adam magically appeared beside Catra, making her jump a little.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She refused to look him in the eye.

“Come on, it’s obvious, you like my sister.  I could sense by the way you look at her. Don’t worry about Teddy, they’re just dancing- Oh! Is that chocolate truffles?” He walked away to  get some candy or whatever. The song was over and Adora retrieved her seat at the table. Catra followed her.

Catra grabbed two champagne glasses and offered one to Adora. “Thanks, Catra.” She smiled and sipped the sparkling drink.

“So… You and Teddy, huh?” Adora blushed at that and her eyes widened.

“What? We just danced, that’s all.” She drank the whole thing.

“Just danced? She had her hands all over you, clearly she’s still in love with you.” She crossed her arms.

“No she’s not pfft…” She fake laughed “I mean, our breakup was rather messy…” She put her glass down. Catra got an idea.

Catra got up and stared at Adora. “Let me prove my point.” Adora looked confused. Catra rolled her eyes. “Dance with me, and we’ll see if she gets jealous.” Adora just looked at her with those big blue eyes and dark eyelashes.

“Alright.” She stood and Catra took her hands, “I don’t know how to dance really well. I stepped on Teddy’s feet several times.” Adora cringed at the memory.

“Just follow my lead.” They got to the dance floor and waltzed to ‘It’s Been a Long, Long Time’ by Harry James. Adora was nervous, it was clear to Catra, so she lifted her head up- that was ducked to look at their feet- to look at her eyes. “Just relax, don’t look at your feet.”

Okay, something about Catra being gentle and tender and wearing that suit   was doing things to Adora, she doesn’t even know why her heart was beating faster. Maybe because of their bodies being flushed together.

Then, she saw her living nightmare, dancing his way to them with some girl.

“Heeeey sis!” He smirked at their dancing, looking at Adora. Catra hesitantly teared her eyes from the girl in front of her to look at the man.

“What are you doing here?” He did an exaggerated gasp and faux-hurt expression at Adora’s words.

“Ouchie. I just came by to see my little, cutie, sweet baby sister.” He pinched her left cheek and Catra laughed.

“Okay, now, get off. I’m in the middle of something.” He raised his eyebrows.

“Middle of what, exactly?” His eyes darted between her and Catra’s face, suggestively.

“I’m trying to see if Teddy is still into me.” Catra’s heart sank at that. Of course, Teddy. How could she forget?

“Ah, I see. Jackpot then,” He cocked his head in Teddy’s direction, who was already looking at Adora. “See ya.” He waltzed back away.”

Silence. Pure silence, then, “Well, I guess it worked.” Catra let go of Adora.

“Yeah… Thanks, I guess…” Adora stepped back slowly and gave Catra a tight smile. Catra could see Teddy from her peripheral vision coming for Adora.

Later, Glimmer and Bow hopped in the car, going to the airport for their honeymoon but nothing could take Catra’s mind away from Adora. The way the room’s dim colorful lights did nothing but accentuate her beauty; The way she looked at Catra; Her delicate features, her perfect little nose, petit and slightly point upwards; her rosy pink lips; strong but also soft cheekbones. It was a scary feeling, that’s for sure.

Time to embrace some feelings. She dialed Scorpia's number.
