Work Text:
Sebastian knows he’s lucky to be rooming with Alec - their families are close, and Alec is a good guy, which is more than can be said about a lot of the Shadowhunters studying in their class at the academy. Alec is a Lightwood, and normally people attached to a name with such a prestigious legacy are… well, they’re kind of dicks, if Sebastian is being honest.
But not Alec. At least, not to him. Sebastian sees the way Alec is in class, always getting top marks and taking everything so seriously. He also sees the way Alec is with the other students their age - never mean, but distant and closed-off. It’s like Alec becomes a different person when it’s just the two of them: his edges soften and he seems so much more relaxed. More himself.
It’s nice, but sometimes Sebastian isn’t sure what to make of it. He knows what he wants it to be, what he wants it to mean, but he doesn’t dare ask. They’re too close and Alec means too much for Sebastian to risk ruining it by wanting too much.
It doesn’t stop Sebastian from loosening up around Alec, too. Maybe a little more than he should sometimes.
It’s after a particularly difficult round of trials that he and Alec slump back into their room, tired and frustrated. Alec mutters something self-deprecating and Sebastian impulsively grabs the pillow off of his bed and swings it over to hit Alec.
Alec tenses, obviously unsure how to react, and Sebastian’s immediately afraid he crossed a line. Then Alec silently takes a couple of steps back to his own bed, grabs his pillow, and retaliates.
At some point of the interaction Sebastian’s aware of the absurdity of having a pillow fight with Alec, but after the first few hits they’re both laughing, relaxed, and just having fun. Fun, something that so many Nephilim children seem to have forgotten how to do entirely.
Sebastian stops overthinking, he stops thinking entirely, to the point where he backs himself up too far, falling back onto the bed when the back of his knee catches the frame and buckles. Instinctively he reaches up, aiming to steady himself but only serving to pull Alec down with him.
No, not with him, but on top of him.
They both freeze now, with the soft huffs of Alec’s breath inches away from his face. Sebastian waits for Alec to pull back, or roll off him entirely… but he doesn’t. Alec hovers there, waiting. Thinking. Overthinking. Sebastian hopes that he’s reading this right, that Alec would’ve pulled away if he wasn’t at least considering the same thing Sebastian is, and lifts himself up to close the gap between them.
Sebastian makes the first move, but the moment Alec realizes what he’s doing he leans down to meet him. It’s a short kiss, soft and exploratory, and when Alec pulls up again Sebastian is pleased to see a smile on his face.
“I’ve wanted to do that for so long,” Sebastian admits.
“Me too,” Alec agrees. “I’d like to do it again…” he adds, the admission trailing off in question, making sure he isn’t the only one who wants this to be more than a once-and-done impulsive thing.
It’s a good thing Sebastian wants this to happen all the time. In fact, if it could never stop that’d be totally fine by him.
“As often as you want,” Sebastian replies, reaching his arms around Alec to pull him down again.
