Chapter Text
Amity knocked on the door to Luz's room.
"Come in!" came Luz's voice from the other side.
Amity opened the door and saw Luz sprawled out on her bedroll with a book and Hunter sitting in a corner with what looked like one of those human comic books in his hands(or graphic novels as Luz insisted they were called), they both looked up at her.
Hunter locked eyes with her immediately and sneered.
" Blight.."
Not one to be outdone, Amity made a show of sniffing the air before wrinkling her nose in disgust.
"Clawthorne Noceda Whispers.."
They both kept glaring at each other for a solid 10 seconds, daring the other to be the first to break off. Hunter was finally the first to crack, whipping his head back in laughter. Knowing she'd won their little contest, Amity allowed herself to join in the laughter.
"Are the two of you gonna repeat this every time you meet?" Luz questioned with a frown. "It's getting old!"
"No, it's not sis!" Hunter managed to wheeze out between his bouts of laughter.
Luz couldn't help but smile at that, it had been over a year since Hunter had joined the family but words like sister were still a rarity on his lips so she treasured each time that he let one slip.
After both teenagers had finally calmed down, Amity straightened herself before once more looking towards Hunter, this time there was no hostility to be found.
"I need to talk to your sister in private for a bit." Amity said after a few seconds of hesitation. "Hope I'm not intruding, your Nobi let me in." She added a second later, anxiously playing with the hem of her shirt.
Hunter shrugged, stood up and walked out the door, giving the pair a lazy wave and a knowing smile as he closed the door.
Luz sat up as the door closed, looking at her girlfriend quizzically before patting her bedroll, inviting the witch to sit down.
Amity hesitated for a brief moment before joining Luz on, what was in her opinion essentially the floor.
"Alright, what's bothering you Amity?" Luz asked while gesturing to Amity's hands that were still tugging on her shirt. "You only do that when you're nervous or upset."
The young witch let go of the fabric while staring down at her now trembling hands.
"Luz.." Amity began, seemingly unable to look her girlfriend in the eyes.
"Luz..I'm.." she tried again before she started to cry, her tears flowing freely down her cheeks in streams unlike anything Luz had seen from the witch before.
The human got up to close the short distance between her and her girlfriend, worry plastered on her face before Amity shook her head and held out an arm, keeping Luz away from her.
Amity was shaking as her tears kept flowing unhindered, her hands found their way to the hem of her shirt once more, tugging at it so hard that tears started to form in the fabric.
"Luz.. I'm.. I'm" Amity choked out between sobs. "I'm.. I'm trans Luz.." he finally managed to get out, his breathing slowing as he closed his eyes and squared his shoulders, expecting the worst.
The worst didn't happen,no angry shouts, no tears of disgust, nothing.
Instead he felt his girlfriend envelop him in the most gentle hug he'd ever shared with her, it took him a second before he managed to will his trembling arms to return the hug, squeezing his girlfriend as if his life depended on it.
"I'm so proud of you Amity." Luz said as she rested her head in the crook of his neck. "I remember the panic I felt coming out as bi to my mom." she added with a chuckle. "I guess it really doesn't matter how much you trust someone, it's always at least a little bit scary isn't it?"
Amity nodded slowly, as he voiced his fears aloud.
"I.. I wasn't sure you'd want me like this.. All broken and.."
"You're not broken!" Luz interrupted, tightening her hug as if to make a point.
"You're you! You're different, that doesn't make you broken! That makes you you and you're beautiful!"
She let go of the hug to look her boyfriend in the eyes before adding.
"Listen, one of my parents is non-binary and.."
She caught herself, that was Hunter's story to tell.
"And neither of you two are the first trans people I've met." she covered up her near slip up before adding with the widest smile she could muster. "I might screw up at times but I'll do my best, please correct me if I do."
Tears returned to Amity's face but this time, there was a large smile accompanying them as he launched himself at his girlfriend, wrapping her up in a hug so tight it almost hurt, but if it did, Luz didn't complain, she only hugged him back equally as tightly.
"I love you!" Amity managed to squeak out as his tears stained Luz's shirt.
"I love you too" Luz said as she placed a gentle kiss on his neck before nuzzling into the crook of his neck once more.
They stayed like that for a long time, the only sounds emanating from the pair being the soft sound of Amity crying and Luz whispering sweet nothings to her boyfriend.
After the sobs had died down, Luz carefully untangled herself from the hug, before lightly caressing Amity's chin with her hand.
"There's going to be stubble there soon." She said with a smile as she leaned in to plant a light kiss on his cheek. "Things will be different, things will change but we'll both adapt Amity, I'm here for you, always."
Amity looked down at his hands slowly flexing his fingers as he smiled.
'What did I ever do to deserve you Luz? You're so wonderful and-'
"Have you thought of a new name?" Luz said, interrupting his thoughts.
He shook his head, letting out a small laugh.
"No, it's.. It's hard, harder than I thought.. Nothing feels quite right."
Luz nodded.
"Well, if you want suggestions I'm here.. And so is Eda, and Raine and.."
Her eyes widened as she realised. "Oh right, you haven't told them yet, maybe you don't want to tell them yet.. If ever.. I'm sorry" she spoke faster and she felt her panic rise before she buried her face in her hands.
Amity chuckled before putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Actually Luz.. I'd like your help telling them, I want to tell them but.. It's scary. They're your family and.. Honestly I spend more time with them than I do with my own family.. They need to know."
Luz nodded and stood up before offering her hand to the witch, helping him up to his feet.
" Alright, let's do this handsome." she said as she led him by the hand out of her room and down the stairs to the living room.
When they arrived in the living room, all of Luz’s family on the witch side happened to be there, Raine and Hunter was sitting in the sofa, the elder witch teaching their son how to tune instruments while Eda sat in one of the smaller couches, reading a magazine with King in her lap.
The room fell silent and all eyes turned to the pair as Luz loudly and dramatically cleared her throat, she and Amity standing at the bottom of the stairs, fingers intertwined, Amity looking timidly at his feet while Luz looked at the group with a proud smile, gesturing to the group with her free hand.
"Everyone! I have an important announcement to make" she began before Hunter interrupted her.
"Please don't tell me you've somehow gotten her pregnant.."
She glared at him before Raine lightly slapped the back of his head.
"Shush" they whispered.
She cleared her throat again.
"Like I said, I have an important announcement! An introduction of sorts in fact." she said with a sweeping flourish of her free hand, gesturing towards Amity who was squeezing her hand as if his life depended on it as his free hand once more tore at the hem of his shirt, still being unable to look at the assembled group.
"This is Amity, my awesome boyfriend!" Luz cried out before planting a kiss on his cheek.
There was a silence so thick you could physically feel it in the room as Amity finally managed to look up at his girlfriend's family. An almost pleading look in his eyes as he searched the room for a hint of acceptance.
The first thing he saw aside from the looks of slack jawed surprise on everyone in the room was Raine standing up and making their way to the pair.
They put a hand on Amity's shoulder and gently lifted his face up with their free hand, making him meet their eye, so he could see the smile on their face.
"I know it's scary, Amity." they began. "But this is a safe place, we're all here for you and we're all so, so proud of you."
Amity felt tears threatening to escape once more and before he had a chance to respond, Hunter joined them, putting his hand on his free shoulder.
"Nobi is right dude, you're not alone, you've got all of us."
"Yeah! I might not know much about this stuff," Eda butted in, standing behind her son and partner with a smile. "But if anyone gives you any shit, let me know!" and Amity could swear that for just a moment, the fraction of a second, Eda’s eyes turned black and yellow.
Just as his tears were moments from breaking free again, Amity felt a tug at his pants, only to see King looking up at him.
"I don't get what's going on, but you make Luz happy, so I couldn't care less if you're her girlfriend, boyfriend or something else, as long as you're happy." the little demon concluded before hugging his leg.
"Is it okay if we hug you?" Raine asked as they felt Amity's shoulders starting to shake and as Amity nodded he felt himself being enveloped in the biggest hug he'd ever experienced as everyone in the room did their part to comfort him.
'I.. I could get used to this' he thought, as he struggled to return all the hugs, tears of happiness streaming down once more.
